Hello jUST RECENTLY My cd player stopped working. I have a six disc changer and when I turn the car on it shows disc three on the display ( I think it is stuck on disc three) the radio will work but I can't get anything else on the cd player to work. When I press the eject button it switches to am radio. I am hoping the cold (in minneapolis) is what is causing the stick. I have banged on the side of it with no results I really don't want to have to take it to the dealer. any suggestions fromn you friendly folk? Thanks Gritle

I guess the snow has just been waiting for a couple of years. Hasn't been like this for awhile. Kind of fun. THey should just tear the metrodome down now and save cost and time repairing it. TCF field would work in the meantime. 3 hrs from pine city to woodbury is long drive time and I agree people rarely drive like they actually live in MInnesota. Even rain slows p[eople down when it shouldn't be such a big deal. On to car questions. Is there a chance that something is just plugged or too cold from underbelly snow yesterday? Any thought on upshift control code? Also EGR easy enough to put in for a novice car repair fellow? any special tools needed. I did an alternator on my 98 legacy wagon a couple of years ago and think without the torque wrench I caused it to die early....

Man I tell ya, every winter I can more or less plan on mystery problems developing with the car. 2005 outback 2.5 liter Last year it was a vent blower Minneapolis got 7-12 inches of snow so I had to do a lot of getting unstuck, rocking and revving to get through nasty streets and snow banks left by the plows. This morning I get in the car and notice error 55 on the odometer display, check engine light is on and the cruise light is blinking. I checked and found that err 55 = ecr or egr, upshift control is the deal. The thing is I don't know what that means or requires fir attention and if so a cost. I am working at hospital right now and unable to call a shop. Thanks for any ideas.

road noise?

So the tires seem to have pretty even wear. I had them rotated within the last two regular oil changes. As I am paying more attention to this it seems that the noise is really only coming from the rear end and possibly the driver side only. Now I don't know much about cars except where the oil and gas goes and changing wiper bladed. Oh I did change my own airfilter recently too. Regardless I am starting to get concerned that I should not be driving it if the bearings are bad. What is the worst thing that could happen. Wheels sieze? What is a ball park of what tis could cost? Any suggestions on places that would be better to deal with this than others. i am in Minneapolis, mn. I bought the car used and am beginning to think this may be why she sold it. Anyway all you thoughts are greatly appreciated. -

Wheel Bearings!? That is a thought. Although I have had riders in the back seat mention they can feel vibrations as the car's speed increases. I wonder if a tires plus kind of place would shed light on it?? -
I drive a 2005subaru outback. I have yokohama avid TRZ ties on the car. It is really loud. Kind of reminds me of cards on a bike spokes. I can hear it get louder the faster I go. I bought the car used and think these are snow tires. I have no idea of how many miles on the tire except that the car has 95k miles on it. I bought the car 2 years ago. Is there any thing I can do to quiet it down? I think they are good tires so I kind of want to keep them or at least don't think I should get new. Would the tire pressure make enough of a difference in the noise?

One of the things I like least about -10 nights is what it seems to do to cars. The other super cold morning my blower was squeaking really high but not very loud then it changed to a whirring sound. I had hope it would thaw out but apparently there is something else wrong. Is the whirring sound something I could easily get fixed. I kind of fear any one taking the dash board off just to get to a small fan. Thoughts?

where other than a dealer would it be safe to get this problem addressed? I do now that it was a heating coil and some thing about the catlyst. He asked if it was front or back and if it was sohc or dohc. That's all I know I went to the dealer they said 99 dollars to diagnose and more to repair. I could go to another place I've taken less nice cars to and they alwasy get the work done. They said they could diagnose for about 25. Thoughts. If you are in minneapolis I like to go to rongos.

I have 78 k miles onm the car and the engine light just came on along with a flashing cruise control light. I've noticed that my MPG have fallen quite a bit. I am not sure if this is a sohc or dohc and worried about cost. Should I take it to the dealer, there is no factory warranty. I think the computer code said 02 sensor and heating coil or something like that. any thoughts?
