  1. So really How big of a deal is a blown head gasket $$$ wise. Also if that is the case am I able to move the vehicle and is it a sign of serious damage and death of my car?
  2. now when I start it it seems to kick and sputter. If it is the head gasket will I be able to drive for the next day or two?
  3. So I'm driving around town to pick up some packages and realize that there seems to be some oil burning. This haas been a minor problem for awhile due to a leak which drips on to the exhaust manifold, I usually don't think much of it. Then I noticed that my heat went out. The temp gauge is topped out and the smoke keeps coming. Soon i notice my oil flash a bit. It rarely if ever has done this. I stopped to put oil and and noticed that it seemed to be dripping out at a steady rate. i also added coolant since the reservoir seemed low. Now when i park my car as I get home I stalled it twice parallel parking and the second time I started it I had the most trouble getting it to turn I;ve ever had with this car. Thoughts... suggestions? Am I in big trouble. It is a manual transmission.
  4. So I had my clutch replaced about two weeks ago this friday. It woerks fine but I notice a sort of whirring or whistling sound. It is not always present and when it is if I press on the clutch just a bit the sound is gone. I've spoken with the guy who did and he said he could help but didn't seem to think it was a concern. Shuold I be worried about future complications with this?
  5. Yes it was some pretty bad spelling. I had it done by an independent fellow. I just realized that even a bit of pressure on the clutch pedal will cause the sound. I think I'll survive. thank for the tips. oh and my car didn't come with a manual. I drive a 98 legacy l seres wagon. no idea on the size of the tires.
  6. I had the clutch replaced on friday. My question regarding the speedometer tach ratio is whether or not I'm losing gas mileage. If I'm at 70mph is it right for the RPMS to be around 3k?
  7. I just had my clutch replaced and am curious of what a good ratio for the speedometer to the tachmometer should be. I wonder if I am losing MPG this way. Currently when I am at about 70 mph my rpms are about 3K. is that rights? Also there is a bit of a chirp or ringing sound coming from ny new clutch is that common?
  8. I think this thing works. what should i take a picture of? well I uess I'll take a couple. I'm not sure if I can link 'em though.
  9. Hmm? there is nothing in the middle like in that photo. I looked at the clutch pedal and it seems to engage a spring with some levers attached to a cable the goes through the fire wall I think.
  10. That the one. If you look back from the windshield fluid box to the yellow cap a bit to the left it is the brake fluid box. then to the right of that is the black assembly i think is the cylinder but I know it isn't. huh?
  11. that would be helpful as my car did not come with an owners manual. I kind of got shafted when I bought this as they didn't tell me it was prior salvaged. I took it in for alignment shortly after buying it and was informed the sub frame was cracked. long story
  12. a few more diagnostic questions....? If when I down shift the car clearly seizes might that be an indication of low clutch fluid? also what I've identified as the clutch cylinder does not appear to be a screw off cap. it has two or three hoses going into it. should that be the case? also I have not noticed any sort of smell. I can be in fifth gear at about 60 mph with a bit of acceleration and no changing gears I still get revving. <<just an observation.
  13. any thoughts on how long an aging clutch can last? is cold weather much of a factor? will my car ultimately not move? what is the outlook?
  14. I am not a woman just not a car buff. though if there were suggestions in the area I'd be happy to entertain them.
  15. so I just drove around the block. there seems to be a bit of freeplay. However at a stoplight I let the clutch out completely and the car slowly moved forward. still no luck finding the clutch cylinder. I'm beginning to see a worse case scenario here.
  16. where is the clutch cylinder? I just went to check. I have found the brake fluid reservoir. There is s small black cylinder between the brake fluid reservoir and the windshield washer fluid reservoir. however I don't know how to get it open. does the car have to be warm in order to accurately check it?
