Driving / Rally / Offroad Light Inspiration Needed
nkx replied to mikeshoup's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have a set of kc daylighters on my bumper. i drilled through the bottom of the bumper with a holesaw for access to the underside hardware and used a rectangular piece of aluminum for each light to act as a giant washer. keeps the lights very stable. -
i had one that sounded like a fire siren at its highest pitch... that got quite a few looks.

heh, maybe in YOUR wagon. ok your routing seems much better. stupid mapquest was telling me to drive through NYC (no thanks). dave and melis, would i be able to meet up with you and follow you if i decide i want to try to hack this trip? -
thanks folks, ill try the torch method on the spare first, and see if that works. ill try to make a 'pin wrench' if the torch doesnt do it.

would i be able to hack it in 3.5 hours without having to attract a lot of unwanted police attention? which route did you go? -
hey, you have an I badge and rallyarmor mudflaps too!

ok, i have a spare cam tower sitting around. i figured i would take it apart to see what i should replace when i do my timing belts. cant get the damn sprocket off though to inspect whats back there. any one know any fancy tricks to get those bolts out? im hoping it should be easier on the car with the timing belts still on.

yeah, newville like matt said. 3.5 compared to the 5 hours mapquest said makes me again question the reliability of mapquest. ill get satellite navigation one of these days... -

mapquest is telling me this is going to be a 5 hour trip, and thats not taking traffic into account. that being said, i dont think ill be coming up this time around. dont think id be much fun anyway, 5 hours of sleep makes me pretty crabby. have fun everyone! -
RX, GL-10, and GL's (i think) were available with turbos. there are turbo and 6 cyl xt's available also. some of the early legacy's were turbo too. you can run the piss out of the ea82s (1.8 motor found in the old school loyale/rx/xt) so you might want to look into that if your main need is reliablility or if you dont want to spend a lot of cash . i would think the turbo legacys would offer a tad bit more performace. legacys are also known to be quite reliable. part time 4wd can be found on the loyale series. fwd for good gas milage when youre not bogging through snow or mud. rx and gl-10 had fulltime 4wd (before it was called awd). later model manual rx's had dual range FT4wd. im not so familiar with legacy drivetrains. awd was available, but not 4wd (a button or a lever engages 4wd on the loyale series). hope i was of some help! happy hunting!

if i were you i would keep it topped off. make sure the radiator isnt clogged or anything. oh, and make sure you 'burp' the hoses when youre near done filling the radiator.
