  1. yeah, i found the supplimental rules page on susq scca.... most of my interior is in the landfill now, and what i have left isnt going back in!
  2. would you be able to use the stock starter with the gear from the ej?
  3. 4wd? get a new tranny? i need to hurry up and get my maintenance done so the buggy is in top shape, and get my 'pit crew' together. also need to find out what class ill be running in.
  4. i saw this on nasioc too... i need to register for it
  5. dont forget about the old beetles... not japanese, but it still sounds kinda like a subaru. i actually took the time last night to make a crankshaft with con rods out of paper and tape last night. (gee, bored much?) i labeled the cylinder positions, and then wrote out each of the 4 strokes for each cylinder so i could see how each phase of any given cylinder corresponded to another at any give time. now this isnt super scientific, but from the looks of my chart, there appears to be 540° (1.5 rotations) of crank rotation between each spark of the cylinders 3 times. then theres a dead spot. here, im seeing 1260° (3.5 rotations) until the next spark. 540°*3+1260°=2880° 2880°/360°=8 8 full rotations of the crank for a complete 4-stroke cycle for each cylinder. someone please tell me they follow this...
  6. well i did a google search and found this: http://www.drive.subaru.com/SubaruDrive-Sum02/Piston-Cranky.asp the pic towards the bottom shows the crank in pretty good detail. it looks like an I-4 crank, but more compact. i think im going to do a bit more searching, and maybe mock something up to see if i cant figure out why it sounds different... another pic:
  7. using a HID kit on a light assembly that wasnt designed for HID is a bad idea. they wont focus the light properly, so the light will scatter and blind oncoming traffic.
  8. i think will and jwx have screwed around with these things before... how does this fuel cut defender work?
  9. http://www.photobucket.com has free image hosting.
  10. WOW thats a lot of replies! ok, so what makes the internals so special? wouldnt the source be the crank, as everything else on the motor references its position to the crank? ack, i think im going to have to make a small model to try and figure out the positioning on the crank.
  11. ive seen it done quite a few times. i dont know how close the offsets are, but subarus dont vary a whole lot. my buddy just put some wrx stockers on his impreza brighton. looks nice with those wheels
  12. why does a subaru sound like a subaru? i know its a stupid question, but its been bugging me lately. is it something to do with the angles between each rod bearing on the crank? this graphic i found on the usrm2 makes me think theres 180 deg between TDC of each cylinder, so it shouldnt sound any different than an inline 4..?
  13. the automatics have a fuse that you insert? (iirc) to put it into FWD only mode.
  14. well first youd have to hack up the block to get it into a V shape, then get a new crank, etc... :-p
  15. the turbo light comes on when the system starts to make positive boost, meaning anything over 0" of vacuum.
  16. find a good book on turbocharging. a buddy permanently borrowed one i had called ... hell, i cant remember what its called its been so long, but its written by corky bell, iirc. shouldnt be too hard to find on amazon. turbo cars can be fickle sometimes compared to your typical carbed rustang, so knowing all the ins and outs alleviates a lot of stress and confusion.
  17. make sure you dont have any pre-turbo exhaust leaks as well. also check the plumbing & clamps between the compressor outlet and the TB.
  18. ill probably go just because i still have 2 free passes for carlisle productions to use up. might not be any subarus there but theres always cheap universal parts and tools at these swap meets.
  19. duplicolor makes a special wheel spray paint. theres even a short tutorial on their website on how to get good results. http://www.duplicolor.com/projects/howto_wheel.html
  20. i was going to say about the kumhos too, but everyone else has beaten me to it. however, if you read the reviews on tirerack, they say they arent very good in the snow, and they wear fast on pavement.
  21. well if you listen very carefully you can sometimes hear it in other cars. i guess it depends on the placement of the pump and how much sound insulation there is. im pretty sure when it comes on just before you crank the engine over, its just priming the system.
  22. my buddy had an 87 300zx that got T-boned. he bought the car back from the insurance co after they totalled it, iirc. then he had it put on some crazy frame stretching machine for like 6 hours that bent everything back into shape. got a new paintjob after that, and it was right as rain.
  23. i can hear mine clearly too. i would be more worried if i didnt hear it!
