  1. well, i havent quite nailed that down yet... :-\ ive been thinking i could cut the risers farther back on the hood where i plan to mount it, and flatten the hump to the level of the rest of it. i could also put something under where the scoop overhangs to smooth it out, ie: bondo, fiberglass, sheetmetal, or a combination of those.
  2. whats it made of? i would guess it would be rubber, silicon, or foam. how deep is it, and does it attach at the IC, or hood side?
  3. hey guys, i was just wondering if there was a rubber surround or something to appropriately guide incoming air from the hoodscoop to the intercooler. i bought an STi hoodscoop for my buggy, and im thinking if there is a surround, i might be able to make use of one to help the airflow to my conquest intercooler.
  4. are you gonna keep the 4WD plenum when you hook your hoses up, 88rx? i took that bracket/heatshield out. (mainly because i was in a rush and i crossthreadded the passenger side bolt and broke the head off... oops)
  5. ah nice work there dave.... how big is that cone? the one i have now is 6". oh and russ, i have an intercooler from a chrysler conquest, but i have yet to install it. i need to get some mounting brackets of some sort made, and some piping. ive got an STi hoodscoop sitting around thats gonna provide fresh air for my IC. off topic: why isnt my sig showing anymore?
  6. i thought of shortening the tract in the fender, and have it open closer to the middle of the fender... but would that be worth the work seeing as i dont use the stock airbox anymore? air wouldnt really be sucked through it unless i made something to couple that with a surround for the filter... :-\
  7. a buddy and i were arguing the other day about what would be the best way to get lots of air to the air filter. i already have a big K&N cone in there. i suggested a custom passenger side (and possibly a similar drivers side) light that would use a smaller actual light, and the rest of the space would let air go directly to the filter, or possibly through prefilter first. this would be a compromise between completely taking out the passenger headlight, and being able to see at night. a hoodscoop right above the air filter would work too, but it involves less direct airflow. now my buddy says the filter shouldnt be exposed to a direct source (I.E. my first idea). he wants to use the factory ducting in the fender as the only source for fresh air, in a setup like skip's. this seems restrictive to me, especially when i plan on cranking up the boost. i want as much air into the engine bay as i can get, be it to cool the motor, or consumption by the engine. does anyone have any insight to this? which method do you think would be best? keep in mind that i am trying to "rally" this car... thanks
  8. ill have to take a pic for you if i get under the hood of my buggy tomorrow...
  9. is there a certain spot thats well known to leak? i took the buggy through the carwash, and i got hosed.
  10. the clutch in my buggy is starting to go, so im going to need a new one. i searched and found this: im going to need something that will withstand abuse from "rally". what kind of clutch & pressure plate would be suitable? and where would i find them?
  11. an intercooler cools off the hot compressed air (pre-TB) coming from the turbo, and helps reduce detonation. higher octane fuel needs higher temps to combust, so if youre running high boost, high octane will not detonate nearly as soon as low octane fuel will. so in theory, you could run lower octane with an IC because the air temp isnt as high going into the combustion chambers. (but im still going to run 93 in my buggy when i get my IC, just so i can crank the boost even more ) feel free to correct me if im wrong!
  12. i think the legacy turbos are larger, so youll get more boost, but it will take longer to spool up. as far as the exhaust goes, backpressure in a turbo car is the devil. the less, the better.
  13. im going to try to make a point to stop in at least on saturday. if i do, ill bring the buggy, but im not going to enter it. like i said before, im local, so if anyone needs anything, shoot me a pm. i should be able to find it around here.
  14. i had a poor idle last summer, turns out, a vacuum line was disconnected. got it hooked back up, and everything worked out fine
  15. this info is all very good, but what the hell is a dash pot? ive heard the term a few times, but i have no idea what it is! im going to crank the boost up on my buggy, but i need a way to vent it before the TB so that i dont kill my turbo when i let off the gas under boost.
  16. i might be wrong, but AWD is computer controlled. my 89 gl-10 is fulltime 4wd, but even with the center diff locked, not ALL the wheels spin... then again, i did have the car lodged in the snow off to the side of a snowy mountain road...
  17. im disappointed! theres about as much mud as there is skin :eh:
  18. i picked up a plate similiar to those for my 89 GL-10 from auto zone for $15, and it bolts right up. another $5 for some plastic crinkly tube stuff, and $50 for a K&N filter.
  19. thanks, i didnt even think of using a false top! how big is that hole in the firewall? i might run some 10-gauge through there, plus other wires, so im thinking 3/4" is going to be a minimum dia. oh, and how would i get the trip computer out? its not really of use to me, the only things that work are the clock, the alarm, and the outside temp, but thats not very accurate.
  20. im hoping someone here would be able to tell me how to get the top of the passenger side dash off (without the use of a sawzall :-p ) i have a haynes manual, the diagram is confusing even to me even with a little engineering background. (the fact that the stupid picture for the ea82 is for a JDM car doesnt really help much either...) (pic http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/nkxv1/album?.dir=/My+Photo+Album) im going to put a 5" tach in front of the trip computer, and i might slap on a panel for some auxiliary switches, so i need to drill a few holes in there without drilling through the wirepack and whatnot that runs above that center vent cluster. ill also need to drill/find a hole through the firewall so that i can run wiring for the tach, lights, etc to the battery. any advice on placement for that? TIA, john
  21. maybe i will just to get a good parking spot, and maybe have a place to keep my booze
  22. i live about 15 mins from carlisle, so if anyone has any questions, gimme a shout. i wouldnt really see a point in entering my buggy, seeing as its a car show, and its not much to show off :-p
  23. i like that little light rack on the front bumper, i could use something like that...
