100 sets is 400 wheels! and would everyone buy a full size spare? -
old thread bump. do we know the length of the oem wheel studs??
-
did you check the hose from hell? runs from the thermostat to the bottom side of the intake manifold.
-
ask yourself what you want to do with the car. are you looking for performance? reliability? easy maintainence? a show piece?

Sealants, silicone etc for water pump etc
nkx replied to MTSuby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dont go too nuts with tightening the bolts for the oil and water pumps. use a thumb ratchet if you have one! -
ive always been a fan of relays and aux switches. is this a daily driver or a toy? you might make a switch panel if youre planning on adding other lights or accessories.

i bought a 2 core radiator from radiatorbarn.com for $135 shipped. works like a charm in my ea82t turbowagon. swap over your rad cap and the temp sensor (and 2 little rubber caps that went over some tubes that stuck out of the drivers side core) and youre ready to go. the only problem i encountered when installing it was the lower tube thingy on the DS core was pointed down, hitting the sheetmetal covering the bumper frame rails. i very gently bent it up. aside from that, its perfect!

for gauge illumination, your best bet is to tap into the wiring for the radio.

what do you use to steam clean a car? one of those gadgets that youd see on tv infomercials? -
how is that pulley holding up anyway?? i wouldnt mind a new pulley, seeing as i only use 1 belt now, and i want to get some weight off the crank.

Offroad Light Wiring (thru the roof)
nkx replied to LiftedHatchSubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you want a little extra security, use a small piece of wiring loom where the wires pass through the roof if you dont have a grommet in combination with the silicone. -

90 amp maxima alternator in a GL-10!!! WOOHOO it werks!
nkx replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is your alternator inboard or outboard? -
maybe theyre suggesting you dial it into the 0 mark to give you a starting point? then set it to what you want after that?

well, my wagon at least! i got my new waterpump and new timing belts installed today. im actually making progress on this thing! gotta put the crank pulley, front t-belt covers, alt, and bracket back on, install the new 2 core radiator, and figure out what fans i want to use. the stock unit is out, too small. im thinkin along the lines of impreza or early legacy dual electric fans. and a means of controlling the fans after that! yay accomplishment!

where should i put rtv? on both sides of the new wp gasket??
-
as long as the fender liner is intact, the inside shouldnt be any worse than the outside.
-
oh, and does anyone know the torque specs?? im thinking im going to have to guesstimate and use my finger ratchet so i dont overtighten.
-
alrighty, will try the longer bolts first. thanks guys!
-
the ones behind the bumper are the worst. you might be able to get them out with a 10mm ratchet wrench without having to take the bumper off.
-
bump, any more ideas?
-
maybe it just wasnt getting a good ground, and the bump knocked it into place. my experience has shown me that electronic things are masochists. the problem is usually nothin a slap or 2 cant fix.

i swapped out the cam seals, and apparently stripped the threads for the cam seal covers. what should i do? helicoil? tap new threads and put a bigger bolt in? stop being such a n00b? this is my first time doing any major work, and it was going ok, until now.... (hope i didnt ruin the threads for the oil pump bolts also :-\)
