  1. did you hook up the wire that tells the computer that it is cranking? on the ones i did i hooked that up to the small wire coming off of the starter. so basically when you crank your motor it sends 12v to the computer telling it you are trying to start it. also you might check your power going to your fuel pump relay. you might have something that has power while cranking but not while key on. also you can unplug you afm and it should still run, run like crap but run, it's another "poor mans" way of checking it. check if all your vent hoses are hooked up, you need all them hooked up or it will do what you say it's doing now. thats just a few things for you to check. there will always be little things to track down, but you are 90% there, just keep on plugging away at it.
  2. i might be able to give you a hand with the wiring if you are still looking for a hand. i have torn down 3 so far and all are still running.
  3. yeah ok i can see where that would sound a little jinkey. but if you want to get rid of those 2.5 heads and intake i have been looking for a set. and i even have a good set of 2.2 heads we can work something out with a trade.
  4. WTF? i didn't sell you any motor. my ordeal i talked about was in a car that i was selling. i sold it years ago. i was just saying it has been done. what the hell you talking about I burned you for $700?
  5. i can not confirm nor deniy that i might have put phase 2 ej25 heads on a ej22 block in a 2.5rs when i when i found out that about half the head bolts holes were jacked up. and i needed to sell the thing. i drug it out to an auction to get rid of it. but yes it can be done and really other then the power it was a sweet running motor. i used ej22 head gaskets and the combustion chamber on the head was smaller then the hole in the gasket so i went with it. so yes it's been done, no there is no power benefit to it, it was just way cheaper for me to do it this way. although guys have been swapping DOHC heads onto ej22ts for years.
  6. hit up pooparu, he just finished his power steering swap and i remember him running in to this. i don't really remember what he did to get around it, but he did and it all sorts of power steering sexy now.
  7. i'm not really sure when they are ending the press stage. but i think it's only going for an hour or so. if you can come volunteer please do. with out volunteers these rallys can't be put on.
  8. i do now, a recent purchase. i'm camping at the fairgrounds and will be there all weekend. if you are doing some volunteering come out friday when the press stage is going. the schedule says it gets going about 2pm.
  9. I know a million thanks can never be enough to the volunteers and originators that keep rallying it the NW going. Back when I was volunteering (in the way way back) I was always happy to receive my little baggy of goodies. If I was to just get a T Shirt for the weekend of help I was more then happy. For me a chance to walk thought the park exposes and get to see the cars close up was enough to get my grins going in over time. Being on the other side of things now I really can't ever say thank you enough to everyone that takes their time out of their life just to come sit in the woods and make sure we get to have fun safely. At Oregon Trail we gladly handed out hand fulls of candy to the workers and told each and everyone of them thank you for coming out and supporting us. Well until one of the old grumpys left with the whole bag. Who was that guy? Because really, with out you, we couldn't do this. So as something extra at Wild West I'm wanting to give something a shot and see if it works. With Wild West being the only place that offers a press stage to us "normals" I have taken my in car camera placed it facing the passenger seat and I want to offer you the in car video of your ride. No it may not be a very long trip and no you will never see the speeds that we see on stage, but I have to say if this was ever offered to me back in my volunteering days I would have jumped at the opportunity. So there, that is what I'm offering to any and all that can take a ride on the press stage. One small little disclaimer, my car is small, I would love to offer it to any and all that wanted to do this, but we have to face facts, maybe not everyone will fit in the car. But I'm always willing to let you see if you can. I am heading out early friday morning to make sure I can get there before the press stage gets going. So come find me and lets go for a ride.
  10. learn it, live it, love it 90-91 non turbo AT & MT: 4.111 91-94 turbo AT & MT: 3.90 92-94 non turbo ATs: 3.90 92-94 non turbo MTs: 4.111 but like ed said, it's always good to double check these things.
  11. you would have some crazy high compression, if i remember right the phase one pistons come past the deck of the block just barely, but more then the phase 2 does. so the CCs in the combustion chamber is smaller in the phase 2 heads. it's doable, but still the question is why, the DOHC heads aren't bad. not unless it's the thing of "I have all these parts laying around lets see if I can make an engine"
  12. hay now, i took the hub caps off, so it's much hotter now. but it's hard to ditch some damn near brand new tires. and the only reason i didn't swap to the larger outback brakes i have just waiting in my garage. i need 15s to clear the outback stuff, and what's on there are 14s.
  13. it's all pretty boring under the hood. an ej22 under the ej18 intake. which i'm really not a fan of. the porting from the the ej18 intake is much smaller then the porting on the ej22 heads. next thing i'm going to do it swap back to the ej22 intake and see if that makes things feel a little better. doubt it's going to make any large difference but i know it will flow better then it does right now.
  14. some may know and probably don't care that i picked up a 93 wagon several months ago with no fricken idea what the hell to do with it. as i putt around with a 1.8 and no power i kept on thinking to myself, this just isn't right. what a great little car but what a turd to drive. well a long weekend, a legacy as a donor, and some random part that i had laying around i put together the impreza subaru should have made (they did later). 94 ej22 94 legacy exhaust with fart can 03 RS 4.11 tranny RS clutch 04 STI suspension legacy rear disc brakes legacy larger bore master cylinder legacy turbo rear sway bar GL turbo clutch LSD it's still not a turbo rocket by any means, but it's a lot funner to drive and really that's all that matters.
  15. it depends what kind of friends you have
  16. boy i'm going to have to poke my head under all the legacys the next time i'm at the junk yard. i might believe autos because i don't own/mess with those but every 5 speed legacy i have owned has been 4.11s
  17. my 94 legacy would like to argue with you on that fact because it has 4.11s. it's wasn't until the second gen legacys that i have seen 3.90s honestly i have never seen a first gen legacy with anything other then 4.11s auto or manual.
  18. so true, someone didn't want them so much that they got towed away. i mean sure we all might have a car sitting somewhere that we might not think about much, but to have it sit some where for so long that someone complains and then it gets towed now that's sad
  19. http://www.sergeantstowing.com the wagon looks a little rough but the hardtop sure looks nice. it will be sad to see it go to a junk yard.
  20. not sure how hot they can be if they are probably one of the most common ratios out there. last one i bought i think i spent $30-40 with a set of axles. U pull it want's something like $100, over priced in my opinion. old lego trannys about $100 range. assuming it's not a POS with decent miles. drive line your about right.
  21. i'll jump in and answer that, we have no F ing clue yet. were going to put it all together and go from there.
  22. ej25 or ej22? my ej25 was from a 99 forester. but i have heard that later years changed the cam and crank triggering marks so it wouldn't be compatible with the older ECUs. but not really sure what year they did that in. as for the ej22 i think they were all the same (basically) till the end of them.
  23. stuff to think about also when swapping to the 2.2, (because i'm going to do that same thing here in a few weeks and i have been making mental notes of what i need to do) 1, the 1.8 throttle body has a smaller throttle plate then the 2.2, and 2 the 1.8 exhaust is ridiculously small. what i'm going to do is run the 2.2 intake with throttle body and put the intake wiring harness from the 1.8 on it and i have an exhaust from a legacy i'm going to put on also. not sure if the computer will be happy with the TPS and IAC from the 2.2 but we will see. and the ej25 just got a bad wrap from all the head gasket issues. i had that phase 2 ej25 in my rally car and beat the snot sh|t out it and it never had one issue. but i also planned ahead and redid the head gaskets with some quality stuff and did it right the first time so i didn't need to do it again. also on power, the ej25s were horribly choked from the factory, put a larger exhaust and some lumpy cams, and that motor was a little monster. my legacy was pretty close to stock wrx fast, that's not to bad for a "just a 165hp motor".
