  1. from what i remember you have to get a custom drive line. but the other part of the equation is the front axles. being a different length then the ea82 the use of turbo axles wouldn't work. there was someone that was talking about building axles using legacy iners and 2wd ea81 shaft and outers. not sure if that ever worked out. i did come up with one other way to deal with the front axles, take the front diff from a early fwd impreza and put it in the awd tranny. not the whole ring and pinion just the spider gears and housing, that would give you the 23 spines that you need to use the ea81 axles. not 100% if that would work, but it was something i was thinking about the other day as i was looking at my tranny. now to just find a fwd impreza tranny and see if my idea would work.
  2. and do something about that fart can sound, that thing was loud when you left.
  3. so i hit subaru and talked to them and they said really there is no difference between theirs and what you can find in the parts stores. i like guys like that, give you strait answers with no BS unlike some parts places.
  4. is there an additive that is supposed to be added to the older LSDs? is it something still available from subaru or would any kind of LSD oil work? also would running a synthetic oil mess with the LSD? you know with it more slippery maybe the clutches wouldn't grab as good.
  5. i know to each their own i always say. at least he's still playing with a subaru.
  6. yup it was the fwd imprezas that had the odd spline count (verses all the other ej trannys) you would also need to run a fwd impreza clutch it was different. other then that it sounds about right.
  7. he was the one i always go to but he was out when i called the other day.
  8. yes we are talking about male on the diff and female on the axles. sweet thanks
  9. like could i use a gl rear (assuming ratios were the same) in a legacy and reuse the legacy axles.
  10. you wouldn't happen to have the exploded view of with the part numbers with them would you?
  11. NICE!!!! i will have to see what my subaru dealership says about those part numbers. i'm sure it will confuse them.
  12. you should have the 2.2 so really it is that easy. undo bolt replace. on my 2.5 if i remember right it helps to pull the valve covers. worse case scenario would be pulling the valve cover, none of this pull timing cover and gear crap.
  13. the first one is exactly the car i was talking about that i rebuilt with new friction plates. i had an old toyota corolla gts, man i miss that car.
  14. well jason is out till next week so i called my local dealership. not that i don't think the girl tried but she said that the clutch discs are no longer available, they did at one point even have over sized ones but those are long gone too. i will still get a hold of jason next week and see what he says. but so far it's not looking good.
  15. i'm talking about the older ea82 style like Subarutex said. i'm going to get a hold of subaru and see what tell me
  16. cool i'll give him a call and get some part numbers if i can
  17. i remember i had an old 80s toyota that i was still able to go to toyota and get all new clutch plates, springs and anything else to fully rebuild the LSD. you could even order thicker ones for more grip. but can you do that with the subaru clutch LSD?
  18. the rears have pretty much been the same size from the first legacy to a 05 wrx. this was the most common size rear rotor ever. 90-99 Legacies/Outbacks with rear discs non-turbo 93-03 Imprezas with rear discs 04+ non-Sti Imprezas 06+ non WRX or STi imprezas Foresters with rear discs Bajas and i used to work at autozone, during down times i would cross reference subaru part (not even joking) the rotors were all the same but the pads were not. the pads were different because of different brackets/calipers. which seems odd that they would use so many different brackets/calipers combos but who am i to tell subaru how to do their work.
  19. if your legacy now has one piston calipers they wont fit. the brakes that were on your outback had to have 15" rim on it to clear the caliper which was a 2 piston. that's the bad news the good news is all you have to do is find the calipers and mounting brackets from 91-94 Legacy turbo 96-02 Legacy GT/Outback 00-04 Legacy non-GT 98-07 Impreza RS/TS/2.5i 98-02 Forester as they all have the same size rotors here is a great write up on brakes for subarus http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265631
  20. wagons rock, i'm just taking a water break from working on mine, sti suspension, legacy turbo rear sway bar, fart can . good score:headbang:
  21. i'm actually using the 4.44 housing and wanting to put the VLSD in it, so i shouldn't need to clearance for anything. it was originally there. it's kind of like doing a LSD swap for the old GLs, you just use the LSD and nothing else from the 3.7 diff
