as we all know us subaru owners have to give up something to have the wonderful awd and it seems to be the gas mileage. But I always wonder what other people get with their roos. So put what you got, tranny, miles, where you drive it and how. I'll start 1996 Legacy Outback 2.2, 5 speed, 211k, around town and like a grandma Best so far 24mpg

that's not true the trigger wheel worked when i swapped a sohc ej25 into my 90 legacy. here is the true answer because i did this swap, kind of. i put it in place of a 2.2 in a 90 legacy. but if you have stuck around long enough you should know that the 2.2 is a easy swap for the phase 1 ej25 so the same stuff holds true with the phase 1 ej25. if you could make the adapter that would take care of 99% of your stuff. take your crank sensor and cam sensor out of your old motor and put it in the new one. you may have to swap the coolant cross over tube depending on how many temp sensors you have. if you have only one in your forester then you will be fine and don't have to swap it. then maybe the oil pressure sensor, but i got to think they would be the same. but you could swap it just to be on the safe side. aparently in later year phase 2 ej25s they did change the cam triggers and wont work. i got my motor from a 99 forester and didn't have to change anything. i just swapped the cam and crank sensors from my 2.2 and it worked great. it's doable and pretty easy. check out my write up on my swap http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83839

stage 3 clutch for a GL. that's what albie from AA is running behind his monster wrx powered touring wagon. he says he can't get it to slip. but starting off slow it a pain he says he sometimes puts it in 4 lo just to get rolling then puts it back in 2 hi to drive. but he has also gone through 3 trannys and like 4 or 5 rear ends, so don't expect them to live very long.

ok here is a crappy drawing of what i am looking for. i am going to make a surge tank and am trying to figure out the piping to come out of it. short of just welding some tubing on to it i was looking to have some nice fittings that would seal up nice. so does this exist or am i just making up new parts in my head? also what are some other options to do the basic idea this picture shows. i can weld some tubing on but want to do that as a last effort thing. also maybe welding on a nut then a use some sort of screw in fitting could be a possibility

1992 legacy bogging out
mellow65 replied to zoltan16866's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
just to let you know as i have found many times subarus are really picky about plug wires. i used to buy what was cheapest ones and found that if you didn't put a set of NGKs they would bog. this has happened to me many times and different subarus. the fuel filter is the next good place to go. maybe cleaning the air flow sensor would be a go thing to do. one thing at a time, but even with the bog you can still drive it. and a running subaru for $500 is pretty good. good luck -
ok i hear a few different words, hub, spindle or knuckle. ok so straiten me out here if i'm wrong. i think of a knuckle as the the metal chunk that the bearings would go in and the hub the part that actually turns and the axle goes through it. and then a spindle as something you would find on the front wheels of a rear wheel drive car. just has the rod that sticks out and you put your bearings over it and then your brakes. so help me out, this came up today and i just need others knowledge

just ordered mine. only 4 left and one on ebay http://www.amazon.com/Wheel-Drive-High-Performance-Handbook/dp/0879384190

OMG I now want to rally a coupe or sedan. at least then i could do a rx6 hub swap and get real brakes. then it would be suspension i would have to figure out. but at least the fronts i think would be able to be like impreza/legacy stuff. oh man the wheels are turning in my head now.

yeah but to a guy that can drop major scratch for a STI then have the money to make mega power 1000 bucks would be a drop in the bucket. it just shocks us because thats more then we pay for most our cars.
-
amen for that, not many guys would trade beer money and some stickers to be ran on my car for a regrind. A+++++ for Jon and the work he does!!!!!! Wish there was more businesses out there like that, well at least more in the subaru world.

i think they are lighter there for giving you less weight to be moving around.

well they are in and it is running. nothing like a subaru in a garage with open headers to rattle your brain in the morning. tomorrow i build my exhaust and give my butt dyno results. and i really hope someone takes Jon up on this offer, i really want to know what kind of power this really gives. have you thought of offering this over on rs25.com lot more SOHC 2.5s over there. -
pooparus stickers are top notch i have them all over my rally car. he's the only sticker guy i use now. he has sort of become an unofficial sponsor

i got a buddy like that, we talked him into getting a old gl wagon and he just didn't get the upkeep that was required to keep them going. needless to say he sold it and got a honda.
