sad day when any subaru has to be put down for parts. but i have said once and i will say it again, i love living out west. just for the lack of rust alone.
-
you know if you could figure out any kind of rally type suspension and brakes that don't suck I would love to rally a GL/loyale or older GL hatchback. swap a ej22 or ej25 do an awd swap and have a rocket. it would be the brakes i would be afraid of, those things are so tiny. but here is one pooparu taunts me with, you bastard
-
lowered then 8.2:1 any lower and it wouldn't run. when a na 2.5 has 10:1 side by side with no boost running to it a na 2.5 would have more power. it's the 14 pounds of boost that gives you 300 horse power.
-
of course it can be done the question is still why run a sti motor with no turbo with the lower compression you would be probably running less power then a na 2.5 but still any swaps are cool, i say if you're going to have the sti motor put the whole thing in turbo and all.

it's not wrong, nothing sounds cooler in my mind then a uncorked boxer revving up but in the real world a little lower rpms might give us some better gas mileage. maybe around 2500 at about 65 that i think would be a nice compromise. i don't need to be spinning 3500 with a 2.5 doing like 80, it's just to much. that motor has some good grunt to it. same with the 2.2 a little lower would be better, but what you going to do.

bolt in yes, but extra work defiantly. the 6 speed from the stis are about the only 6 speed options out there. but because it's a 6 speed doesn't mean you get an even higher gear then your 5th, the gears are just geared closer together to keep rpms up between shifts. you get a little higher gearing but not worth it in my opinion. about the best freeway geared tranny that i can find would be the 3.9 geared one from a 2.2 impreza. but if your legacy came with 4.11 as most did you would need to change your rear end to a 3.9 also. wait now that i reread my tranny chart, do you have an outback or just regular legacy? if you have the non outback one then you do have the same basic tranny from the impreza. .780 5th gear with 3.9 final ratio same as the 2.2 imprezas. and that's about as good as it gets. other ways of lowering rpms is to use bigger tires, you speedo will read the same but you would be traveling faster then before.

i really like my 04 sti stuff, big inverted struts and pretty stiff springs. and i have gotten now two sets for $200-250 each. i'm real happy with them. only thing i wouldn't be sure about is the upper rear strut mount and what bolt pattern they used. the older legacys used a symmetrical triangle design where as in 2002 the imprezas one of the bolt holes got moved out. but either way is easy, if it's the early one, use 90-91 rear upper strut mounts, if it's the later one, just use the uppers from a sti. the reason you have to use the 90-91 was because the sti springs taper at the top like the 90 and 91s did.

Free Delta Camshafts ???? No Way ! !

my lack of wanting to spend that much time in a race seat to drive up to tacoma and back twice made this not work for me. but John was a champ and gave me a great deal on some reground cams. I had to make a donation to the rally cross beer fund in exchange I am going to run some delta cam stickers on my car. i should have them back in this weekend and have my new exhaust done this weekend also so we will see what the butt dyno tells me. so i assume this offer still stands for the cam shafts. also were the stickers that you sent the ones you wanted me to run or were you going to send me some different ones. either way works for me. -
ok i know it was in the circle. there is a block that looks like it was demolished, lets just hope it wasn't there.

man there is a peugeot shop out in north portland right kind of off hwy 30 heading west. for the life of me i can't remember how i found him before but i could find it if i was driving out that way. if i make it out into that end of the world before you figure out your problem i will swing by and get the name.

i use photo shop, but most image software have some sort of resize feature. also if you use photo bucket (an online image storage place) rather then using USMB to store your pictures, they have an option to resize when you upload your pictures. good luck:)

about your pictures, there is the little button right above the text box that has a mountain and the sun on it. click that it should bring up a screen that has you put a web address. insert where the picture is located, in this case it was http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/P10100301.JPG and presto, you have an image in your post. although you may want to shrink them a little. us small screened guys hate scrolling to the right to see the rest of it. 640x480 seems to be a good forum size.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that i don't have the rs tranny came with the motor i got the legacy one i took out had no issues should have just left it in there.
-
but who wants a turbo tranny behind NA power. not worth it. and all subaru trannys are made of glass, they last as long as you want to shift nicely. the 1st and 2nd go bye bye when you try to do crazy launches on pavement. i'm using mine for rally, much more give. but i still don't do any hard launches, i like my clutches and trannys to much to do that.
-
kind of figured it out today while over at pooparus place. you would just need to use ea82 turbo axles. they are same length as the ea81 fronts but share the same 25 spline as the legacy/impreza trannys. so not unless the front hubs are a different spline they should work. and you can run cable on any NA tranny. i have a 03 rs tranny in my 90 legacy it's all about the clutch fork. i just reused the 90 one and it worked fine. and we will see what a older legacy tranny will hold to more power, i think i F-ed up the rs tranny at the doo wop rally so I'm going to put my old tranny back in and see how she holds up to the 2.5rs motor.

you need to stop twisting and taping your wires, that's what's wrong. ok now i'll let the real people that know what they are talking about answer

so with your kit we wouldn't need anything else but rotors and calipers from what ever we decide to take brakes from? oh man that's spendy but i think for what you are getting that might be worth it. -

i'll take this to the pm -
behind a ej22, it would be a small little awd go cart. not looking to do a lift, just a bigger motor and then awd i think it would be a fun little car. DR are cool, but frying your front tires when you try and take off would get old real quick.

so i do i have to have them do it or can i do it myself? obviously they do the dyno pulls, but the cam swap i could do myself in a day. -
Question: can you lift it with AC..
mellow65 replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not mine so i can't tell you that. that's where you would need a longer belt. it's still in the same alignment as before just farther away. it might just take a little time at the parts store to find the right length belt. -

so let me get this strait, i have to have PIA to do the swap? If I remember right you quoted me like $200 to regrind my cams. Why would i pay $750 for something you sell normally for much less? I have a stock phase 2 ej25 in my 90 legacy rally car and might be willing to help you out. I just don't have other people work on my stuff so if it's a mandatory to have PIA do the swap then I think you are going to find it kind of hard to find people to do this.
