Who does this lifted red wagon belong to? (I want to copy it!)

and for those that can't make it to the rally, listen live http://www.oregontrailrally.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=42&Itemid=18

Bill all sassing aside, our bell housings can wait, you need to be by your lady, any woman that can put up with you for 41 years it beyond a keeper in my book. take care of that lady, and make it back out to the garage when you can, our thoughts are with you.
-
it did get eerily quiet all of the sudden. *cricket sounds* well i got mine, that's all i care about lol
-
i think you got that backwards, its thrown away, not got away
-
fair enough, carry on. i am for the most part moved, just finishing packing the last bits and moving it into the "garage". mom was wondering how that low life, bottom feeder, sorry sack of dog sh*t was doing, clearly she must had been talking about you.

Hey Bill one question I had I came up with the other day. Why did you leave such a big opening in the bottom of the bell housing? subarus have a small inspection cover that bolts onto the motor that will cover some, but still left a big gap to either try and cover with something else or just leave open. personally i'm going to try and extend the inspection cover to cover a good chunk of the hole. but just a thought. and i wish i would have taken a picture to really show you what i was talking about. but you can see the big difference between the 2 when you look at the pictures

got it from Tom himself. after they wadded it up and parted it out i bought it from him, figured it would be a cool piece for the wall and help a couple nice guys out in the process of building the new car.
-
i'm sure he would pay you back. just think of it as an investment into getting what you want. if i had the money i would loan it to him to get these going. then not only could you guys thank me for finding bill and pestering him relentlessly until he thought a subaru bell housing was cool, then you could thank me for getting them out to you all faster. on a side note, i know money talks and BS walks, but i count a good dozen or so people, not just from here, that wants one. i kind of have been spreading it around in the subaru world. but the guy has a million and one people pulling him in a billion and one different directions. i know he's pretty focused on his 4g63 to t5 beauty right now. he didn't think it was going to be a popular as it has been. but he wont forget us, he's good like that.

oh he's not waiting on me, he's waiting on $$$ from his other bell housings. he said it's going to run about $2000 to run off 10 castings. so i'm sure if someone wanted to front him the money you would work your way to the top of the list. i give it a thumbs up, he's done more testing with it in his garage then i will be able to do in mine anytime soon. i don't doubt bill in sending me something that works perfect. this isn't like his first bell housing he's made. also i just say go with the R150. that way he wouldn't have to re-reinvent the wheel with this thing. the R150 and the W5x share the same input shaft length so all he would need to do is drill the tranny side to mate to the R150 rather then trying to figure something new out. also the R150 will hold a good god load of power, they were the dads of the R154s. and if you are shooing for 400rwh and i don't know if you are putting it in a subaru, you are going to scatter a many many rear diffs before that tranny will fail.
-
nah keep it, a gift from me to you i have people that owe me way to much money and sit on a stock pile of subaru parts. it is kind of nice to go "shopping" through their stuff sometimes.

ok bill i finally got a chance to dink around with it today. i had to be damn nit picky to really find anything that could be fiddled with. first i found when putting it together was the lower drivers side stud, when i put the nut on it i found there wasn't enough room for a socket to get in there. i mean i was still able to get it on, but still, i'm just whining. next thing should never really be an issue, but worth mentioning. the out side diameter of the bell housing is just a little bit larger then the engine side. i wouldn't have even noticed it if i didn't still have the factory lift loop on the motor i would have never noticed. once again, don't think this would end the world, but i'm just blabbing about what i find. other then those 2 things, i'm not seeing anything else popping up. i don't have a flywheel or pressure plate yet, but you did a bunch of playing with those so i'm going to just figure they are good. but she does what bill claimed she does. now to just stab that bad boy in.

Has anyone used an EJ series engine with a RWD trans?
mellow65 replied to hankosolder2's topic in Subaru Transplants
i'm dragging this one way out of the depths of USMB because i always see it at the bottom of my thread. yes, there is now an option http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111709 -
who's looking for sympathy, you asked where i was, i told you. now if my wife left me, my dog died and my truck was stolen and all were caused by my best friend, well then maybe i would ask for a little sympathy.

yeah you want to know where mellow is, he's buried under a crap load of homework because all the teachers at my school are about to go on strike so they are trying to cram as much info into us before we end up with new part time (knowing nothing) teachers. he's also working he's also trying to get things in order to move at the end of this month needless to say a little overwhelmed right now. i'm still planning on grabbing a day or two here soon and mess around with this and see if i find any thing weird about it. from what i can tell with all the messing around in your shop you did about as much testing as i'm going to get to do with it. running and driving is still a ways away for me, but i'll still report back my playing around. i haven't forgotten anyone.
-
Well it does at least half of what he said it would do. Now we'll see about the other half tomorrow.
-
i got all my bolts, well most of them, i have a motor sitting on a stand, the 2 should meet for the first time this weekend. then give me the better part of a day and i should have it mounted in the car i'm putting it in. running and driving, yeah, that's going to be a little bit longer. But I should be able to find any major hiccups with it if it has any. I'll make sure to take pics as i go along. I'll also share my idea for a remote shifter, not that bills isn't awesome, but i'm not sure if it would work for me. I also have a subaru tranny and dead motor core sitting around and i'll do some side by side shots. even though i'm in the middle of packing to move at the end of the month i wont leave you hanging.

*cough cough, clears throat* MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA :grin::grin::grin:

dude what are you talking about, yes they are torque to yield, anytime in the directions you take a bolt to certain torque and then it has you turn it a full 180 degrees past that, that is you stretching the bolts. that being said i have reused head bolts, it's do able, and maybe it wont ever give you a problem, but maybe it will. but just stick with OEM head gaskets, and maybe if you feel like it bolts. Shouldn't run you more then $250 ish from the dealer ship. 2nd to that, but 1st in my book, set of ARP head studs and cometic head gaskets. When I did my last motor and this combo cost just a little less then the factory stuff. I ran that in my rally car and beat the snot out of it, never had an issue ever. And it's still plugging away.
-
i had to reread this like 5 times to figure out what you were talking about. the pitch stop is what you're talking about. you are correct, about it purpose, it also was there on the AWD stuff too because the motor would still do the same thing even with also sending power to the rear.
-
don't know how i missed this question. yes they are. as far as i ever found all the EJ cable clutch brackets were the same. i have the bracket on the tranny in the pic of the side by side.
-
how about this. i remembered seeing a pic with a T on it, so i counted, made some marks, and took a guess. it's not exact, but it's in the ball park. front of bell housing to trans shifter: 17" front of bell housing to transfer case shifter: 22.75" those are big ishes.
-
here's a side by side of a w58 and a subaru tranny with the input shafts lined up as good as i could do it. i'm going to assume that the 4x4 and the 2wds tranny shifter is at about the same location. or if bill would maybe throw a tape measure on the trans with the bell housing for a "from the back of the motor to shifter" measurement.
-
pretty much what he is building there is a way of relocating the shifter point on a 2wd, which should work with a 4x4 tranny, but wont take care of the transfer case. there will be some work needed to be done on the side of the installer. if Bill was to give us 100% bolt in everything this thing probably would cost 10 times as much and the guy would never have a life because there would be so many different combos to figure out.
-
oh one last thing, and totally thinking ahead here, do you know the size of the bolts needed for the bell housing to tranny. My tranny i bought didn't have any and i wasn't sure if maybe you make your flange thicker or something. thanks
