  1. Looks good, let me know when you want to head over the hill and do mine
  2. Did they actually see a leak? Or did they see evidence of a previous leak that wasn't cleaned up. If they just saw oil clinging to the crossmember and sterring rack, they could assume that the VC's are leaking since that is a common occurance.
  3. ... and appears to be floating?!?!?!?!?!??!
  4. On my 97 Legacy, I got more than average life out of it. It started to bind occasionally at about 250k miles. I put the fuse in and kept driving it. At about 260k it started binding with the fuse in place, so I pulled the rear section of the driveshaft. At 265k the engine decided to sieze a crank bearing, while I had the engine out, I swapped in a 4eat that used to live in the SVX racer. What did I do to get such great service out of the trans? Not a damn thing... I bought the car in 1999 with 40k miles, from the time I bought the car to the time I pulled the trans out, it had the same ATF. I learned to autocross in that car, and while daily driving it saw redline shifts everyday. I took it off roading in the Pine Barrens in NJ and crossed through water over the bumper. I high centered it in the soft sand to the point that you could have changed all 4 wheels. When I did drain it prior to removal, the ATF looked like used motor oil and smelled very burnt. But somehow she kept running fine and shifted almost as good at the end as she did when I first bought her...
  5. Unless you want to modify your transmission, you'll need to leave in the front half of the driveshaft, the section from the trans to the carrier bearing. There are 4 bolts at each end of the back half of the drive shaft. Remove the rear diff and axles and replace them with stub axles from a FWD Leg or Imp (less rotating weight than an empty CV cup) Weight savings; Diff - 60lbs Axles - 24lbs 1/2 driveshaft- 12lbs stub axles - add 3lbs TOTAL - 93lbs If you take apart the trans and convert it to FWD; Previous - 93lbs 1/2 driveshaft - 16lbs Transfer drum/tailshaft - 8lbs TOTAL - 117lbs
  6. I had this same problem on my 97 Leg Sedan. Just a word of warning if you're gonna get a used one from a board member or junkyard. There are two different styles of filler neck. I'm not sure what body, trim or year uses different ones. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=882 The first 6 photos in this folder are what I have, the last photo is the one I got from the junkyard that I couldn't use.
  7. Subaru's hold a lot of oil in the heads, it's best to let it sit after running for 5-10 minutes before you check the level.
  8. Are you pulling the engine or the trans? For the engine, the starter can stay in place. To pull the trans, you need to remove the starter.
  9. What weather report are you watching??? I just checked and tomorrow is;
  10. If anyone is looking at a car or other large shipment that they would like to get from the Atlanta or Charlotte area to Carlisle, let me know. A guy on another board I visit is bringing up an empty trailer to take a car back with him, for some gas $$ he's willing to bring stuff this way.
  11. I'm not sure which car I'm bringing, I'm not even sure which car I registered with??? Having to work on Sat and Sun morning, I won't be AXing, so I'll leave it up to Ben if he wants to bring the racer. My preperation for the meet will most likely involve picking the car with the most gas and washing it
  12. Registered I'm gonna be working that weekend, luckily my Saturday job is only about 10 miles away.
  13. Sounds like fun... I think we still have the Hoosier Dirt Stockers. I'll bring them along for your Silver :-p
  14. Yeah, I've done it on a few Leg's and SVX's. You'll need to get the exhaust out of the way, or it may not allow the axle to drop far enough to get clear. I suggest "popping" the stubs out of the diff while the diff is still solidly attached. Trying to get that initial "pop" when the diff is hanging in the air can be a real PITA. You can also get the rear axle out by disconnecting it from the strut and leaving the lateral bolt in place.
  15. You may want to send a PM to Shawn. I'm not sure if any of the Carlisle goers that check this thread have anything other than stealing it from up there^^^^.
  16. ssshhhh.... he might hear you..... <future conversation> Ben- Dave... Why is there mud and sand EVERYWHERE in the truck?? Dave- Well Tom's shop is only a few miles from the beach... I guess it was windy???:cool: </future>
  17. I was up in that tower on my last trip to the Barrens. It is a pretty cool view, I had never realized how flaaaaaat South Jersey is... Weekends for the rest of the month are out for me due to preparations for the SVX meet. May and June, I hope to be working every weekend during spring graduation season. So I'm pretty much out for anything you guys are going to line up this spring/early summer. I will be through that area the middle of the coming week, but I'll be in a 2wd truck towing a trailer with the SVX racer... Neither are really ideal PB vehicles :-\
  18. A couple days late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE PAUL!!!!
  19. I'll get signed up soon, not sure what I'll bring. I'm guessing Melis will want to take Peej. If Ben want's to take his red SVX, maybe I'll take the racer???
  20. 94loyale is right about the EA81's down in New Ringgold... Probably 4-5?? Including a Brat... 94, what color is your car? I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm usually in the white SVX or Blue 97 Legacy, the Brat is rusty and not on the road much Wave and honk if you see me...
