  1. This got put on hold when the engine died. I needed a working car and swapped the engine and trans in two days. I had the 4EAT that we pulled out of the racer, and needed the car on the road... If I keep the car, I still plan on swapping it. But as of right now I'm looking for a cheap 5-spd wagon for me, and the auto sedan can go to Melis's daughter. As for hyd/cable it was going to depend entirely on what I found at the yard.
  2. I'd go with the rebuild with a 90 day warranty. If there is any defect or problem with it already it will show up in the first 90 days. After that it should be good for another 100k.
  3. Get ahold of Tom Krynock through his website http://www.svxfiles.com As his website suggests, he works mostly on SVX's (he's a genious with them) but he sometimes does work on other Subaru's also. I'm not sure how far he is from where you are, but I think he's within an hour or so of Pittsburgh.
  4. Last night I had a dream that while driving the 3-door coupe, I found a knob on the dash that allowed me to adjust the camber while I was driving. I could keep the tires straight up for take off and braking traction, then crank the knob to grip through the turns. It was incredible, that coupe on stock tires was handling better than the SVX Racer on 12" wide tires. Unfortunately I woke up before I was able to get out of the car and find out how it worked
  5. I ordered about $70 worth of parts for the Brat, Legacy and SVX :D
  6. From what I've heard, some 98's have the earlier trans and some have the newer that would be a direct swap for your 99. The easy way to identify is that the newer ones have an external screw on oil filter. An older trans may bolt up, but the wiring and TCU are also different.
  7. You can get them on EBay also, search "subaru camber bolt". They're not too bad, but you need to hold the bolt and the tab in the proper position while you tighten up the nut. The nut is crimped so that it doesn't come loose, but that means that you can't turn it on by hand, you need to wrench it the whole way. Also the Subie stock bolts are all 19mm heads, these are different sizes, so a two tool job becomes a 4-6 tool job. Minor things, but still a PITA.
  8. You can use camber bolts in place of the rear strut bolts. Summit Racing IEC-I-81260 Generally you use one bolt on each corner. They're a pain in the rump roast to use, but they are effective. Just make sure you crank them tight. For even more adjustment you can use two on each corner. Ideally if one of the control arms is bent causing the problem, it would be a good idea to replace that.
  9. Aren't you usually up at 5:00 anyway?? :D Later is fine, I just don't want to get there 90 minutes before closing like one of the last times...
  10. Yeah, the one's I've worked on have been out of the car. So that did make it easier to access. But I've never seen then that tight
  11. I've removed a couple and have always been able to use a screwdriver as a lever to get it started. If it's tough, use two, one at either end.
  12. Stay away from the smallcar kit. I have heard more bad than good about their 5-spd kits. TomsSVX puts together a kit that will eliminate any of the fabwork for the pedal assembly, linkage or the crossmember. It is what we used to put a 5-speed in the Racer. If you can do the fabwork yourself, you can follow Huck's instructions to do the swap for under $1000 depending on the trans you can find. For more details, definately go to http://www.Subaru-svx.net
  13. There's an oil seal around the front input shaft of the trans. I learned the hard way to always replace that seal when you have access
  14. Last time I was there, I don't remember seeing any ea81's. Ea82's are still plentiful. Gen 1 Legs are becomming commen and Gen 2's are starting to show up more often. John, there are at least 4 ea81's of various flavors down at New Ringold. If you've never been there it's probably about 30 minutes south of Harry's.
  15. Harry's is in West Hazleton, PA 18202 http://www.wegotused.com/index.htm
  16. One of the guys on the Grassroots Motorsports board with access to a number of different wrenches did some testing. He found that the Craftsmen repeatedly came up at the bottom for their accuracy. On top was Snap-On, but surprisingly, just below them was HF.
  17. +1 I just had this problem on the SVX. The passenger/front was leaking through a loose clamp, rather than replacing the clamp when I saw it, I put it off and had to replace the shaft a month later
  18. Even better when you know the situation.... Jeff is holding a GALLON of lighter fluid and standing five feet from a campfire :Flame::lol:
  19. Don't worry about the fumes... usually you would have to pay a lot more for that kind of "high" Plus, it kept Melis from smoking for about an hour.... Come on man... It's a Hatch... and we're Soob nuts>
  20. Yeah, it was nice of the County Courthouse to give me a recipe to make it. I've been out of a job, and I have some extra room in my basement and I got A's in highschool Chem Lab:cool: That pic^^^ was taken by Melis on the way to the courthouse with Connie in tow.
  21. hehehe.... We were on our way down to the group photo by the dam. I was running hard and Aus was keeping up. Right before the campground entrance a bike dumped, it was over in the grass, but one of his friends was standing out on the road waving to slow us down. I slowed down, the problem is the biker's friend was standing right by the crash, rather than up the road a bit. With that turn and the way that the "friend" was standing right next to the crash, Aus didn't have as much of a notice as I did. I hear screeching and quickly look up to see tire smoke and Aus's eyes in my mirror . I wasn't quite stopped yet, instinctively I got off the brake... I lost sight of his bumper, he says he got as close as 6"....
  22. Here are the others that were taken before the battery died.... Link for PICS
