Good to meet you to. Don't worry about adding an hour to the trip, we got to check out your Hatch We did have an incident for the first hour or so after we left there, with the windows open it would suck the fumes up from the trunk and turning the SVX into a "huffing bag" . I was able to seal all of the openings with some duct-tape and we were able to make it the rest of the way without dieing See you at one of the next meets....

I got home about an hour ago, Melis just called safely from home. The Newly-weds should be home in an hour or two.... Had a great time as always. My "Princess" with 2 hours and about 30 miles on a newly removed/replaced HG/returned engine did GREAT. A couple small issues with leaking gas and a bad coil on the way down....... It was great seeing old friends, and meeting a few new faces. Now to get the quotes started before they get forgotten... Thanks to all that helped make the meet possibal.

Thanks to Ed, I got the Head gaskets changed in Princess's engine today. I just finished up, reinstalling everything that mounts to the block and heads. Tomorrow morning, I'll be dropping the lump back into Princess and then after a proper warm up, beat the snot out of her to see if she's worthy to make the trip to Fontana...

I pulled the engine in the SVX this morning and got it into my basement. I'll be going down in a few minutes to start to pull everything off to get ready for Ed to come and help do the head gaskets tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow night, I'll be putting everything back together. Thursday morning I'll finish the re-install and hopefully everything works If so then I guess sometime on Thursday we'll be heading south...

coolant leak
Hocrest replied to mdjdc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
On the SVX Racer, we had a similiar problem, we went through a couple pumps, and various used and new gaskets and couldn't stop the leak. I finally used a light coat of RV, and it's been fine since. -

Hey... I recognise that avatar.... I'll see if we can make it... -
So, as you may know, my 265K 2.2 in the Legacy shredded a bearing the other weekend on the way to Connie's Picnic. So I pulled a 130K mile 2.2 from the junkyard and finished up the install yesterday. It started right up and it runs great  but.... there is a low moaning at idle. Using a stethoscope it seems to be coming from the passenger side/rear of the engine. It also continues and trails off for a second after the engine stops. I thoght I traced it to the Idle Air thingy, but I swapped the one from my old engine and it is still there... Any ideas where else I should look?? I'm not sure if it matters, but while I had the engine out I also swapped the trans with the 4EAT that we used to have in the SVX Racer before we went to the 5-speed. edit: The noise can barely be heard with the hood down, and not at all while driving. It seems to go away when going above idle, but that may be because the engine noise drowns it out.

Rally New York Rally Cross July 1st Monticello NY
Hocrest replied to RallyKeith's topic in Rally/Racing
How'd you do? We were gonna swing through on the way back from Connie's on Sunday, but the Legacy decided to toast a bearing on the way up on Saturday -
I had the exact same issue with mine. That screw goes into the metal flange at the top of the filler pipe. That screw has to come out. Use a drill bit just a little larger than the width of the other screws, and drill straight through the head of the rusty screw, once you've drilled as deep as the head, it will be free. If you want to feel safe, pack the area with a damp cloth, but I've never seen a spark while drilling out a rusty screw head...

After 265,000 I toasted the engine in my 97 Legacy last week. I went to the yard yesterday to shop for a replacement. I found two 97's both with ~130k. One is a 2.2 for a direct replacement, one is a 2.5. The oil and coolant look clean in both of them. I don't have the time or money to do a HG job before I do the swap. I know the safe bet is to grab the 2.2... Anyone crazy enough to sugest the 2.5??? I found a reciept with a name and number on it in the 2.5. I'm gonna call and see if it's his car and if he's willing to fill me in on the history...

Here are the pics that Melis took. She's the only one that didn't get pictures of the trailer queen. http://picasaweb.google.com/hocrest1/ConniesPicnic2007 -

That's a great thought, but it doesn't work. He'll still bother us. -
