Heres a few pics.. My one is fully original. These pics were taken when I gave it a good polish and clean. Sadley it does look quite as good as I had the wheel fall off and do some damage to the guard and squashed the hub cap. -

On my 1974 1400 DL I still using drum brakes on the front. No problems... Just have to apply a little more pressure to the pedal since theres no brake booster. It stops fine.. In fact ive had been using it ( up till about 3 weeks ago when I got my Legacy ) to travel up and down quite steep hills for the last 12 months every day. -
Sadly I dont think I would be able to make it down that way for a while. If I was, it be in my Legacy lol. None of my old skoolers are road legal at the moment :-\

Your green 1600 4 door looks great. Never been fussed on the 1600 shape but I really like how it comes togeather... This is looking very good finally some members in the South Island that like the classic Subaru range.. Maybe sometime we can have a Old Skool Subaru meet up.

Ive own a 1974 DL Sedan. Ive owned it for a few years. Just up untill rescently it was my daily driver. Been very good and relaible. It was totally oringinal including the metal hubcaps. Great car and really enjoyed driving it It would be fitted with a 1400cc push rod ea63 engine if still original... that 5speed that the guy says it has could had come outer a later model 1400 or 1600? Its would be Front wheel drive. Fitting AWD um that would be very difficult since the car did not come in 4WD. It has a flat floor pan with No transmisson tunnel. Saying that if you were able to do alot of fab work and dont mind fitting a lift kit you could make it 4WD. Ive have seen one that had been done in OZ back in the 1970s. Theres a very pixalated pic of that bluely green 1400. -

Yeas but they only sold about 15 or so new here :-\ most got turned into rally cars including possums old one. And the very odd one was Jap 2nd hand imported. Ive only ever seen two... one that was dereged and one runner. We got a few more of the GLF coupe? seen about 5 of them. -

EA 63 engine rebuild question
kiwi subbie replied to Adam Bahm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
EA63 Head gaskets from subaru are no longer availble. I found most stuff for 1400s were no longer availble for subaru apart from the odd bit. You can fit a EA71 in if you got the right factory bell housing to do so ( saying that it was on fWD 1400s . I spose that would be the same??? ) -

That would be awesum to get that info dude In Christchurch we also got one of possums old mechanics. I think he worked with him in the latter years. He has his old 555 legacy wagon, 1 wrx rally car and the truck. Good guy to have work on your subbie -
Which rear badge is correct?
kiwi subbie replied to Datsunrides's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes the right one is diffently right.. Its same one that I had fitted to my 73 GL. I diffently prefer that badge compaired to the latter shape badges ive seen. -

kiwi subbie replied to ShawnW's topic in Subaru Transplants
From every thing I could find SUB4 is long gone out of business. When there website was running I tryed to email them about a set of heads they never replyed. There site is not working and most links apart from that one above do not work any more. Even I think backinbrat got the last of the SUB4 Heads? -

I was talking to my glass man about the stripping around the window and he told me he would push the window and rubber out then take the stripping out so not to damage it. -

Welcomes along dude. -
They all had torsion bars. They come off all in one piece as you can see in that pic of a trailer. The earlyer model does come in two peices and wouldnt be ideal to use. The the next generation got rear coils/struts or airbags Brats also have them... but its has the CV part that sticks out. since they are 4wd.. Im not sure if you can leave part of the cvs in or not. I was just thought the rear torsion bars of the front wheel drive would be best bet.
