Sube Restoration on Bravo
bryanthompson replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thanks- Those Chrysler shots must be from the Virgil Exner era. Funky cars. I love them too. I'd like to see pics some time if you got them. My email is: ilikebryan@gmail.com Shoot me an email and I'll send over a bigger version of the wagon. BT -
Hey gys- I wrote a new article about my love for Subarus and old Japanese cars in my cloumn - blog this week. Enjoy the stories: http://www.bravotv.com/blog/designblog Bryan

Merry Christmas!
bryanthompson replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I'm in Cali but my hometown is Prescott. My grandma still lives there so I was chillin with my "Mommalou." Wheelin sounds FUN!! I'm game. BT -
...And Seasons Greetings! I thought of the Sube clan today as I rolled down the street in the small mountain town, Prescott Arizona. It's a veritable Mecca of rust free, unbattered and happy looking ancient Subarus. It must be where Subarus go if they've been good. I even saw a bundled up old lady puttering along in a mild yellow Gen 1 4x4 Wagon... and her purse was sitting undisturbed on the roof! Definitely worth the trip for those on the hunt. Take care, all! Happy New Year. Bryan

Made me laugh out loud, too. I couldn't tell if they were taking the piss out of the car or if it was a serious offering... Either way, I wish I could have been there to snap it up (and the holiday rebate from the 'cash tree')

3/4 of the way through the dealer vid. must have been cool to see it on the lot back then:

Fantastic. That's the ideal BRAT. I love it. -

Andrew- My bad. I totally know your name, too. I was working with a modeler named Shawn all day when I wrote those messages in a hurry. Nerd alert. As to what's next in the garage, I'm not sure yet. I have a few fantasy Subes I'd like to restore: 1. Metallic Brown Gen 1 BRAT with graphics 2. 360 Wagon (The cargo-box version with the Sedan front end) 3. Black Gen 2 GL "Cannon Ball Run" Hatch. I bet the actual Movie Car is out there somewhere... -

That yellow IS incredible. It never photographs the same twice. Sometimes it looks green and other times it's brilliant yellow. I love it too. Andrew- Your wagon is welcome in my garage any time. My favorite part of the old car experience is the restoration process! Bryan -
Howdy all- The '73 Splitgate is just about ready for auction. You guys get first crack, though. Enjoy the pics. I've had a lot of fun with this car! BT +++++++++Added:+++++++++++ PS: Thanks for the emails. Nope, I'm not getting out of Subies; just making room for the new. Some day I'll have a big house full of cars, but for now I only have room for one at a time.
-
Howdy Folks- Now that the wagon is on the front burner, what are the prospects for finding door seals? These are the worst parts on the car- They look like black, blistery sausages that were left in the skillet way too long. Any leads? Thx BT PS- I've got an extra split-gate tailgate (lower half) if any one is interested.

Stripping paint from 73 Tailgate
bryanthompson replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thanks for the tips. Let's say I found a 50k mile rust-free Southern California car with a great interior and a perfect body. It's really cheap but it was given a terrible respray. What's the best way to strip the body? Door jambs and engine bay are still nice and original. -
i bit the bullet and bought another brat

Wow. Very nice. I love that it's brown, too. Looks like you'll have lots of fun with it! BT -
Subaru Star, how rare?
bryanthompson replied to ubercrap's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I spoke to them today on my drive to Long Beach. They are very nice. The woman told me that they crushed the Japanese cars (gasp.) But I want to see for myself. I may go home to Phoenix next weekend for my BD. I will keep you posted. BT -
78 DL Wins First Place at JCCS!
bryanthompson replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
It was a really cool show. No attitude; just fun people in a chill atmosphere. Even my dog Lou was welcome to run around and make friends. The blue car is a Mazda R360. I love it. BT -
Yup, the little yellow sedan took "Best Subaru." Just between us, there were only two other Subarus at the show. But don't tell him that; he had an extra pep in his drive all the way home! Pics: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=13075&cat=500 PS- I didn't want to overwhelm the photo archives with SOB's (some other brands) but I have tons more pics. PM me if you want to see them. I restored that orange Datsun in the pics years ago. Its not mine any more but it won a prize too. Anthony will remember the car from our design school days in Detroit...when it was rusted and full of holes... Enjoy- BT

Splitgate Gos to the Drive-In!
bryanthompson replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
LOL! Thanks boys, but those two girls are just my buds. They're local news anchors and they always have the best gossip. Lots of jabbering; not so much movie watchin' but lots of fun!
