  1. I went to the yard and salvaged what I could from the items requested. Here are the results: subilvr2212 -- The accelerator pedal was bent in half. Not sure how that happens, but I didn't think it was worth saving. Sorry, but I'll keep an eye out for one next time. Paul (Moosens) -- I was able to get most of the things on your list that were in good condition. This includes: passenger seat back door panels - shifter boot - steering column plastic cover with "illumination lamp" that sits on topside steering wheel (NOT THE COLUMN ITSELF, just the lamp cover and mechanicals) Give me a call or pm me and we can discuss details for shipping and payment. BT
  2. Hey Paul- I should have time to go over there this Saturday. I'll print your list and take it with me. I remember that the door panels were really nice. BT
  3. Does anyone remember that yellow Gen1 stage 1 wagon on ebay a few months back for sale by the Petersen museum? That car put together with this car would have made a nice little resto. Wonder who bought the yellow one. They could use the rear bumper from this one for sure.
  4. I know. I was really sad and excited at the same time to see it there. If I had been there a day earlier I probably could have saved it for someone. If someone is seriously interested, I could try and talk the guy into selling the car with a salvage title. It looks like it was sitting for a long time before it was dropped off in the yard (all flat tires, very dirty and a sign that reads "this is not an abandoned vehicle" on the tailgate....) I'll check on that accelerator pedal. BT
  5. Its rusty by California standards but it has some good trim parts. Door panels are nice. Anything I can carry out with 2 hands, I am glad to get for you. Sorry the pics are so grainy -- I only had my phone with me. LINK: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11678&cat=500&ppuser=19119 Bryan ilikebryan@gmail.com
  6. Gen 1 lovers, be sure to check my post in the craigslist portion of this subaru forum... You're not gonna want to miss this. It's very...creative.
  7. Thanks, Todd. After disassembling it and closer inspection, I found the remnants of black paint in the corners. Its amazing -- Looks like there was no surface prep or primer and the paint was ultra thin. I imagine it must have worn away very quickly. Anyways, they've now been repsrayed satin black and they look really good. Also had those top-surface bumper flanges powder-coated black. BT
  8. Howdy -- Happy 4th! Was the front signal light trim on the 78's always black? From what I can find in the brochures, it appears so. But every car I've seen has bare aluminum trim. Have they all lost their paint over the years ? By the way, any one out there got a nice condition driver's side trim piece? Mine is a little dented. See pic: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=11635&cat=500 BT
  9. Bryan here- I'd really like to claim those hubcaps. I will pay someone to ship them to me. I called the number, but its not connected. BT
  10. Wow, my favorite part is the old "KZZP 104.7 FM" bumper sticker! Being a Phoenix native myself, I couldn't help but notice that relic from my childhood. That radio station hasn't been around for more than a decade. What a great blast from the past! Car looks awesome too! BT
  11. A little painted color sample would be great. My address is: Bryan Thompson c/o Nissan Design America 9800 Campus Point Drive San Diego, CA 92121 I can reimburse you for any costs involved- Thanks! BT
  12. Amanda- I really like that blue. Its very modern. Is that a color you made or is it from another manufacturer? It looks close to the Subaru blue of that era but it looks muted and less saturated in the photos. I showed it around the studio and everyone was very charmed by the retro/modern combination of the old car and new color. Where can I find a sample? BT
  13. Amanda- That's awesome- You should bring your car to the West Coast Japanese Calssic Car Show this September -- I'll be there with my little yellow guy and it would be fun to meet you. Here is a link: http://www.japaneseclassiccarshow.com/ BT
  14. GOOD LORD! That is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Nice pics, nice car -- Welcome. Bryan
  15. engine bay done, addressing some rust, looking for vinyl... wheels should be back on in next day or two. pics: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=19119
  16. スバル Is SuBaRu (ス=SU, バ=BA, ル=RU) Its katakana. Subaru is also written in kanji in the smaller grey text to the left of the larger, bold katakana text. BT
  17. Thanks! If you like Airstreams, check it out: Those trailers were given to us by Airstream in exchange for the one we designed for them, "The BaseCamp." You can see pics on my site: http://www.bryanthompsondesign.com
  18. Heh, heh. I'll keep it under 50mph... oh wait, that's the top speed... Thanks man! BT
  19. Ha ha! I hear ya boys... But the place that's doing the work is one we normally use for cars that are going into museums (mine's not.) They are giving me a substantial discount so I can't pass it up... I'm unable to do most of the things they do, like removing engines to clean the bay, powder coating parts, or disasembling doors to get at the inner jams to clean and check for hidden rust... I can fix the little mistakes they make from time to time... I'll post pics of the car soon - Its truly amazing what they've done to it.
  20. So, the other day I wrote a post about the tragic end of my parcel tray. Well, today is a glorious day because it has been saved. My savior was Brenda Parkin, Chief Designer for Nissan's Color and Materials. She is a real sweetheat, and if you like her handy work, hit her up and tell her so at her myspace account; http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=29558895 Here is how you too can save your crumbly, ratty, stained, paper parcel tray in less than an hour. 1. Remove it veeeeery carefully. 2. Clean with a lint free rag and acetone (again, be verrrry careful and light on the acetone- this is just to get rid of any oils) 3. Color match or pick a close color (we used Dupont Vinyl paints because they age well in the sun) 4. Dust one coat very lightly. 5. Let dry to the touch (still tacky) and remove any left over lint with latex gloves. 6. Apply, 2-3 heavier coats- this will keep the original texture intact. 7. Smile- you've just saved a peice of history! Here are pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14961802@N00/sets/72157594147019724/
  21. Yo, yo, yo!... That's me; Emcee Boxer-Piston. Yeah, its getting the white walls, Paul. The tires that were on it crumbled when they took them off, so I decided to get stripes all around.
  22. Yup- I am doing the stripes- As soon as they get here they are goin on. Right now the car is still on blocks until the wheels come back from the powder-coaters. As soon as she's done I'll post lots o' pics. I can't wait becasue I just got her and I haven't driven her in two weeks! BT
  23. Thanks, fellas- I am gonna try and have our color/materials department spray it with a thick primer and then color match with a vinyl paint. Here's hoping that will work. I am just bummed because it had a really cool techno-texture in the cardboard that I won't be able to replicate. (I guess that makes me sound pretty anal, but those are the kinds of details that I love on these old cars..) Have a good weekend, boys- I am off to Phoenix. I'll take the want list with me in case I go yarding. BT
  24. Howdy- So the guys detailing out my 78 DL soaked the rear parcel tray and more or less turned it from taught and beige to crumbly and black. Anyone got leads on how to repair these or get a new one? Otherwise, the car is looking like it just rolled out of its shipping container. I'll post pics soon. Help please...I'm crushed. BT:rolleyes:
  25. WOW! I've looked through the albums but I've never seen that car. Holy Tomato Cow, that thing is gorgeous! Did you restore it yourself? Congrats! Bryan
