  1. That looks like fun, I need to get up there and wheel with you guys when I get my rig built, The Beast just aint up for it right now, but the brown wagon should be fun. -Bill
  2. Dude that car is lookin killer, I cant wait to see it in person. As far as the motor, why not build the EA71 with 1400 heads now while its out? If you need a block I have a couple, I will let one go cheap, but I dont know how to get it to you... -Bill
  3. covers off FTW. If you leave your splash guards and skid plate on, and you stay out of the mud, you should be fine. It will make it much easier to do repairs in the future, redoing the belts will take 30min-1hr max, and a waterpump can be changed in 10 minutes, and the radiator doesnt have to be pulled anymore. You can change the belts and such if they break on the side of the road with basic tools and be back on the road in record time. I have no covers on my RX and on my Mom's GL wagon, and its been a welcome change with how often Ive been workin on that damn wagon lately. -Bill
  4. My experience with the Felpros is a good one, I have them on all the Subarus that run and they have held up well. the others didnt work very good for very long, for me anyway. -Bill
  5. Are you using Jerry's 5 speed kit or are you DIY? If the hammer you got aint workin, you need a bigger hammer I had a problem where the 8 pound sledge wasnt doin the job, the metal would just spring back, so I got my 24 oz ball-peen hammer and went to town, and it worked like a dream! you can make precise hits and control the flex of the metal a lot better with a smaller hammer sometimes -Bill
  6. Sounds like a good Idea, seein as how i got nothin newer than 1988- yet -Bill
  7. Im guessing these gaskets you are trying to have made wouldnt fit Gen 1 wagons then eh? I need ALL the rubber for my pair of Stage 1s. Ones a split gate, so I dont know what Im gonna do there. :-\
  8. What about rear window weatherstrips for Wagons? or all the door weatherstripping? How much would that cost to have made or is that even going to be an option?
  9. It looks to me that the unibody beneath our bumpers is different than yours, its just flimsy and there is no place for the license plate. Yours I would guess is a little more beefed up, and it has that recess for the plates, yes?
  10. How come the Brumbys got those cool rear bumpers where there is nothing in between the corners while here in the states all we got were the full bumpers? I kinda like the way those Aussie bumpers look, more utilitarian Just a random thought -Bill
  11. Maybe you should check the PCV system while youre at it, couldnt hurt anything to check.
  12. Maybe talk to Scott (SJR) he does that kind of stuff every now and then -Bill
  13. I too used the EA82 flywheel, no modification to the wheel needed, but I had to cut a little bit of aluminum off the block down where the cover plate on the bottom of the bellhousing is. I used the EA82 piece cuz I couldnt get my clutch to fully engage with the EA81 piece.
  14. the driveshaft from the d/r car should work. IIRC, the wheelbase is the same on the XT and the other EA82 cars. All EA82 cars are the same wheelbase.
  15. I read the article in the link, I read something about a 430 hp 3.7L??? I WANT!!! Not the car, just the engine.
  16. hmmm, well on that note I guess they only kept the EA82 around, even after the Legacy and Impreza came out, to make the new cars look all the more advanced and make them want them more, eh? Like standing next to an ugly guy to make yourself look better -Bill
  17. Air Ride Technologies has the "Shockwave" series of air struts, i bet those could be made to fit a sube without much more than custom brackets and mounting points on the suspension. http://www.ridetech.com/ -Bill
  18. They may not be pretty, but without the lessons learned from the flaws of the EA82 there would be no legacy in the form they came. It was just a step of evolution. I kinda like the EA82 style, I dont care much for the looks of anything newer, save for the Baja and the Outback sedans. That being said, I would never pay more than 500 bucks for any EA82 wagon, and I wouldnt pay over 1000 for any EA82 model. I work on them, I know what a pain in the a$$ they can be, but they will get you around just fine. And if your wheelin it, throw a EA81 or a EJ in there and you have a disposable body. Id rather bash up an EA82 body than an EA81 or older. They are definitely plentiful enough. I like the interiors myself, Im not too into the modern curvey stuff. If nothing else, they would make a great starting point for a project wheeler or sleeper speed racer
  19. I dont know why, but for some reason that car repulses me... Perfect for a winter beater... Looks like it needs a nice red lift kit to really be all it can be
  20. I made an adaptor plate to run a Ford 2bbl carb on my EA81, it works pretty well but the carb needs rebuilt. The throttle plates dont close on their own, I have to blip the throttle to get it to idle down every time I stop. Gets ok mileage for a rig running 31 inch tires. My Hatch has a Weber on it, gets 27 mpg with my heavy foot and has plenty of power to boot. The only problem I have with it is it diesels pretty bad sometimes, but It just needs to be tuned or re jetted. I will never go back to a stock craptachi carb, and FI just isnt my style. Ive heard great things about it, but Im stubborn and I love my carbs. -Bill
