  1. sounds like a timing belt, has happened to me many times I dont know about the starter though...
  2. I saw a red 81 Brat, it had an EJ22 in it, from Idaho, came and picked up a topper from me, I got to drive it he made cut outs in the framerails to make it fit right, was really nice!
  3. oohhhhh I see, I guess I should start running one of those in the Beast, my amp and my 100 watt offroad lights do draw a lot of power, especially running together. I want to do an alternator swap as well, but Im kinda lazy, and Ive only had to swap 1 alternator...
  4. Why the yellow top? I like the red tops myself... If I recall, the Blue ones are deep cycle for marine use, but what was special about the yellow ones? I forgot :-\
  5. I saw a EA82 Sedan at a monster truck show, musta been about 2000 or earlier, it was hilarious cuz this car was doing things even the tuff trucks wouldnt do, and it was stock! The funniest part though, was when they announced it was a Subaru, it was pretty quiet in the stands and all you could hear was this one guy yell at the top of his voice WHOOOOOOOOO SUBARUUUUU!!! I got a kick outa that
  6. My mom's 86 GL 4x4 gets 29 mpg consistently, it is carbed and completely stock. My 87, EA81, 6 inch lift, 31 inch Toyos, 11 mpg if I tread lightly on the go pedal...
  7. I wonder, who here knows if the components inside Nissan rear axles are the same or close to the same as the Subaru diff parts, cuz if they are, many doors start to open...
  8. I believe Suzuki commisioned Subaru to build the Justy under contract, but thats just what I have heard... Most of the Justy has almost nothing in common with other subes though.
  9. Diamondplate steel, havent had a problem yet, and it has taken some abuse since that pic
  10. It's ok, happens to the best of us If you cant find the strap then you will have to dig around for the latch mechanism and pull it with your finger.
  11. Great stuff to know! Thanks for prompt replies guys. Im going to be leaving it independent supension, just because I have had a hell of a time trying to find solid axles that I can afford, and like I was sayin, its kinda a side project. I will be doing custom A arms for the front suspension, but I am leaving the geometry alone (lift the struts 9 inches, lift everything else 9 inches) so I dont worry about hyperextension. As far as welding the diffs, I wasnt planning on that, I am going to leave them open until I can get a hold of a pair of 3.9 LSD diffs. I wonder if there would be enough demand to commision Randy's Ring and Pinion or a similar company to start making high strength diff components? I figure if you upgrade everything just a little bit you can still expect the usual culprits to fail, just not as often as usual. So with 33's and medium trail use, with open diffs, I can prolly expect about 3 months or so from my axles?
  12. Hey there all you big bad off roaders, I am wondering just how well the axles on EA series cars hold up to the quadrupled or more torque being sent through them due to the addition of a transfer case and oversize tires in excess of 30 inches. Also, I would tend to believe that more axles break on welded diffs than on open ones. What I am doing is a 9 inch lifted EA car with an EJ motor, nissan T case, and I plan on running 33 inch tires, and I want an Idea of about how many times I will have to replace an axle on the trail Also, has anyone looked into custom axles with U joints instead of CV's, or just stronger CV's? Lookin to make it as capable as possible, but cost is also a big factor here, this is more of a side project while I wait on some parts that I need for my Brat... Any and all information is greatly appreciated! Thanks -Bill EDIT:Oops, I meant this to go in Off road:banghead: Sorry Mods
  13. Indeed, Great thread, this is very helpful as I am building a T cased EA car as well...
  14. you could extend the lower control arms, but then I would be worried about over extending the axles
  15. When can we enter for the logo contest for WCSS11?
  16. it works really well, and the box is fully removable, so If i need more room for say a large package I can always take out the box and I have all the hatch available (minus the 12 inch sub of course) I am gonna try installing side boxes in place of the little plastic compartments on my next project, so we will see how that works out
  17. nothing earth shattering, but since I have decided to use my wagon as my work/weekend warrior, I decided to install a tool box in the back, quite simple and tidy, and i still have a small smuggler's hatch, and the box itself is completely removable.
  18. Hey any chance it has the walnut 5 spd shifter knob? and if it does, would you be willing to sell it to me? -Bill
  19. A pair of European side draft carbs, like from an old Ferrari or or something would be pretty cool, pretty sure you would have to make a custom manifold to make it work right though :-p
