  1. Make the Bracket so the compressor stays in the exact same place it is or a little higher and more over the alternator, but I know for a fact it can be done, it isnt that difficult, and I have seen the end result in action. Also the guide pully can be moved if the need be, or you could get a water pump pulley with the 2 grooves, I dont recal which cars had them, but some EA81s did and then no need for the guide pulley
  2. That is always a great feeling to see your rig at the end of a long weekend. One time me and my Dad and lil bro were camping about 2 miles straight down from the trailhead, and we had to hike out on the 3rd night in a rainstorm and I had never been happier to see that toyota on the other side of those boulders, that is until all three of us had to sleep in the cab (and its a standard cab ) but it sure beats sleepin in the weather
  3. batteries can be moved, and air cleaners can be changed, but most importantly brackets can be made and it can be done, it just depends on how stock you want to keep it. Maybe Jerry will jump in here sometime and help with some pics of his setup, I know it works cuz Ive seen it run in person.
  4. I know it can be done because Jerry (Bratsrus1) has a 4 inch on his hatchbrat, and he is using his ac compresser for and air compressor, all you need to do is custom mounting brackets and longer belts, and who says you cant put it on the other side of the motor if it will make it easier? anything can be done if you have the motivation
  5. Im in, I dunno if I need one or not but I will be taking the dash outa my '80 Brat so I might as well do it while its apart.
  6. If you want to see some nasty stuff you should seen the inside of the Beast when I got it from my aunt it was like sitting in a dumpster, there was trash everywhere, and the seats had some sort of black crust on them it was gross, but after 2 weeks of soaking and cleaning, it was all better than new:) the cheap b***h didnt leave any change though (you can see how much I love my aunt) Anyway it was a nasty nasty car until I got it
  7. Now that I have the other project out of the way, back to my Brat. I think im gonna go for a stock-ish appearance with the shifters, but Im goin to twin stick it, so what Im doin for that is putting 2 shifters side by side with original boots in the spot where the 4x4 shifter is now, and using stock shift handles. For the 5 speed shifter I need a wooden knob from a gen 1 5 speed 2wd, so it looks like original. I did a shifter linkage last night, but I looked at it today and I dont like it so I will re do it after I fix the clutch cable on my mom's wagon. And I ordered 3 new clutch cables today, one for my wagon, one for my mom's, and one for the Brat. And I should have a good running motor and the rear struts this weekend. Also I will have pictures within 2 weeks, my new laptop has been ordered yay
  8. That thing is pretty sweet, I still like the 5 ton Rockwells more though
  9. I don't care much for most hondas, but we seem to be building a Prelude collection out here for some odd reason..... Preludes and CRX are the only hondas I like, that and NSXs, but I hate transverse motors with a passion. That Prelude? looks pretty good though
  10. Yo dude I couldnt send you my latest pm, so Im posting it here instead: Ok, I have the lift done, so here's your pics before I tear it down to get it sandblasted: Enjoy, see ya this weekend (with my struts I hope )
  11. Progress, unfortunately without pics :-\ I got the car in the shop, the 5 speed d/r is in, next up is shifter linkage. I am waiting on some longer struts and some disk brakes as well, right now I have drums on in the rear. What is left to do: -Rear struts -Rear disks -shifter linkage -engine -Fab adapter for Rochester 2 bbl carb -Exhaust -finish stripping the interior floor, treat rust, re-insulate, re-carpet -rear seats -custom driveshaft -swap out 3.7 rear diff for 3.9 to match tranny -6 lug conversion -wheels and tires -all the little things I forgot to think about Im hoping to have something to take to a car show on the 8th, but right now this is taking a backseat to another project that is making me some $$$ Also I found out my laptop is insured so I will hopefully have pics soon!
  12. Ok, I haven't taken any pics of my recent progress, due to my laptop being stolen from my car while I was in the junkyard but I am about halfway done with the rear suspension and if I get some rear brakes this week it will be off jackstands, then I can focus on the drivetrain/interior.
  13. Thats pretty awesome dude, if you want to try to get another one for parts or something I know where there is one, but i dont know if it's for sale
  14. Thanks man I am really animated to get this thing done and on the road, and for some reason everything seems really easy on this rig  which is a first for any of my projects. I cant wait to drive it!
  15. More Progress as of tonight: Dont need these anymore EA82 rear assembly Now I just need to make it fit Im lifting the rear about 2 inches higher than the front so I can get a nice agressive stance I will start fabbing up the components for the rear crossmember to attach to the body tomorrow.
  16. the easiest way is to do the twin stick mod, there is a write up in the USRM. The other way is to run a transfer case as many off roaders do.
  17. Pics from the engine bay: I have decided to transfer all the good parts that I need from this Brat onto my better body, due to the rust infecting the entire car It looks like this pretty much everywhere else on the vehicle. I got my rear in gear and yesterday fabbed up the 3 inch lift for the front of my project, and I got the struts/lower arms from the other car installed. I still need to do the rear though, I am contemplating using an EA82 rear assembly from my wrecked wagon because I like the width. After I do the rear I will rebuild my motor OR I WILL TRADE 2 EA71 COMPLETE MOTORS FOR 1 RUNNING EA81 MOTOR. I also am planning a 5 spd D/R swap when I get an EA81 motor. I also need the rear seats and a set of low offset white spoke14" Chevy 6 lug rims and then I will do a 6 lug conversion. Any way just wanted to share my progress -Bill
  18. gas mileage is the key this time, not power, so I think the smaller ports will be ok
  19. would like to know if it will fit before I buy it, can anyone please let me know if it will work?
  20. Yeah, I will repair the threads if I have to, as a last resort, I have another pair of heads, I just have to pull them and I dont know what kind of shape they are in as rhe motor they are on has a blown head gasket and is filled with water :-\ I am also thinkin that if they half a$$ed the outside of the engine, what else did they mess up? kinda scary to think about it now that I do... Oh well, it runs really smooth and quiet except that it wont idle at all and it needs to be timed. I will take some pics of the motor tomorrow and show off the craptacular repairs:lol:
  21. ouch cracked aluminum=no fun, I hope you have a set layin around though
  22. is it cracked or are the threads just stripped? If it's not too bad I might be able to work with it
  23. So I went out and I finally started workin on one of my Brats, I got it for 100 bucks 2 years ago, and it looked like this: I took some parts off my other Brat and now it looks like this: It has a lot of rust in the wheel wells though, it is horrid, I can see the tire from inside the cab, but right now I just want to make it run right. I have to pull the motor and fix the rear main seal leak, it pours oil when I run the engine, and there are a bunch of little things I need to fix as well, but all the 4wd stuff works and all the axles are good A little work and it will be my daily driver, I think it will get considerably better mileage than the Beast does (12 mpg ) Just had to share -Bill Ok, I went out and took a good look at my engine, and I need heads. Some idiot used regular American bolts on the intake manifold, so if there are any EA71 heads floatin around out there for cheap let me know please. Thanks
