This is a little off the point, but Ive found out that on the ea82s the 2wd have differents splines and and don't fit on a 4wd, cuz I tried replacing mine with a pair from a 2wd, but they didn't work. Anyways, just wanted to mention that. -Bill

'88 DL strut match an '85?
The Beast I Drive replied to 85glsw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The struts should interchange, as long as the 85 is an ea82 -
count me in if you want, I'd like to see what my wagon can do:burnout:

I just said F***k the cats and I ran twin pipes with glasspacks - there's nothing else in the world that sounds like a twin piped Subaru, it almost sounds powerful -Bill

EA 82's fat smokescreen???
The Beast I Drive replied to subarari's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here's whats happening; Because the engine is horizantally opposed, any lateral g force forces oil into the cylinder head, and it goes into the cylinder and burns. Mine does it on curved freeway ramps too -
what can i do with this damned suspension!!!!
The Beast I Drive replied to crazy D's topic in Off Road
Baja Racing suspension, duh? Just kidding, I saw this trick someone did on an 87 wagon; they took the left lower arm and swapped it to the right and vice versa, then put an eye in the end of the traction bar (which was now facing forward), and made a mount for it on the front of the engine crossmember, effectively creating an A-arm, and creating dramatic suspension flex capability. Taking off the sway bar, of course. -Bill -
The Loyale's last ride...
The Beast I Drive replied to Andy FitzGibbon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wow..... That is some of the worst rust I've ever seen on a Subaru, or any car for that matter, and Ive seen some pretty bad rust..... It's totally fixable, all you have to do is drop out the rear suspension (the whole thing, crossmember and everything just unbolts from the body), and put in a new one (unless the bolts don't come out, then your screwed). Sad to see another Subaru bite the dust:dead: -Bill -
Sputter Cough Cough
The Beast I Drive replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My car chewed some of the cogs off the belts, so it would run fine at higher rpms, but sputter at idle and lower rpms. -
Great Idea, s**ty fabrication skills:dead:

the timing is bonkers, mine was like that for a while. It could also be connected to the carburetor or a vacuum line in some way. -
Side Trim

They are plastic clips, they break unless you get up inside the body to pop them loose with pliers or something -

General EA82 Tranny Question
The Beast I Drive replied to newsoobdude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would go with the dual range tranny, so with a transfer case you can have double low range gears; the single range tranny from a DL should have the same crossmember as the dual range tranny, and would be a direct bolt on in an 86. Ive also noticed that the manual tranny cars have 2 crossmembers; one for the manual tranny, AND one for the auto tranny, but the autos only have the one. That was a little off subject, but I just felt like saying it:) -
I think it's in the guage cluster, but I cant remember, and I'm too lazy to get up and go check right now:)

The ECU is under the steering column, though, and both of my drivers are carbureted, but the Turbo was injected
