  1. I have never utilized the aforementioned test connectors. Do you know what color they are?
  2. Jumped the gun before I say Tex's message. I will take a look and see what I got. Thanks again!
  3. Thanks Gloyale. I think there may be two coolant temp sensors? One for engine control and one for the temperature gauge?
  4. My trusty '92 has developed an intermittent condition where when I first start it up from cold (first thing in the morning, for example), the MIL/CEL comes on, the radiator fan comes on and it runs rough and idles at a very low speed (like 5 or 6 hundred rpm). The light goes off and everything returns to normal about the time the temperature gauge is coming up to the normal, just below midpoint, reading. It does not do this every time. Often it starts and runs normally. Non turbo EJ22, manual transmission, front wheel drive, 220k miles. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike V.
  5. The electric radiator cooling fan does not seem to come on even when the car is sitting idling (in traffic for instance). I say "does not seem to" because I am getting the info second hand. Assuming it does not come on, how does one troubleshoot this issue? Vehicle is a 1997 Legacy with the original EJ22 non-turbo SOHC engine and it has the manual transmission. Mileage is about 290,000.
  6. Yeah, you can't beat a Brighton! Wife has a '97. Very sweet. Curious though, why convert such a vehicle to rear disc brakes?
  7. Thanks for the additional comments fellas. I typically just drop the trans when I do a Subaru clutch. As it turns out, it looks like I won't be doing this job anyway. But I appreciate the tip about the axles which I will keep in mind if things change. Thanks again. Mike V.
  8. I have replaced clutches in Loyales and Legacies as new as 1997 but never a Forester. Would the Forester be significantly different in terms of time and effort? Any special considerations, etc?
  9. Thanks again guys. Just FYI, I got my niece's other car (Toyota 4Runner) back on the road so that sort of takes the pressure off of the Subie situation. I'll come back here once a plan materializes. I will try to phrase my questions better at that time. Don't seem to be getting my point across at present.
  10. Hi Gloyale, Sorry for my density, but would you please expand on why I would need to swap over the intake manifold from my old engine? That was kind of my question: What model year range engines (and other stuff like California car or not, etc.) will be plug and play? I would have thought that doing something like swapping the intake assemblies (with the associated wiring harnesses) would only be necessary if I am not using the same generation engine or something. And why would I want to change over the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets? Thanks again.
  11. Ok, so I take it that I need a 2006 to 2009 SOHC 2.5. Does the type of trans (Auto versus Manual) matter? I am looking for plug and play and am worried that there may be some difference in the ECUs or wiring harnesses or something. Thanks again, Mike V.
  12. What year range of 2.5 liter SOHC engines will be a direct swap-in (this is an automatic transmission if that is important) for this particular motor?
