The demise of the 9.5:1 turbo engine
iluvdrt replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i have a complete cylinder head for the #1, and #3 cylinders. it has a small crack in between the valves, but worked fine on my car. it is off a 87 ea82t wagon. if you are interested im me and i will give it to you for free, minus the shipping. you pay that. -
thats what i was thinking. thanks.

well, a spit of good luck happened upon me today, as i was offered another free suby. it is a 86 gl sedan with f/i, 2wd, auto. it runs perfect and aside from being "ugly" as the guy said there is nothing wrong with it. he just doesnt need it anymore. my question is, is how hard would it be to put this engine into my 85 wagon d/r 5 spd? i know the engine will bolt to the trans, but what about the wireing for the engine, and ecu? is that a real hard deal, or something that will take a weekend, and some beers? thanks.

Does anyone have sube tool #499817000?

i set mine down inside a spare tire rim. the oil pan fits nicely into a 14" rim. -
efi troubleshooting, yes again.

my coolant temp sensor would make my car like that. they are cheap too, so it might be worth checking into. -
i am going through the same problem too. what i have found is, if you have a bill of sales, arizona will get you a title, then you can just register in what ever state you wish. or what i am doing is getting a good mechanic friend to use the vin and put a mechanics lean on it. he will get the title for the car(at my expence), then sign it over to me.

fastest/cheapest way to gain ground clearance

hey GD, can you pm me more details on doing this, as in placement of the blocks, etc. i have wondering about doing this for a long time. thanks. -
you can mail your axles to me, if they will fit on a 85 wagon d/r 5 5spd. i would gladly take them if they are in good shape.

EA82T Emissions, What Emissions??? (survey)
iluvdrt replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
are we talking about a factory ea82t? if so i would love to know what i couls take off. it seems like if i even unplug 1 darn thing, it will not run. -
that is a good idea. i had never thought of using a 13b intercooler. looks good. are you going to take the 13b logo off of it?
-
no, it is no longer clogged. the car has been sitting for about 8-9 years, and i just figured the gas had gelled inside the tube or something. what ever was clogging it took 145 psi to blow it out. i think my carb is just shot, and it may not have very much gas(or should i say varnish) left in it. just wanted to make shure before i start hitting the inclines and really getting on her.
-
i was just wondering if there are any hoses inside the gas tank on a gl wagon. the reason i ask is because my fuel line was acting clogged, and after some troubleshooting i discovered the fuel was no longer coming out of the tank. i took some compressed air and blew it into the tank via the carb line coming off the tank. it made a pop noise and the the fuel started coming out. the problem is, is that any time i am on a big incline the car stops running(not that it ran that great anyway) and i am wondering if i blew off some kind of internal rubber line going somewhere in the tank so that when i am on incline the fuel line is no longer reaching the fuel in the back of the tank. also, what does the fuel separator do? does it just separate vapors from the tank? thanks.

the turbo on the ea82t has both. the oil lines provide the bearing, and the antifreeze lines cool it. if it is leaking coolant it will not go into the engine, but into the exhaust where it will be burnt. this could cause the failed emission test.

Loyale is pinging, why????????
iluvdrt replied to Buddythedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you are right. you need to get the engine up to operating temperature, then connect the green connectors under the dash by the ecu. -

i think he said it was getting fuel, it just acted like it was stopping. i also think it was the maf. -
Loyale is pinging, why????????
iluvdrt replied to Buddythedog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had always thought advanceing the timing would ake things worse. since he is at a higer altitude the air is less dense, and so he would have to have it retarded. on any car i have ever owned when it pings you retard the timing. the reason it isnt pinging with the 92 octane is because it has a higher detonation tolerance, and the lesser octane doesnt. it wouldnt ping if the timing is too retarded, it would miss and lack power. correct me if im wrong here. -
well since my wife has been away, i have had some serious time to work on the junk yard 85 d/r wagon i scored. i finnaly got the timing belts on and de-emissioned iit. i had some problems with the fuel pump not kicking on so i moved into the engine bay and hard wired it to a switch. i placed an inline fuel filter next to the carb. the problem is, is that she runs very rough, and keeps spirting fuel out the carb when i gas it. i know the timing is right, and although the spark plpugs and wires are old, i dont think that is problem. i sprayed carb cleaner around the base of the carb and in the middle section and it idled up. so that makes me think the carb needs rebuilt because it is leaking vacume. no big deal right? wrong. upon further inspection it appears someone took a screw driver and not only stripped out the air fuel mixture screw, they rammed it into the carb, so it cannot be adjusted. i need a 85 ea82 wagon carb. if anyone has one please help. now for problem #2. when i got the car the steering column was missing a lot of pieces. i put it back together and tightened down the wheel onto the splines. well on a test drive while turning the steering wheel just turned and the car didnt. stripped splines is all i could think of. any other thoughts? i know the little boots on the inner tie rods are torn, but they appear t be in good shape, as are the outer tie rods. could it be the steering shaft? either way, i think i would just rather just replace the steering column. i need a steering column, with ign. switch, and turn signal switch. the cvs were popping real loud as well, so i took them off and regreased them. the balls had some rust pitting and what not, but they appear to be holding up now. also how much oil pressure is it supposed to have? i think it is sitting around 15-20 psi. i replaced the oil pump out of an old turbo block i had and it helped a little. the old one had some grooves cut into it pretty bad. i am running 20w50 oil. the lifters are tapping a little but from what ive read that isnt a big deal. of course the oil pressure sensor hasnt been changed yet, so that may be the problem as well. thanks for helping with your suggestions.

did the fuel pump come out of a suby with the same unit? the mpfi, has a very high fuel pressure where as the carbed versions and tbi versions do not. the pumps look the same too. also something to think about, are you sure its running out of fuel? maybe it is shutting off because of something else. maf sensor maybe, thats the ways a car acts when you unplug the maf. also does it have a new fuel fiter?
