  1. you can get quite alot off the front without messsig with the rad support, but if you wanted you could go right to the timnig covers and fab up a box for the front and get a few more inches, but the rad support is pretty far back, really... http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii148/jubnub1/KZ440010.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii148/jubnub1/KZ440007.jpg
  2. i have a bad turbo not for sale, its bad... but you can't have it cause im throwing it away...
  3. i did that on my gl twag, but i took off the ac at the same time so im not sure which one had the biggest power boost. you will lose about 50 pounds of crap, and the ratio is about the same. plus its really not that hard to turn a 5-inch wide tire. go for it
  4. dude you all are awesome! subarus rule! i have recently aquired my third one, originally for parts, but i put timing belts on it and now i drive it everyday!! Sweet!!
  5. i use 91 octane also. anything else runs like crap, pings. but then, i have the high compression bottom end with no intercooler... maybe i should get one....
  6. sweet. i actually have a can of deep creep in the shop. i will try it.
  7. anybody know an easy way to get a stuck cv axle off a rear diff on a ea82? i think the car sat for like 3 years or something, there is a little rust. i got one off but can't seem to budge the other one. the pin came right out, but the axle won't move. and yes, i tried a bigger hammer:headbang: i cant think of anything except heating it up and trying some more. any advice would be helpful. thanks
  8. Zip Ties? I never thought of that! Sweet!
  9. +1 on the cam timing.. when i put mine together we had one side 180 degrees off and it did the same thing. really pissed me off too...
  10. in case anyone is interested, i have now put 11,000 miles on this engine with no problems at all. i also now have a cold air intake that pulls from the right marker light hole, and very free flowing exhaust. and you may have seen my other posts about the hack job. the car weighs in at 2100 pounds. its fun. you should get one.
  11. has anyone ever had this problem: you're driving along in 2nd or 3rd, like 25 or so, holding your foot steady in one place on the pedal, and your car starts bucking and surging like it does when you kill it at a stop light, but your going like 25 or so and it goes away when you give it some gas? its like the car only wants to accelerate or slow down, no in between. does that sound like a tps problem? or would it be the auxillary air valve (which i dont have a clue about?) its a mpfi turbo on a high-comp bottom end, dr 5sp 3.90's. its done it since before i built the engine. oh it was an automatic when i got it. if anybody reads this whole thing and can help that would be cool. thanks
  12. got the top its frickin' SWEET here's a pic or two....or one since i already put the other one here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78505&page=2
  13. here ya go.... not exactly what you wanted, but close, right?
  14. itll be black bedliner under the stripe, and i havent decided for above the stripe, probly nothing. i have to have the machine shop press my u-joint into the rear driveline, which im using the front piece of the two-piece rear shaft, which is the exact length needed. i got the bikini top today, hopefully ill have more pics soon. glad you guys like it.
  15. so this was a 87 gl-10 wagon. high-comp ea82t dr 5sp. iwas going to take more pics during the chop but i forgot and got carried away. um still have to finish the front hoop and top crossbars, i have a snap-on vinyl beach top that ill put pics up whan i get them done. i still have to bob the rear which will be cake. im gonna cut it off at the crossmember between the gas tnak and the little storage compartment. then ill move the radiator to the top of the engine and bob the front. then ill redrill the hubs and put some like 26's on 15" wheels, not too big but enough for traciton. ill probly lift it a little, but it gained like 3" all around just taking all that weight off. but yea more pics to come. you might have seen it if you get to the g'ville area often. and one more thing: rain sucks.... for now...
  16. haha! avg 23-26, mostly in town and off-road. get 30 MILES per GALLON on the freeway..... gl-10turbo wagon 5sp 3.9's
  17. 87 gl-10 t-wag: just hit 170,000. that makes 8,000 on the Hi-C bottom end! wohoo... oh the trans has 255,000 and still feels great.
  18. yeah.. mines great! high comp turbo, lots o power. with a cold air intake they dont get hot. mine is a raging hot rod. so there. +1 on maintenance, though...:-\
  19. so the smoke was from sucking atf through the tranny vacuum line, which is now gone because i put a 5sp in.
  20. going on 5000 miles on the hi-comp turbo. lots of power! boost comes up 5psi @ 2200, hits 7psi @ 2600-2800 and pulls hard from there. 1st is useless, and 2nd usually, too. 3000 rpm @ 70 mph, passes in 5th without much effort. put a 170 degree tstat in and wired my electric fan on a switch since i dont have ac anymore. no p-steering either. i love it.
  21. so here's the long overdue update: 5sp in, works good. did the speedo-took the dash out, wasn't too bad. :-\ i practiced on the parts car:) i had to to take the at shifter apart to figure out which wires to jump. for the neutral start switch. what i did is soldered the two big black wires, one yellow stripe on white stripe, because that was the only way the starter would crank. i thought about putting it on a toggle switch I could hide for like a anti-theft device, but if someone wanted it bad enough, they could get it anyway. Only issues i had are, when shifting from 1 to 2, the shifter seems to catch like it isnt meshing or something, and when its cold it shifts hard in all gears, maybe wrong oil weight? 85-140 is what i have. also the check engine light now comes on after a few minutes whenever i drive it. doesnt seem to be anything in the engine. someone said it could be the tranny temp sensor that is not there anymore. last thing, dont laugh at me please. i forgot to put new fluid in the rear end when i put it in. i was driving on the the hwy and jmy back tires locked up and i heard a loud clunk. i spun off the road. then i backed out of the ditch that i luckily ended up in without rolling or anything real bad. i took the halfshafts off and drove it home. I havent taken it apart yet to see what i did because i need to drive it everyday. if anyone has a 3.9 lsd rear i will buy it from them, and i promise ill put new oil in it:-\ this is a great site and you guys area lot of help
  22. so on my ea82t wag, my vacuum line that goesto the 3at trans apparently leaks atf into my intake manifold, which really ticks me off, so i unhooked it and capped it off. the port on the manifold is where I hooked up my boost guage, with a "T" originally, but then i noticed the atf and took out the t and ran the guage line straight to the manifold, and capped the trans line. I dont have 3rd or reverse before this anyway, so i figured what the hey. before i unhooked the line, whenever i got stuck or idled for a while it would sputter and stumble and smoke like crazy when i got back on the throttle. after i unhooked it,this no longer happens. luckily i have a 3.9 dr 5sp to go in this (or next, more likely) weekend.... so anyway, has anyone seen anything like this before? also how do you change the boost? mine hits 7psi at about 2800, and stays there till about 4500, where it pushes its way to about 13-15psi. is this normal? can it be ajusted without any mods or upgrades? thankx.
  23. i dont know about non-turbo power, but my mpfi turbo gl10 came alive with mandrel bent exhaust into the turbo, straight 2.5" out of the turbo, mandrel bent homemade intake tube, did a little dremel work on the intake and exhaust runners(could have done way better, ran out of time) got rid of power steering and air conditioning (less power to the pumps+more to the wheels) havent touched the boost yet. oh and i rebuilt the engine with the high compression carbed 'case. =great off idle torque and huge power all the way to 6500 which is as high as ivce spun it so far.
