Will the cv's click when going straight? When I ordered my my cvs the guy told me cv's never click when going straight. He said that must be a wheel bearings. On thursday they broke completely and I had to get home in 4wd and it didn't make the click anymore. This is on my 88 GL Wagon BTW. 1.8 FI Auto. Just wondering what you guys have had happened to you and if I should put wheel bearings in when I change out the axles. Thanks, Joe

I'm going to pick up the XT6 in a few hours. I'm getting pretty excited!! I will keep you informed of what I find wrong with it. Thanks, Joe

Do you think it could be a front end? or maybe a transfer case? A cv joint would have given some prior warning right? when differential lock is on it will drive but only in rear wheel. When it not pushed in nothing at all. Are parts for the front end or transfer case hard to get? Also can I drive it like this(with the dirrerential locked) or will that just make it worse. Thanks,Joe

Busted hood release-How to break into hood?
88xt6joe replied to moosens's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just got up there with a coat hanger and put it through the hole for the hood latch and pulled towards the drivers side. Pretty easy. Joe -
What could be the possible problem with an XT6 AWD that only gos into gear when the differential lock button is pushed in. Won't drive at all(won't even go into gear) when button is not pushed in and locked. This is an 88 with AWD and 5 speed. Any ideas Thanks in advance, Joe

Is this a good deal? / Carfax
88xt6joe replied to 88xt6joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the carfax report Mr. Whirly. I checked the kbb value and it said about $2100.00 in good shape. Now to talk the wife into it. I've wanted a XT6 for so long. Thanks again. Joe -
I found a 91 XT6 for $1650.00. It looks to have all the options and is in pretty good shape for the WI/MN area(3 small spots of surface rust). It has 116,000 and is an auto and awd. The guy told me it just had a new oil seal and new CV joint on the drivers side. Can anyone do a carfax on this car the VIN is JF1AX9429MH301377 Let me know. Thanks in advance, Joe

How long do you think I have?
88xt6joe replied to 88xt6joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The boots are torn and I've been driving with it clicking for at least 6 monthes now but I never heard it clicking well driving straight until yesterday coming home. If they break you say I can just put it in 4wd and get around huh. Well thats cool. The axles won't bang around will they? Joe -
My Cv's have started clicking even when I'm going straight down the road how much longer will they last? Joe

My mileage has really stunk lately last tank I got 200 miles out of it. Joe

thought I had it fixed(cooling related)
88xt6joe replied to 88xt6joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would have to look into having one shipped. It must be the stock radiator in the thing and it has 181,000 miles on it. Joe -

The worst part is I only paid $150.00 dollars for the car and don't know if it is worth putting anymore money into it. Joe -
I thought I had my problem fixed(88 gl wagon with 1.8 fi). I put in a new thermostat(it has a jiggle plug and I boiled it to check for it opening), a new radiator cap, and tighten the belt. I even went on an incline and got the air out of the system(I thought). When it idles it can sit there all day and not get hot. Start going down the road and it starts to warm up quickly sometimes it will go back down and some time it doesn't. My wife was driving it to work tonight and it hit the red(at least she pulled over and sat there for it to cool down before going again). She said when she finally got to work and shut it off she said she heard a clunk noise inside the car(have no idea what that is). I guess all thats left is the radiator or water pump. Do you think its one of those. I see that the car has two fans even if the electric fan is not working in this 15 to 20 degree wether it should be ok right. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, Joe

Thanks You Guys - Problem Fixed
88xt6joe replied to 88xt6joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah I was hoping it wasn't a waterpump because, I've not chagend one on that car yet and with it getting cold I don't know how long it would take. Joe -
I just wanted to say thank you. After taking the time to go through all the old posts I got my overheating problem fixed. So thanks to everyone who posted something about overheating and thermostats. It turned out that my thermostat would not open and my car was getting hot. New thermostat and a new radiator cap just for good meausure. Just in time for the cold. The high for Tues they say will be -7degrees. Thanks, Joe

Got my Brakes Fixed(just really happy)
88xt6joe posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just wanted to post about getting my brakes fixed they locked up last Wed and it took me a few days to get the parts and get some stuff apart(gathering tools and such). Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts. BTW I found a caliper at a salavage yard only 7 miles from my house for only $15.00 So I fixed the whole thing for what the parts store want for just a rebuilt caliper. Thanks again, Joe -
Hope everyone get the subaru gifts you wanted for christmas!!! Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!! Joe

No I don't have access to a impact I wish I did I guess I'll try some more bar. I thought about heating it up. Joe

Any good ideas how to get the axle nut off? I got the 36 mm socket and a big breaker bar but it won't budge. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, Joe
-
I need a breaker bar!!!!! I got the caliper off(which is shot by the way) and took off the one brake pad that was left. But I can't get the 2 bolts out that hold the brake pad holder on and with out doing that I can't get the rotor off. This stinks!!!!!! Joe
