  1. Im not sure where I said the boost guage wasnt hooked up. And its on a dual range trans. A/f meter is in the near future.... Was at the junkyard all day. Will check these and get back to you guys
  2. I know where there is one of these sitting in a junk yard? Already out of the car. Felt to be in good condition.
  3. Can someone please help me? Any Ideas because I just dont know Are there any numbers on these to determine what they are?
  4. Ok so I was at a junkyard all day and couldnt get back to you guys on this. Ok my GL-10's rearend was a 3.9 when I bought the car. I bought a trans from a place that delivered it to my work. They claimed it came from a turbo car? I had the d/r trans in the car before I realized there was a difference in spline count. I had 2 new axles delivered to my shop in 20mins and dropped in the new 23 spline count and finished the swap. When I was test driving it and checking all the shift linkage and making sure it shifted smoothly between 2wd, 4wd-hi and 4wd-low, there was alot of binding. Not binding during shifting but when driving and or turning. I dont really know how to explain it. It would act like the rear end was welded up. chirping the inside tire and binding badly up front. I took it out on the main road and tried to drive it in 4hi. I coulndt go over 35-38mph. I was blown away that I couldnt drive it on the pavement at all. With my old single range set up, I had no issues driving on pavemnet up to 80mph. When I test drove it off road, it seems just fine on gravel, dirt, sand ect. My roommate works at a transmission/rearend shop and he went to work to ask some questions for me. He told me that what must be happening is my front diff and rear end are 2 diff gear ratios. Being theres 2 diff gear ratios and currently having a 3.9 rear diff. My logical option is to swap to a 3.7. I havnet driven the car in 4wd since I put in the 3.7 lsd. So I dont know if it changed anything. I just dont know what spline count each gear ratio is. Were 25 spline counts only used in turbo cars? Were 3.7 gear ratios only used in Turbo cars? Basically, is there a possibility that I have a 23 spline 3.7 or were they never even made? Well I heard from a friend that he read the post today and I need to read it. He explained it to me a little and I just went ahead and pulled a 25 spline count, turbo, d/r trans out of an rx coupe. It was the car I pulled the lsd out of so I know its the correct one. BUT what gear ratio is the d/r thats in my car now? Will it only mess up the diff if it is driven on pavement? or only offroad? That being said im going outside to actually test my new lsd. If I have issues or you guys say otherwise Ill drop in this new trans. Either way no big deal, no harm done. Thanks Jess
  5. Ok I have been hesitating to post because I really wanted to figure it out on my own. But Its still there and may just be the car eh? I did a few searches and it seems people are only having this issue w/ aftermarket turbos and IC? I really need help on MY application and feel the searches didnt really help that much. I dont really know much about these engines so here goes. I swapped the eng out about a year ago and havent had any issues. I used a newer turbo w/ perfect impelars and zero shaft play. Swapped out the timing belts and re gasketed the eng before I dropped it in. Along w/ plugs, wires, cap rotor, t-stat, water pump, ect. Ive got an aftermarket cone filter, 2 1/4 mandrel bent down tube and custom 2 1/4 all the way back w/ no cat or resonator. Nothing has been done to the up pipe. I have a boost guage and turbo timer for reliability. I am still running stock boost. I have a wrx intercooler that I am still mocking up piping for and before I raise boost to 1 bar I want to make sure the air is cooler first. I am also on a 3in lift w/ 27" tires. Ok to start w/ the symptoms. With timing set to 22deg BFTDC -When out of gear it revs very cleanly, at WOT all the way to red line. -First and second gear rev cleanly at WOT all the way to redline. -3rd, 4th and 5th will not let me go over 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with out feeling weird? (this is what im trying to explain/fix) -When in 3rd and 4th at WOT it FEELS LIKE (dont know if it actually is) it is boosting up to 7psi and then just dumping the rest of boosted air out the waste gate? -Even though I am at half throttle, I have plenty more pedal to give it but it will not accelerate past the point the guage reaches 7psi. -If I just hold the pedal down at 7psi it feels weird and doesnt fell like its still pullilng any more rpm's? -5th gear is too high a gear to really do anything but pull up slight hills and just fine on flat ground. The car runs great, It just seems like it really has an opportunity to run alot better. I feel like Ive done everything right, I just may be missing somthing. Thanks alot Jess
  6. I dont want to sound rude, but are you even reading any of this thread before posting, You can easily find this answear by just reading what I wrote in one of my first posts?
  7. No its not flat, its great for rally though! You would have to contact ft lewis though..... doubt they would let you rally there.
  8. I just took the whole diff assembly and dropped it in? Why swap cassings. It came from tacoma pap. I go threw water atleast halfway up my door almost everytime I go out. Which is often cuz I can wheel thousands of acres 5mins from my house Thank god for good door seals! But need a good turbo snorkle set up Jess
  9. Yes they are right about the breather. Yes I took off the bar for clearity and the bar kind of wraps around the top of the diff and had to be knotched to fit the extended breather. I was going to make a quicky mustashe bar but it was already like 2am and I just wanted to test the lsd today when I go out mud'in. I just had matching single range trans w/ 3.9 open diff. I just did a d/r swap and it changed my gear ratio and had to find a 3.7 to correct it. AND I found one -WHOOT- It came out of an 86 turbo coupe. Yes it will fit your 85 EDIT. Being that the mustashe bar wraps around the top Of the diff. I could never see the diff breather. I thought It a pressure style breather that only open when was hot and under pressure, relieved the pressure then closed. But its cheap plastic and was stuck in the open position. You could swap it out to a metal one and relocate it a little heigher if you dont ford water and it would function better. But if you ford water and dont like always changing your diff fluid or worse off pressing bearings, setting pinion spacing and backlash. A diff breather is the only way to go. I will be on the hunt for these till theres no more I can pull. If I find any, I always have tools to pull it and ill mail them out to whom ever. Going to test it out in a few hrs!!!!! <---------Happy as a clam!
  10. I had a great day today in a few different yards. I got everything I need for the interior of my brat. Will have keys tomorrow! And I finally found an lsd! It took a few months and looking under alot of subies. Here she is in all her $26 glory Couldnt resist, so I headed out to my shop to put it in and make my diff breather. For the diff breather. I drilled a hold in the floor under the rear seats and ran it through the floor/grommet (w/ sillycone) up the rear pillar to about head height.
  11. Buy a safe that is mountable. Bolt it in the rear compartment somwhere. Thats what I did On my last car. No pix. I am going to be doing this soon to my gl-10 Its where I leave everything important when camping, road tripping or snowboarding ect
  12. Im running 6ply coopers on my suby at 27od. There doing great.
  13. Wow thanks guys! That about sums it up. I will be getting the dash, heater stuff, accessorys, guage cluster, console stuff, and steering column stuff friday, saturday and or sunday. Oh ill be pulling fenders too. Im in the olympia area and again many thanks. Jess
  14. Ok so I got it today. Got it down to my shop. Its only got 90k and im the 3rd owner but its a little more of a heap then I thought. :-\ Its a late model 84 if not 85. The bad. WHO LET THE RATS IN! Somehow they got in and lived in the dash. YUK The p/o pulled out of the interior and dash. I dont know what goes where? Im going to a junk yard very soon to pull every thing from the steering wheel to the firewall..... So EVERYTHING is EXACTLY the same right? I dont know what type of guage cluster it is as it has no clear plastic or face on it? I think its the round guage ones? If thats one? Anything special I should be looking for? As a bonus. My boss is only giving me 30 days to get this thing out of the shop. I dont want to trailer another car to my house plus I cant have anymore "non running" cars there either So Ive decided to make it drive home! It really all depends on how this eng runs($750 crate eng ). He said it ticked pretty bad and needed carb work (obviously). When I crawled under it. It leaks pretty bad, so regardless a full gasket kit is in order. Is there any one oem carb that is better than the other, while im in the junkyard? The one thing I need is an ignition, drivers door and pass door locks and key.. I dont have any key, keys or anything for locking.. At all? GRRRRR 1st car ive ever bought where the guy has a title and no friggin key. Oh after all this. The price came down to $100. And being the 3rd owner the cars never been "gifted". So my bill of sale is "given to for parts" Thanks for all the help. Jess
  15. Ok so im picking it up for $150. I think its an 85 I will need all these parts at somepoint. There is little body work to be done but I will do the rest before I put it back togeather. Really? alot of work? Seems like a little, but not too much. I have a problem w/ completely redoing all my cars. I was thinking the problem would be availablity. Now I need to find em in junkyards that havent been scrapped? Oh He was going to sell it to someone else and that guy came and pulled some stuff off like the ignition but never came to get the car. I wish I had one even worn out.
  16. I am picking up a brat tomorrow. It is quite stripped inside. The outside is all there and straight. The only thing I need for the exterior is Both front fenders and a rear bumper, but ill build that. He had told me that there were rats inside at one point but damn, theres no interior. Which brings me to the questions. What on a brat and ea 81 subs are interchangable, as far as interior goes. Things I know I will need. -Both front fenders -Ignition and key -Both front seats -Lower dash panels -Steering column plastic -Guage cluster If anyone has any of these parts please let me know. Thanks guys. Jess
  17. I just did a d/r swap in my gl-10. It is very hard to get out of 4x on dry pavement. Im just looking for somthing more on the fly. Does it grind or do anything weird, to shift to 2wd while moving forward w/ clutch in? What causes the hard shifting of the lever? Too much binding on dry pavement? -So far, what works for me- Put it in 4low, back up to about 10-15ish, push in clutch and smoothly go all the way to 2wd. Or if you face your car up hill or back down a hill (even dry pavement) and push in the clutch, it should smoothly go to 2wd. ( I found this tip from a search on the forum) Or if you just gently hold down on the 4wd lever and bump the clutch in reverse a few times. You will eventually feel the groove and it will go into 2wd. Im just looking for somthing more on the fly. Does it grind or do anything weird, to shift to 2wd while moving forward w/ clutch in? 18. Im running Cooper discover Radial Lts. They hold up great and pretty quiet. They air down well too and were reasonably priced. So far Ive gotten really good milage out of them. Oh and there 6ply They look alot more aggresive in person. http://www.coopertire.com/html/products/tires_lighttruck.aspx?page=discoverer_lt Looking for the tires I found these. Wow Crazy stuff. http://www.coopertire.com/html/products/tires_lighttruck.aspx?page=courser_traction_lt
  19. I havent heard anything about a solid battery and or chargin system? The problem here is your only as strong as your weakest link.
  20. Ok cool. Ill pull them off the other eng I have and drop them off. Thanks again Jess
  21. I know this is for a different car but, I have an ea82 and want regrinds. I work at the end of the same building as Axle Transmission off M street (ive seen you guys pulling in before and talked to somone from Delta cam) Can I just drop it off and pick it up? How much for ea82 cams? Thanks Jess
  22. Im pretty interested, I have a really bad vibration up front, cant put my finger on it. Its only under load......... I have a few things to do yet. Havent been able to find an lsd yet, I need to do somthing about my intake. Im making a breather tomorrow and sealing a few things. Im lifted w/ 27's but still no low range. I just use speed to push threw it sux. It hasent failed me yet? Jess
