I just got a 79 Brat cause I got a great deal on it. It needs a new hub, cv joints, struts and brakes but the body and motor/tranny work great. My question is what years have the same front asemblies? I have removed the whole axle, lower ball joint, strut, hub/disc and am hoping to find a parts car that I can do the same thing and just mount back up. The guy stripped the drivers side hub and then tried to weld it so I'd rather swap the whole thing. Thanks in advance. Ken

about 5 years ago I was at the local subaru dealership, and saw a picture of an 86 or 87 subaru wagon that was at the parts counter proudly displayed. When I asked what the big deal was, he told me that the car was owned by a local salesman who brought it in for service since brand new, and it had over 796,000 miles on it and the block had never been gone into.........Subarus are amazing! Qman...I have e-mailed john but have not gotten a reply, can you e-mail or pm me his phone number? Northguy: I just might do the 5speed d/r.......that would probabbly be better............Thanks for the tip. Ken -
I am highly considering putting and ej22 and 5speed awd swap into my 84 Brat. It curently already has a 3" lift installed. and some other minor mods, but nothing big. I was thinking of picking up a whole car(legacy early 90's awd) for the swap. What all is involved and is it a major pain? Let me know. Thanks Ken

So whats the scoop Mike? Is he going to let those things go or what? Keep us posted. Ken

I would be into getting together and at least hanging out and chatting. I'm right here in your same town actually, along with one of my friends who just got a 84 gl wagon. Let me know Ken 301-8252 Thou shalt not spam to get higher postcounts. -
My buddy just picked up a 84 gl wagon 4wd, and when he bought it the digital dash is not working. What do we do? Is it an easy fix to keep the digital and fix it?(apparentally it all went out at once). Or should we switch it out to the stadard one, and if so, whats involved. Thanks for you help. Ken

Hey North guy, getting ready to put a lift on my 84 Brat this saturday. I have the same color brat and same pug rims as you, so basically, I know what my Brat is going to look like. What size tires do you have on there? any trimming of fenders needed? Ken

Ok, I have an 84 brat gl, and when I accelerate the right side shakes? It only happens when I am on the gas kinda hard like in first and second. I have new front cv shafts from auto zone. I actually thought that it might be the inner shafts so I swapped them with another set....no change, ball joints and tie rods are good, have had the wheels balanced and rotated and still no change, I'm out of ideas....any help is appreciated. Thanks Ken

Bummed I missed the good time. I was busy with Easter stuff. Next time hopefully I will be able to meet some of you guys and hit the trails. I have my wheels and tires, just need to lift it. Looks like a trail run with some good stories :-) I'm sure Adam will come up with a good fix. Ken

I'm thinking of getting an 82 grill from a wagon at the local pull-n-part to install on my 84 Brat. I wanna know how easy this is to install to see if it is worth it. I like the look and the fact that its something different, but not if its going to be a pain in the rear. I already anticipate having to trim the donor grill, but was wondering if the space for the light and all that is there. Let me know if you can help. Ken

I am thinking of picking up some pugs at a junkyard. I need to know if I should go with 14" or 15"? I have an 84 brat that I plan on lifting 4" and dont want to trim the fenders much, maybe only that front lower part. What size tires can I go with, the 15's have lugs and center caps, the 14's dont. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Ken

I have an 84 Brat, and when I accelerate the front right side wheel seems to shake? I have new front cv joints, new tires, ball joints and tie rods are good, have also had the wheels balenced 2 times. What could be a cause? Thanks for the responses. Ken

what is schwab paying you for the tires? This is Ken, I met you while you guys were lifting the wagon. I might be interested. Ken -
Well, a month ago, I picked up a 84 Brat gl that I got for a good price and is what I want. I got a call on sunday from a guy who wanted to sell me a 79 Brat thats straight, runs, has a new clutch, comes with a hightop shell, and a a-bar, and has the jump seats in the back. There is no rust, and the body is straight except for a couple tiny dings. I paid $460. Good Deal? I mainly got this to clean up and sell...what kind of money do you think I can get for a 79 brat thats straight and rust free, and comes with seats, canopy, and a-bar(are those interchangeable between gen 1 and gen2?). Let me know what you think. Thanks Ken

Thanks for the replies.........you guys are dang quick Ken -
I have an 84 Brat and am doing the disk brake conversion in the rear. I'm heading down to the local salvage yard and need to know what years are the right cars to look at. I know I have to find turbo models cause that is what had the disk brakes, but need to know what years will work. Thanks for you answers. Ken

Ok, I have aquired an 84 Brat, and am wondering what are a few easy mods I can do to generate some more horsepower for now, and what are some things a little more drastic that I can do in the future? If you could give me a list of the things, along with what kind of increase in horsepower for each item, that would be great. This board is great! Ken
