Well I'd rule out the O2 sensor. Either of the other two sensor's could give your problem. Check and clean the connectors on the TPS and coolant temp sensor. Also check the the idle bypass solenoid (also known as idle air control valve ) and clean it with something made for it, not everyday carb cleaner or lacquer thinner. Richard

The diagnostic connector is a pair of small single conductor black plastic connectors. They are a pair that mate for troubleshooting, to the left of the sterring column. They are somewhat difficult to connect to each other, at least on my 90 Legacy they are. Of course your idea of large may equal my idea of small. Richard

The other thing that bothers me is (if I understand correctly) the error code display's itself without any test equipment or without connecting the black connectors under the dash. Unless 93 is different than my 90 the codes should not display automatically. Either I am confused or 93 is different. If 93 and 90 are the same then the black connectors are plugged together and the car won't run right like that. Someone straighten me out on this. Richard

Where can I get a clutch unit (rebuilt or new) . Calls to local Subaru dealers told me the unit was no longer available complete. I have one I would gladly replace because the car is in excellent condition, just the AWD doesn't work right. Works fine on a lift and with the front wheels on a jack the rear wheels will push the car. On slipery road the rear drive does nothing , the front just spins. I have 2 Subaru's so i know how AWD is supposed to work. Richard

I bought my cleaner from the local parts independent parts supplier. Its made by 3M , a plastic cleaner and a plastic polosh. The 3M part numbers are 39010 and 39017. It cleaned the lenses on the wife's 90 F-150 and 90 Legacy quite well. The cleaner looks like real fine polishing compound and the polosh looks and smells like car wax. The results on our vehicles was a big improvement. On a friends Subaru it was less rewarding, but his lenses were real, real cloudy. I know my friend used polishing compound and a slow electric powered polisher and then the 3M stufff to get his looking good. I think he started with a scotchbrite pad on the polisher first. Richard

I recently bought a second Subaru. My 90 Legacy's manual says to replace the timing belt at 60K miles. My 2000 OBS calls for 105K before replacing the belt. They are both 2.2 engines, I assume the same engine. Were there changes made by Subaru, improvments in belt technonlgy...or whats the reason for the major increase in mileage before changing belts. What I'm getting to is they are both the same engine so do I really neeed to do the 90 Legacy at 60K. I know what the owners manual says,I just wonder what changed. Richard

Thanks All I didn't know if Subaru's wheels were different from everyone else or not. The lip the wheel cover attaches to could have been different than most cars. Just covering all the possibilities. A good set of used alloy wheels would be nice though. Gonna have to shop around for them when $$$ allows. Thanks Richard

The 2000 Impreza Outback has a problem with loosing and breaking wheel covers. Will aftermarket 15" wheel covers fit the steel Subaru wheels. I am hoping that Subaru wheel covers are the same as generic wheel covers and that Subaru steel wheels aren't oddly made in some way. I gotta keep some covers on the Impreza and OEM is fairly expensive. Unless someone has some 15" alloy wheels to part with reasonably, I got to use covers for now. Richard

I expect the tires to be within 1/4 inch . I guess a little more air in the old ones and a little less in the new ones would alter the diameters a small amount. If the tires originally had 13/32ths tread depth the drop to 9/32ths would be 1/4 inch. in diameter. I would expect tires on any car to not wear exactly even all around. Though I guess thats why they should be rotated. I dunno...maybe the cost of two Goodyear Assurance is going to be close to that of four of another brand. Richard

As luck would have it there is a small problem with the 2000 Impreza Outback I just bought. It appears one rear tire has been intentionally cut on the sidewall, deep enough I don't trust it. Would replacing just the two rear tires with the same size and brand be safe. The existing tires have about 2/3rds of their tread left and I don't want to replace all four unless absolutely necessary. I measure the front tires at 9-10 / 32ths tread left.I cannot find the tread depth of the tires when new (Goodyear Assurance 205/60R15). No idea if they are expensive or cheap tires either. Richard

I was hoping it would do Mp3's....but I'll just live without that feature, for a while at least. Just brought the Impreza Outback home. One owner, 132K, in right good condition. Only minor problem is many small paint nicks on the hood. Either a repaint or paint flat black on the front edge and down to the scoops and back to windshield. The inside door handles are stained from dirty hands, dunno if it will clean off. New handles (grey) would be nice to find. Owner recently did the timing belts (2.2L). Transmission fluid looks original because it looks like it needs to be changed. Oh well, now I gotta new toy...I got too many toys the wife says. Thanks for the replies. Richard
