Being 180 deg out the wrong cylinder will be trying to fire. No issues with interference. Just make sure the crank mark is either at 12 or 6 before removing belt. Remove belt. Let the driver side valves close.. Then rotate crank and realign driver side cam. Then install belt again O.

Interference started with the 97 MY. I am sure they still had 96 production engines in stock and used them first. They put them into the MT cars. They need all the gearing possible to move that ton and a half smartly up an incline/ O.

In NY an 02 can only have one monitor not ready and have no check engine light. As suggested, replace the air temp sensor. Clean the Idle valve ( search). Check for any exhaust leaks. Change your plugs if not done recently. After the repairs, clear and see what codes return. You may have to replace the front o2 sensor. Advise O.

These are 225/45-17 on my 96 Outback. 52 offset on the Enkeis.

use 205 56 16 as your size as you know these will fit. use 6..5" rim size and 52 offset for both O.

Resolved Made a rookie mistake. Took the alt off of another 96 I had and somehow mixed them up and brought the old one back. After deciding it had to be something I did, rechecked output and it was about 12 volts!!!! Finally got back to where the correct one was and swapped. At least I can feel my fingers again!!! FYI Advance Auto's testing does say past/fail, but it also gives an output amperage. O. .

I've checked the grounds and cleaned up a few. The battery was charged a few days before the real cold snap here. Checking now, the voltage is less than 12. So I am getting a new battery and will advise after I get it to the vehicle in question. The alt was taken to Advance Auto and tested. Thanks to all for their help. O.

96 Legacy 2.2 Battery and brake light came and stays on. Battery does not charge Both alternator and battery are tested and good. Fuse is good. As soon as it gets light I'll look for a broken ground. What else should I be looking for? thanks

Well I guess I didn't remember correctly lol . If you can/are willing to put a small hole in the ceiling, find a place where the beams cross and put a length of chain around it and secure with a nut and bolt. Of course the car has to be able to be centered under it. From 2004 until now, along with a comealong ,is how I've pulled at least a dozen engines. O.

IIRC up to 96 the spark plug wires are outside of the VC. From 97 on they go through the VC. There is a vin stamped on flat on passenger side of block. 10th digit is the year. T=96, V=97 and W=98. O.

The FSM's for the 96-98 EJ25D lists it as 9.5. O.

Didn't the 05 EJ go to DBW?, and therefore cannot be used. VVLS didn't start 'til 06. O.

Whenever I am ready to install an engine, I put a small piece of 2x4 on the tall side(actually 3 1/2) under both sides of the tranny housing flush with the edge. This allows me to catch the dowel pins at the same time clearing the engine mount studs so I can push the engine forward and catch a bolt. After I catch all the bolts, I knock the pieces out and lower the block right into the cradle. O

Normal. Lift and rotate the TC. It should make two drops as you do this. The tabs where the bolts go should NOT be more than a quarter inch (1/4) from the housing when fully seated. If in doubt continue to rotate and push in. A search may turn up some pics. O.

You'd have to have a good person inspect the heads to see if you can get away with just the short block. I KNOW you can use the EJ from 06- 09. Not sure how much of later years you can use. O.

You can check cars101.com for width etc. Outback struts would raise your center of gravity and advsersely affect how hard you could corner. Repalcing your worn suspension bushings would help get the ride quality back. Lowering on H&R or similar springs with new struts would help. Adjustable coilovers would let you tailor the ride height. 17" rims and tires would help to close the gap and in that case, 225/45 is the widest tire you can use w/o rubbing or rolling on legacy struts. see http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp Hope this helps. They make a special kit to redo plugs. Go to your local auto store. IIRC the kit is $20-25. All you will need is a heavy grease to hold the cuttings (explained in kit) O.

less work to helicoil the plug. Reliable and can be done in situ. O.
