  1. How does the strength of the 4sp DR in say...an 82 wagon compare to the 5sp DR in later (85+) GL cars...or the 5sp single range in Legacy's/EJ cars (yes I know about the different bolt pattern). Can a Legacy transmission be fitted to an 82 wagon (rear drive shaft/front axles)? Thanks
  2. I have a 90 loyale with 160k on the clock and the PB 4wd works fine. We've rallied the hell out of the thing too...so it seem to be a fairly robust system.
  3. Bring the piston to head clerance to a minimum (.030 or so at RPMs below 7000) as a primary means of increasing CR and you'll get surprisingly good detonation resistance. I'm running 11.2:1 on a 4 valve motor (stock 9.5:1) on 90 octane with more timing and no detonation. Stock pistons, stock cams...did it by reducing piston->head from .051" to .036"...the 2 valve chamber should take even better to such a mod as it has more quench area (I'm assuming...I've never had the heads off my EA82).
  4. Yes. There's an SVX for sale over on 3rd (?) and old steese (or something...past that mall where flannigans is) for 7 grand I think. It's in good shape...I'd go that route for a "fast" car. Nice to have 6 exhaust ports for your 6 cylinders. I've already snatched up the "parts car" that was included
  5. You checked out the one on Univerity just past geist as you're headed to the U? That one looks cherry and never seems to move.
  6. You need the QT plugin to view it. I have a MK1...it will be completed some day Have a 90 Loyale also...and a 76 olds cutlass...and a 01 Saturn (which sees most of my time).
  7. Tightened the plug that was halfway out, dumped some brake fluid in, a couple gallons of gas, took the clogged air cleaner out, jumped it...and she's off to the races http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/.Movies/retarded.mp4 Needs some tuning D/R 5 speed on an EA81...didn't know they did that. Chance that it will see an EJ33 in a short while
  8. One could just check the swaybar diameters to see if it's an RX or not. Like I said tho...that is 100 percent identical config to my buddy's car. Digidash, dual range 5, ea82t, air susp, power everything, checker seats...his is also an 85.
  9. Sounds like a ever rare "Turbo Traction" model to me. That is the EXACT configuration of my buddy's 85 turbo sedan...and it's not an RX.
  10. Based on the mediocre results I've seen here (even with high boost, different cams, etc)...I'd say it's shtty ****ty. When a turbo only buys you 18 HP it says something about your engine...
  11. Bitchin...I'll be on the lookout this summer...hopefully in my new 85 "turbo traction"...
  12. I've had 3 differentials in my saturn... Stock open diff. Phantom Grip with both red and green springs. Quaife ATB. The phantom grip keeps one wheel chatter down (when you do spin one wheel)...and works on really sketchy stuff (where neither wheel gets much traction)...but it isn't even close to the quaife. It's probably 10 percent better than stock if a quaife is 100 percent better than stock. With the red springs it was useless. Note that it NEVER "locks" like they advertize it to. You just get some friction on the spider gears. Any magazine that says the PG is the shiznit is being given lots of money to do so. Put your 300 bucks towards a real LSD and you'll be much more satisified in the end. some phantom grip pics http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/PhotoAlbum15.html some quaife pics (note that the place I bought it from lied whe they said they machined it to proper clearance...as we found out after driving the car...nothing rubbed till we put torque to the tranny...and then it was a nasty noise) http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/.Pictures/jewno/index2.html
  13. Your camera is better than mine http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/.Movies/jumps.mov
  14. Light blue (edited) loyale keep these type of comments off the board, thank you. --shadow
  15. you can keep this name off the board and to yourself, thanks. --shadow
  16. MK1 MR2 will romp a 914 in the twisties I don't think the EA-82T is the place to look for power...just save up for the EJ-20...
  17. Blacksilver saturn with busted front lip from shooting off the back straight I'll see if I can squeeze in some track time this semester (I'm over myhead in school atm).
  18. The loyale is in non operating condition... Last year with it and 4 blizzaks (best ice track tires I've had so far) I could lap the 3.5 mi track in a bit over 4 minutes. Track is 2.75 mi this year...and daaamn technical (esp in the FWD saturn). What time are you out there? I usually do homework all day sunday.
  19. My buddy here has a 85 "Turbo Traction" sedan that I am looking into acquiring to replace the loyale. I've seen that whte RX around too. There are a bunch of RXs down in the wasilla/palmer area too...
  20. The clock in the ol "dyke wagon" has never worked right. I think it was closer to 3am when we shot that. I spent a fair amount of nights last year out on the track.
  21. Good commentary to boot! http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/.Movies/jumps.mov I'll have to dig up the one where the guy in the back seat puked blood from not having his seatbelt tight.
  22. That's out on the south cushman swamps in fairbanks. Every year they plow a roadcourse style track out there. Max speeds I reached in the vid were in the 80 MPH range...3 straights on the track where I can reach that speed...the longest is about 3/4 mile. I'll have to find the daytime vid...and the jumping vid
  23. 3.5 mile ice track 1990 Loyale Wagon 4 Bridgestone Blizzak tires http://homepage.mac.com/dgiessel/.Movies/driving.mov
