  1. ok got the engine and trans in and bolted together and got the starter to kick on by jumping it i couldnt get it to kick over through the harness but i think thats because i didn't have the park safety switch on. Pics of tasty ej20H goodness Cheers R.
  2. One ground should be plenty for the ECM it would be a good idea to put at least 2 from the engine, trans to the body then one good one from the body to the - on the battery. Cheers R.
  3. Had another blowout on the legacy drivers rear and it was actually quite spectacular the tread completly ripped off and the tire blew off the rim sounded like a shot gun went off inside the car. It was strange because melissa (my gf) and i had went to sunnyside to get a bunny (she breeds bunnys) i decided not to take the freeway and take the yakima highway after the tire blew i got out and found that i hadn't put the jack back in the trunk so as i am getting back in the car to call for help this guy is walking across the yard of the house we stopped in front of after a second look i notice i know him from the speed motorsports motorcycle shop here in union gap lol i pull the car into his driveway and he lends me a jack to put my spare on. As we left i thought how lucky i am to just happen to blow a tire in front of a house surrounded by a vineyard in BFE and already know the guy that lives there lol small world. Cheers R.
  4. the i had the cross member in the car but when i went to put the engine in it sat in the mounts and was still 4 inches away from the trans i tried to get it to mate up but it was no go the crrossmember sets the trans to far back. Cheers R.
  5. Ok just got back from working on the brat pulled the XT6 CM out and set it next to the EA82T CM sure enough its a good 3 or 4 inches shorter than the XT6 one. With the engine out i test fit the turbo CM on the EJTT and it fit perfect on the passenger side i made a cardboard temp of the passenger side indentation and marked it on the drivers side then cut it out with a torch and the Turbo CM fit the new engine like a glove i got it drilled out to accept the XT6 control arms and bolted it all together at this point it was getting dark there is only so much work one man can get done at a time lol. But i have set a goal to have this engine running by the First of next month i'm crossing my fingers that i don't hit any more major obstacles. Once i get it running then i can start to assemble the steering, exhaust, wiring ect. Pics to come when i get something more interesting done Cheers R.
  6. right where the engine and trans goes together i am assuming you are talking about the bellhousing the only thing i can think of that would leak oil in that area is the "kidney" plate or inspection plate this is located behind the flywheel it will be either metal or plastic and is held on by a few screws they leak all the time on used motors and if the one on your engine is plastic it might be cracked if it is i might have an aluminum one i can sell you on the cheap. This is a simple fix but requires you to pull the engine then the flywheel and remove the kidney plate and use some good high temp silicone.

    Cheers R.

  7. lol thanks Earl im going to work on it some today get the crss member swapped out so i can mate the engine, trans back up and get it to turn over using the factory harness. cheers R.
  8. well worked on getting the trans in today good god what a pig that 4eat is and since the brat is an 89 it fits perfectly just need to make a trans mount i don't have one for a wide tunnel ea car just the narrow style might just take the ej and ea ones i have and make one that works still not sure. Then a minor setback and i am kicking myself in the rump roast because i know someone posted on it in this thread i need to swap out the XT6 cross member for a normal ea82 style due to the engine mounts being about 4 inches to far forward. So thats the update Cheers R
  9. Worked with the harness today got it kinda worked to where it will be when i put the dash back together and i actually found a JDM wiring harness for this so i can get the ignition wiring hooked up then get the trans plumed in and radiator i can fire this baby up or try to... Cheers R
  10. After looking at it more there are writeups on ej swaps, rear disk swaps, carb to EFI ect. Cheers R.
  11. Hey everyone wile looking for a wire diagram for my EJ20H swap i found this on the AUsubaru forums http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/ it has a huge selection of harness diagrams and FSM i just got all the info i will need for my swap hope it will help someone out. Mods can we get a sticky? Cheers R.
  12. I am using the complete harness this engine came with everything from the legacy all the plugs, fuse boxes (with fuses) down the the battery cables all i will need to do is splice the ignition leads with the stock ignition and plug everything in. I am going to be laying it out today i will get some pictures. Cheers R.
  13. worked on the G3 brat today and got the engine in all the way i danced a small jig quite like this but then it was getting dark so i had to bag it for the night and i forgot my camera soooo pics will need to wait till tomorrow. Now that i have it so it fits the next step is to put the trans in and start making the steering and breaks work. then fitting in the wiring witch is probably going to be the easiest part Cheers R.
  14. i'm not following the random pictures you keep posting i get they are EJ20h parts but not sure otherwise. Cheers R.
  15. wow i read this thread and you did a really great job with both cars sorry aboput the first one i had that happen but the new one looks great. Cheers R.
  16. I plan to wrap the down pipe with header tape and make a heat shield for it but it should be ok i won't know till i try Cheers R.
  17. Thanks for the support everyone in my research anytime i come across someone wanting to do this swap they are bombed with negativity instead of ideas on how to work around the obstacles. So on that note with a little brain storming with (bratsrus1) i think we might have figured out how to rout the steering and i will show you our idea with my mad paint skillz. Since this car is going back to an automatic where the clutch pedal once lived is now open and where the cable came through the firewall is clear of the turbo,The rack input shaft comes out at an angle clearing under the down pipe. So the plan is to shorten the steering column so it ends inside the firewall make a bracket to hold it in place and run a u-joint to run the steering shaft out the old clutch cable hole then another u-joint with a lengthened shaft to the rack, everything is pictured below in my perfect to scale drawing the lower steering shaft (yellow line) is going to be UNDER the turbo. Now i might need to notch the frame if the lengthened steering shaft hits but i wont know till i try it. So thats the plan so far i really think its coming along even only being few days into it lol again thanks for the positive feedback i couldn't do a lot of this without the support of the people on this board. Cheers R.
  18. well somehow the tranny drain plug in my legacy came out and i lost all my gear oil .... not sure how or when but i got lucky and caught it before i did any damage phweew. I am also glad to say i am making good progress on the EJ20H brat swap check out my thread for details http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=116818 < last few pages. Cheers R.
  19. uh thanks? lol Ok good news i got the engine in... well mostly it is in the landing pads on the cross member but not sitting all the way in to get it this far i had to um... modify the cross member so the up pipes will clear it i still have some modifying to do but its just about perfect. The remote BMC looks like it will fit just fine (on paper) but we know how that works out we will see. I am working on a way of modifying the steering to clear the down pipe and looking at it with the engine in seems like it will be simple the input shaft on the rack clears just fine but the output for the steering column goes straight into the down pipe, more on this as it develops but i think i have it figured out. Juicy pics straight off the digi for your delight. enjoy Cheers R.
  20. yep thats what the back looks like sans the 5 speed. Cheers R.
  21. Its looking great miles i like how you are going the extra step to fit the harness in, thats how i plan to do the brat keep up the good work. Cheers R.
  22. sure do and i can get you that part of the RQP but i cant go all the way up to the trim it would stop right about the top of the tail light but if it will help make me an offer and i can get it cut out for you. PS you have a PM Cheers R.
  23. Update ok here are some pictures... I took some measurements from my parts legacy (LHD) the BMC is closer to the engine than in an EA82 car so it clears the turbo but NOT the Vacuum Booster SOOOOO that leads me to this. http://www.wilwood.com/Images/MasterCylinders/Master%20Cylinder%20Photos-Large/260-10371-lg.jpg It's a remote BMC from Wilwood high-performance disk breaks it is a non booster set up the company says is designed to perform just as well as the factory BMC while giving you room in your engine bay. The turbo currently clears the reservoir but there is no room for the booster, with this setup the res. is only 2.35" wide giving me the room for the second turbo i won't have power brakes but thats not a problem and it saves on me having to relocate all the brake lines ect. still working out the steering I will post with an update for that when i decide what the solution is. My plan to get this car done is to build it around the engine. In all my research the main suggestion is to remove the second turbo and i even though when i got it home and unwrapped it to find out its still a 2 stage not a parallel i still want it to have two turbos so i hope you all enjoy this build thread as much as i am going to enjoy building it. Cheers R. Cheers R.
  24. nope the 3.3 is out and the EJ20H is in I understand the issue with the second turbo the plan for now is to move it as to keep everything LHD now i understand this might mean that it will stick through the hood and i am fine with that I'm Picking the engine up today  i will be getting more pictures of it and start stripping the Brats for grafting and wiring work. Due to searching the 4 corners of the internet i found enough info to use the full harness in my car so there is a small chance i might be driving it to the show this year and now that i have just about all the parts i will need for this swap and no current job this is my main focus and its making me MOAR PICS TO FOLLOW Cheers R.
  25. right should have checked the post date lol. Cheers R.
