  1. Yea, when u warm it up, how long do u let it idle. idealy u should let it idle for 5 minutes at the most, unless its really cold out. not good to idle for long periods of time. U could be loading up and running with fouled plugs. But it kinda sounds like a MAF problem. there is a procedure for testing it in the hayns manuel. On sertain terminals if u back probe with a multimeter on ohms setting, and blow through the MAF in the direction of flow the reading should go up. I think. Its been a while scence ive done it. But it should be in the book.
  2. Thanks dude. Yea I was thinking that or cut the EA81 rods then extend them with some square tube and weld the ************ out of them. Do u have any ideas on how to mount the 4 sp/dr to the EA71 tranny crossmember. Thanks Lawrence.
  3. What happens when u drive it and get it to full opperating temp. And how does it drive, does it have full power.
  4. M/B I thought u were talking about turbo motor. duh vacume advance on carbs.
  5. was the 6 in lift very different from the 4. did u have to mess with the leading rods. Iam using the EA81 front and rear suspension. but keeping the EA71 tranny crossmember. now they dont reach. I have some ideas but wanted to see what enyone els came up with. tell me how u did the rear.
  6. just clean it like u did with ur other one. I thing thats gonna be a chip mod though. U could advance ur cams a tooth. might bee funny. like varibal valve timing. couldent hurt to try.
  7. Ok so we have the lift almost done in the front. the EA81 engine crossmember is mounted in the brat w/ the 4in lift block. I had to use the EA71 tranny crossmember because the EA81 mounts totally different. So now I have to figure out how to mount the 4sp/dr to it. Then on top of that with the EA81 suspension the leading rods are about 4 in too short. So iam wondering if any one has any ideas on how to lenthen them. I would use the EA71 rods but there welded to there control arms. other than that things are going smoothly, so any input is very welcome. Lawrence
  8. I have both of those games. Rallysport is a little more realistic. I guess u could search for writeups on line. Ive been playing around with driving styles for a few years now. If u want I can tell u some tips for drifting and sliding cars around. I took 3rd in my first rally x. And bassic car control.
  9. Sounds like fun. But are u suggesting that yota's are better than Subarus. If u are than i would have to dissagree. Unfortunatlly my hatch is getting junked in favor of the gen one brat I just picked up. Witch is getting lift and the EA81 driveline out of the hatch.
  10. Yea, extream moods..... Bull************. Ive taken my 85 hatch (stock) places that guyes wont take there trucks. I cant count how many lifted toyota's I,ve pulled out of holes or what ever. It starts with learning how to drive. All these dudes in there jeeps and pickups can eat ************, because I can follow them up and down trails all day long. I would like to show vids but we always end up with out cameras. Soobs rock the noobs.
  11. My 87RX has 267,448 on it. crazy for an 87. The other day I looked at an 87gl non turbo that had 305,229. Soobs rock the noobs.
  12. Yes. They will most likley rub in the front. I am using a set of 8 spokes on my Rx. If the front brakes are at 50% or less they will clear. There are 2 different types of 8 spokes. there is an older version that have more of an offset. I think on older EA81,s. If ur using 8 spokes.
  13. Yea, I had a problem with that paticular one in my 85 hatch. That is the actual filter, the one under the hood is the seperator but is basicly a secondary filter. mine pluged up and gave me this hardcore high RPM miss bull ************. That was fun.
  14. Also check your fuel filters. They can plug up so easly.
  15. Sounds like a possible choke problem. check to see if its adjusted right. Have u ever rebuilt the carb. Sometimes when they get a lot of miles on em, they get dirt and contaminents inside. Look down the carb when its idleing and see if there is any fuel dribbling out of the secondary jet. If there is I would suggest a rebuild.
  16. Awesome thanks for your help dude. If anyone has anything to add fell free. Lawrence.
  17. Where did u get that square metal. We live in a house on the job property whare my roomate works and we have all kinds of scrap metal to play with. but on a seperate note I am going to put the tranny in and see what I can do with the steering. Thanks for your tips. Lawrence.
  18. I measured both engine crossmembers, and the EA81 from my hatch is about 2 inches wider then the one in the brat. the other problem is that the bellhousing on the 4sp D/R will hit the steering collum unless something is modified. I would like to use EA81 engine crossmember and front suspension so the front and rear wheels are the same width. Fun
  19. White smoke is usually related to water. If its blue smoke then its burning oil. But ATF is really thin, Ur probably burning off the ATF. Its not the best way to clear a stuck lifter. Ur far better off using an engine cleaner designed for that purpose. If ur burning off the ATF it should stop burning in a short time.
  20. Thanks for the info buddy. I thought that they might swap because on another thread they were talking about swaping engine cross members between two brats an 81 and a 78. But those 81's are border line gen one I think. That idea with the lift I think I'll try. thanks Lawrence
  21. I am pulling the EA71 engine and tranny and rear end, to put my EA81 hatch motor and tranny in. then I am going to do a 4 in lift. But I have to pull the EA71 entire rear suspension and swap it with the hatch, so as to do the lift. And I think that the engine crossmembers will swap too. If they do than I wont have to mess with the steering collum on the EA71, because the EA81 bell housing will rub the nuckel and not work. So if any one has anything to throw in fell free.
  22. I think that I know what needs to be done but any tips or suggestions would be awesome. thanks Lawrence
  23. I used the fel pro perma torque head gaskets. They require no retorquing. there on my RX with High compression block, with Turbo. So far they work the best. And the bolts are reuseable.
  24. Thanks for the help man, I'll give those a try if. I need yours I'll let u know I know of 2 XT's in the yard near me. Thanks.
  25. Ok so I need to find an adjustible set of front struts for the RX. I thought that my hatch struts would fit, but they only mount at 2 points unlike the 3 points of the EA82. My question is, what struts can i put on my RX that will lower down the front end. stock has too much positive camber. Adjustibles would be prefrible. Any help would be awesome.
