  1. One more question. What axles would I use for the rear? I'll have a ea82 rear diff mounted up and legacy hubs. Sound like a problem?
  2. A little off topic. But I have a 86 DL 4x4 5 speed wagon I'm gonna be selling soon. I just swapped out the motor in it and it seems to be running pretty good now. It needs a few more things to be road worthy. But I can finish it up if your interested.
  3. Sam's has the same program. Just call the number on the back of your card and they will hook you up. (Sam's Club employee)
  4. This reminds me of the Gen 1 Legacy turbo. Wagons were all autos and sedans had a 5-speed option. The dealership in Reno had a B spec legacy sedan. Way sweet, but not worth the $34k price tag.
  5. Yeah use the end caps from the 3.7 LSD. Thats what I used when I did the swap. Everything seems to be working fine.
  6. Im still a few months out. If you need the axles now, they are all yours.
  7. Great info everyone. Only problem I see would be how the tranny mounts up. Guess I'll have to get my hands dirty this weekend and see how everything lines up! How much for the axles?
  8. My climate when it's 0-10 degrees in the morning? HA It's cold up here Brian! I live in COLD Springs.
  9. Under the hood it says to use a genuine Subaru pre heater hose. All others could cause a fire. I don't even run them on my cars. I see no need. Are they still available at the dealer. If so, I might even go get one. Iv never noticed any at pnp.
  10. The motor in your car is a EA81. This motor is one of the most reliable motors Subaru ever made. Very easy to keep running. No worries of timing belts or any electronic gadget. I've had EA82's EJ's and my EA81 has out lasted them all. How many miles do you have on it? NVZeno has just about 300k and I have 178k. Yeah I run 3rd gear up hills, don't worry about running these little engine at 5,000 rpm all day. They can take it. I'm right over the hill from you in Cold Springs. Now I know what hills your talking about!
  11. Wow, I never thought of that.... I'll let it run longer and see what happends. Thanks for the tip.
  12. The first motor mixed coolant in the oil. But the 2nd one is blowing white smoke but I did not notice any mixing. Is there a way to test the intake? Or do I just need to remove the intake and inspect?
  13. Oh yeah. I dunno about transmission mounts and how they will line up. Also we would have to use GL-10 turbo axels right? Are they long enough to use in a legacy?
  14. Hey Nevadabob. Welcome to the board. I see your from Reno, NJ? I'm a bit confused, but if you are from Reno, NV I'm your neighbor. I also have a 84 wagon. My oil pressure runs from 50-70. It's normal for these engines. Your leaking oil can be from your oil pump, front seal, oil pan and valve covers. Those are the most prone spots for leakage. I replaced everything I mentioned and I don't leak a drop anymore. Hills are hard on these little ea81 motors. I can hold 60 up some of the steeper hills. You might wanna do a quick tune up. If you have any more questions about your subie let me know. Or have any problems I'm great with tools. Here is a pic of my rig...
  15. Argh! I dunno what it is about ea82's and blowing head gaskets, but its ticking me off. I have a 86 DL that blew a HG after it sat in my driveway for 3 months with out being started. Ok I said, I'll just replace the motor with a parts 85 wagon I have in the back yard. The body was wrecked but the motor only has 116k miles on it and it ran great when I parked it 4 months ago. I just finished swapping out the entire motor out of the 85 into the 86. Guess what? This motor blew its head gasket too. Just sitting in my driveway. I'm confused! Same problem with two engines at the same time. Maybe the 86's body is possessed or something. I dunno if this is a question or a comment. I'm just frustrated!
  16. I know this has been done. Mudrat fitted a ea82 transmission behind a EJ motor in a forester. (Forester_Ranger's I think) I have a 90 Legacy that I want a ea tranny in. I need the adapter plate, that’s a given. But I have questions about the rear diff and driveline. How do I convert the rear diff to 3.9 gear ratio on the Legacy? Do I just need to swap out the ring? Or will a ea rear diff bolt up to the Legacy? Also, I know the transmissions are different lengths. Which drive line would I use? Do you have any input Forester_Ranger? Thanks,
  17. Oh no, it happened again? Drain the gas into a gas can. Take a air compressor and shoot air through the gas lines into the tank. See if that clears it up. I’m sure it will plug right back up though. You might end up dropping the tank. Damn, what a pain!
  18. haha, ok I had to drive up the same rock! Go stock 86 GL! Only diffrence is Jibs could drive over it! Sorry dial up guys.
