1988 DL Wagon mystery electrical problem(s)
subieman replied to shihan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check the belt that runs the alternator and power steering. Maybe the belt fell off??? All the dash lights light up when the alternator dies. -
Will a Legacy radiator fit in a 86 DL?
subieman posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Has anyone tried this? My DL (ea82) is overheating on the freeway so it needs a radiator bad. I have a spare Legacy radiator sitting in the shed. Looks like it would fit. The Legacy radiator has no hole for the fan switch though. Any suggestions? Thanks, -

Wow I did not see this until today. Sorry I can't make it, my ea81 would suck stacked up against all your turbo guys anyway. I'm gonna be in Grass Valley tomorrow. I'll look 30 miles south west and wave! -
Why is this in the historic forum? Jibs you gotta keep this one nice! So the person you live with can NOT drive it!!!!! And no wheelin it!!

Damn! You were so close! Well, next time the conversion will go twice as fast. I hope u give it another try. I'm starting to collect parts for my conversion. Ick! Maybe I'll just go buy myself a ea82. Have your son check the board here for Reno meetings. We are due for a off-roading trip pretty soon and he is welcome to come along. -

Scott just got a management job at Barnes and Noble in Chico, so he's tied up making the big bucks. He hopes to buy a new Subaru soon though. And Shawn is hiking the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) this year. I think he's on mile 600 or something now. He thinks he will be in that area during WCSS so I might go pick him up and drive him home. -
If you want to do both offroading and daily driver I would go for the Ea82 87-89. Make sure it's dual range 4x4 and I would look for a FI unit also. I hate carbs. But if you just want a nice offroader go for a 80-89 ea81 Hatchback. I drive a ea81 wagon as my daily and it beats me up. Its small, noisy and uncomfortable. But it sure kicks butt off road and it's been the most reliable Subaru I have ever owned. Ea82 seems to be a little bit softer car mechanically but its much bigger and comfy. Just my 2 bits.
