  1. Well indeed it turned out to be the rear fuel filter. After I replaced it felt like a new car again, powering up the hill all the way to 60mph. woohoo Thanks for everyones help!!!!
  2. Thanks guys. I think I'll go the Kragen route to save a few bucks.
  3. Anyone have the Subaru part numbers for both fuel filters on a 84 Hatch ea81?? Is the filter on the fuel pump the same as the one under the hood???
  4. Wow thanks for all the great input!! I know it's the cat rattling. I used a hose, one end to my ear and the other I snooped around the engine compartment until it located the cat. Could be heat shields, but they look in great shape. Car has no rust what so ever. Looks like maybe a new exhaust system BUT before I do that I will replace the rear fuel filter! Any brand I should stay away from? I run premium gas from Sam's Club. Since I work there thats where I get gas. But it really does not matter what gas I get, it all tens to run the same. Thanks NV Zeno. Are you talking about Independent Auto?? I've driven by there a few times and talked to one of the mechanics once. Might be a good idea to see what they have to say.
  5. I just checked the compression, it's runnin 130 rear and 135 front. Sounds ok to me. Also I noticed that my cat sounds like a billion marbles are rattling around in it. Maybe this is my problem... plugged cat? Oh, and yes it will rev to redline in neutral. Thanks for the help.
  6. Brian I think it's time you upgraded to a house with a large yard. I made that mistake and now my yard is filling up with broken Subaru's.. haha You might need to rephrase your no winter in California comment to ... no winter in Sacramento.
  7. Well Brian, in 4 more years you won't have to worry about getting your car smogged. here is everything you need to know about calif smog... Calif Smog
  8. Okay, I have been trying to track down this lack of power on my 84 hatch 140k for quite a while now, and I still haven’t figured it out. When I accelerate in any gear the motor won’t go above 3500 RPM. It's like it runs out of breath. I’m lucky if I can reach 50 mph on the freeway. I’ve changed the dis cap, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter (not the one on the pump), coil... just about everything I can think of to fix this problem, but nothing has helped. Two heads are better then one... so please give me your ideas. I'm thinking fuel pump as my next culprit???? Thanks!
  9. Hey jermdog. It's good to see another local on this board. I'm just over the hill from you in Reno Nevada. A few of us get together and do some wheelin in the summer months. Your welcome to come along if you like. As for your lifter noise, my 91 Loyale gets that way when it's really cold out. But usually goes away when the motor warms up. I put some marvel mystery oil at my last oil changed and that stuff seemed to quiet my motor a bit. Later,
  10. I totally agree with you Erik R. SUV drivers drive way to fast. 65-70 on a snow covered freeway, I see it all the time. And of course they always spin off the road and crash into a telephone poll. I laugh pretty hard when I see them scramble out of there mangled H2 with a dumb founded look on there face. If someone wants to drive 35mph in the snow.. more power to them. They are being safe and they seem to care about the lives of other people on the roads. Have fun on your ski trip guys. I won't be able to join you this time. Work calls.
  11. ahhhh thats to damn cold. I thought 5 degrees was cold when I woke up this morning here in Nevada. Sorry dude
  12. Yeah I don't think its too old. When I had my 2000 2.5RS it has the same battery as pictured. With the service holes and such. I don't think I ever had to fill it.
  13. OK, I'll check those wires. And it's not going in to 4wd when the light is on. Thats why I thought that post was irrelevant. Thanks!
  14. 5-speed push button 4wd wagon. The 4wd idiot light on my dash started to flicker on and off the other day. So I figured the 4wd was on the fritz or something. When I pushed the 4wd button I could feel the 4wd engage. Soooo at least I know the 4wd is not engage when the button is not pressed and the light is flickering. Today on my way to work, the light just stayed on solid. What the heck do I check? Must be a wiring problem, but where do I start looking first? I hope some of you can help! Thanks,
  15. Well when I bought my Legacy with 90k miles I was getting around 25-30mpg. Got 33 once. But now it has 210k on the clock and I'm lucky to get 20mpg. Summer seems to be worse with the AC on. But hey, it still runs and I love it so!!
  16. Yup count me in. Tee shirts and a hooded sweatshirt. I wore my old ones out already. And I like the decal idea also.
  17. Snow boarding... pffft! Whatever happened to good old skiing. I'm more of an ex cross country skier myself. Maybe I'll take up the sport again. I know a few people that can get me some free passes for Boreal.
  18. Hey Scrub2k, don't you remember like 2 weeks ago when we got 3" of the white stuff? I never made it into town that day, so maybe the valley floor did not get any? We gotta meet up so I can see your ride!
  19. Brian there are so many Subies in Nevada County it's not even funny. But I guess none of them have stumbled onto this board. We need to make up business cards or something and stick them on peoples windshields.
  20. Yes I highly recommend this mod! Well it's not a mod, more of a fix from Subaru. My loyale was smoking really bad on right turns. I installed this PCV kit and the problem went away! Your local subaru dealer should have one instock. If not pull the PCV kit off a 92 or newer loyale from the junk yard. Good Luck
  21. Thanks for all the suggestion. I'll run some cleaner through the gas and spray some carb cleaner. And see if that helps. If not I'll replace the fuel filters. I hope this is all thats wrong. I'll pull a plug also and see how that looks. Is there anyway to test the exhaust system without pulling it? PS. It's been backfiring a lot latley. Could that have destroyed my cat? And how would I fix the backfiring problem?
