  1. Durring the last snow storm my car dident do too bad but this storm sucked! We got iced then snowed on. Kinda funny becasue you guys up north really got hammered bad. Were almost all melted down here.
  2. Do any of these yards have any late 93 Imprezas? I still need to find a radio/shifter console cover for my car. Seems Ive got a late 93 only peice since early 93 the older style body and 94 are different. I'd gladly make the trip if thye have one.
  3. Thanks for the replys! I did do a complete tune up minus the PCV valve this summer but I got some of the new E3 plugs for it yesturday. Looking at the NGK's I put in just a few months ago the plug I pulled from #4 cyl has quite a bit more wear, to much for only a few months and 4K. The car actually does run better with the E3 plugs. I'll bump the oil weight up and replace the valve cover gaskets this weekend. So whats the deal with the PCV valve? Ive heard this mentioned on this board before about only using the OE valve. Are the aftermarket replacements rated at a different vacuum level or what??
  4. Hey all havent had too much time to hang around lately. The car is still doing good for the most part but Ive noticed a fair amount of oil consumption as of late. The engine did great the fisrt 2800 miles with the M1 5w 30 with absolutely no oil loss but close to 3500 I was a quart down. I added a quart of Lucas to the oil since I know 5w 30 is a tad light for these engines and 1000 miles latter I'm a pint low. I get no noticeable smoke durring operation and my garage floor is spotless. I do see a small amount of oil sweating from the VC gaskets but it doesent drip. I'm going to change the oil soon but was wondering what weight I should use in this 139K engine? Also is there anything I can do to give this car a little more grunt other then dropping 2K on a turbo or swaping in a manual trans? I did gut and pipe the rear converter and it made a slight improvment in the upper RPM range but nothing worth the effort. I would never expect the car to run like my firebird or truck but dang an automatic Geo Metro has more low end.
  5. Most FWD cars have a tow range of 12 miles under 30 MPH before transmission damage occurs, AWD's produce more heat since there is more drag on the internal parts from both ends. Anything with an automatic used for towing should have a cooler added with a rating of double the GVW especially for a transmission that uses a lockup converter.
  6. Hey all havent had many issues with the car as of late, trans is working good still and the timing belt tensioner is still in place. Ive now deceided to tackle a vibration problem that is very noticeable above 55. It feels like a bent rim so I swaped the wheels around every which direction with no luck. One would think the tire place would have noticed a bent rim when they did the ballance so thats out.... I guess. I was told since this car has an aftermarket CV shaft on the PS front that it can be 180* and cause a vibration since one aftermarket CV will fit either side? Does this sound like a possibility or should I keep looking? The vibration does not dissapate at speed in nutral either. Thanks :-\ Clint
  7. I'm just curious what to expect for fuel economy with my 1.8L AWD auto? I just did a tune up which it has never had, ever! It seems to have helped quite a bit over the avarage of 20 MPG which was mostly city with the ac on full blast. I really had hoped this car would get closer to 30.
  8. I just did the trans in my car. I could not remove either A arm so I just disconnected the two strut bolts on both sides. It gave plenty of clearance to pull the axles free from the differential. It's much easyer this way and you do not need a strut compressor you only need one when you are actually replacing the strut and need to hold the coil.
  9. There was aluminum on the threads of the bolt. It was most likely left on the bolt when the helicoil was installed whenever that was. Yea, no kidding I am glad the sparkplug holes are ok. Good thing about these engines spark plugs are easy as cake to change and I guess if you needed to helicoil a hole it wouldent be too bad access wise. Still I'd rater not. Well I was able to get it going. I found another bolt with coaurse threads. It went in nicely with the helicoil already in the block and got lots of locktight. The car was a tad more power now. Engine wise it always ran good even with the wipsed plugs but now I need to flush whats probaby the OEM coolant out of the system. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the replies! I dug out the mirror today and glanced in the hole. It has a Helicoil in it now! I guess at some point in time some one did put a timing belt in the car and ruined the threads! I'm glad it wasnet me but still. I'm going to attempt to put another in and JB weld it for good measure. It must have been at a dealership too since the belt that I pulled out is a Subaru belt. I just wonder why no one has changed the spark plugs until now. Hopefully everything works and the fuel economy picks up a tad. I'll let you all know what happens good or bad!
  11. Hi all! I'm new to the fourm and just got my Impreza 1.8L AWD a few months back. Ive already put a transmission in it which was bad when I got the car. Today I decided to do a tune up and replace the timing belt since it no one has done any sort of maintence at all to this car in its 130000 miles. Still had the OE plugs in it too.:-\ Anyway The bolt that holds the tensioner pully for the timing belt was freaking tight. I got it out and it looked ok but did had some aluminum stuck on a few threads. On install it would not tighten back up but did seat all the way. Is there anything I can do get this fixed short of tig welding the hole and re-taping it? I'd really hate to have to got through all that trouble if it can be avoided. I'm tempted to locktight it or use some JB weld to holt it since there doesent seem to be any side to side movement but If I did that I dont think I'd trust it too much. Thanks! Clint
