  1. What is the normal oil pressure (engine at operating temp) on an 86 with a touch over 100,000 miles on engine, at idle and running down the highway?
  2. What is all involved in converting one from single to dual speed? Do you have to change out the whole trans or is it a seperate part?
  3. Thats wild, in front of the tranny is hi/low. Good to know. Let me get this correct. If it is a manual trans in will have hi/low? If it is an auto it could have either single speed or hi/low?
  4. Are all 86 Subaru GL wagon t-cases dual speed (high/low)? Glad to see the forum back up. Thanks
  5. I thought this was kinda cool, just don't look at the price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3167677235&category=44029
  6. Yes, Happy New Year to all also a big thanks for all the help. <I like this dude. See ya Next year.
  7. Yes, I know what you mean by maintaining and old vehicle. I own a 33 year old Ford pickup that I eventually want to do a frame up restoration. Every once and a while it becomes the truck of many names, but I won't give it up for anything. It is a very dependable rid if I can keep gas in it. I just don't want one that sits in my way broke ninety percent of the time.
  8. WOW interesting. I will have to keep my eye open in the future. I am one of them people that is always a day late and a dollor short. I am wanting to get a dependable turn key. I just don't have the time right now to be fixin stuff. The cheapest runner I have ran across now is $600. It was pretty ruff almost nasty.
  9. OK, good info to know. So, where does one find such deals on rust free subarus. I am game.
  10. Well we descussed the no power issue and rust and a couple other small issues. Should I check other critical problem areas that are in this era of Subarus? I am looking at an 80 and an 83 also.
  11. WOW, Not to many places left to talk about. Any of those areas I should be real concerned about? I am not much into skidding down the road on my butt while holding onto a free spinning steering wheel.
  12. What are the typical rust areas on an 84 wagon? Structural or nonstructural? Be descriptive, I am not yet familiar with this model yet. Should I be concerned with certain areas? How about 80 - 83, pretty much the same. Thanks Qman, thanks for being so helpful the other day. I am still considering the 86.
  13. OK. I am doing the instant message thing with my dad, so when I am done I will give you a call.
  14. I notice a lot of the Subarus are lifted here. How DRASTIC does that effect the gearing once you have put the bigger sized tires on? Highway and trail speeds? Do you need to regear? I 4x Jeeps and I never pictured a Lifted Subaru w/ 27" or bigger tires out running on the same trails I am on.
  15. The hatchback vs the wagon. HHmmm, I am guessing the hatchback is the two door version? I am wanting the most room I can get. A 4dr would be great for me. I like to put my MTBike and gear in the back. I am not much into doing the roof rack thing. What is the difference with the hatchback and wagon? Keep the info coming. I am taking notes. I am going to look at an 85 tomorrow. From talking on the phone it is in decent shape, runs well, new clutch. $990 big ones. How many miles can one of these typically go before rebuild? Thanks
  16. Hi, Newbe here. I am in the market for a Subaru. I am looking for one in the late 70s to early 80s, 4 dr wagon, 4X, manual. Any sujestion, pointers or info would be great to read. Or point me in the right direction to one for sell around the Bonney Lake, WA area. I do have my eye on an 84 right now. Thanks
