OK...I got the tool for the ring nut. I bought the last one they had in stock. Any two issues so far. The bearings I bought from rockauto do not resemble what was in the car. However, it looks like the right size. The original bearing had a 3-part race, and the bearings had a spacer. The replacement bearing has one long race, and each bearing has "half" of that spacer. One issue is how much slop should there be when reconnected. I'm trying to move the last bearing into position, and I cannot see if I am bottoming out. Usually you can hear it...but I didn't...it feels to move in and out a few mm's... Second issue is that I cannot disconnect the rear cv axle from the other side. I have been spraying it with PB Blaster...but no movement yet. Thanks in advance!

I added about 700 pounds to rear end of a 92 loyale SW. It's an electric conversion: http://www.evalbum.com/2629 anyway, does anyone know of an inexpensive way of finding a stronger rear coil spring? Thanks!

Subaru Pin Wrench Socket SU-022
micgolub replied to micgolub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's to remove the rear wheel bearings. I all ready did the work around... But I'd like to try to do it this time with the tool. thanks -
Where can I purchase a Subaru Pin Wrench Socket SU-022 from? thanks
-
OK, do you have a part number for the tool, "ring nut socket"?
-
I was able to change the rear bearings out of a 1990 Subaru Loyale. I didn't use a "ring nut socket" I just hit it with a punch to get it going. Do they make a univeral ring nut socket or is there a specific one for subie?

Hello I have a 1983 GL Wagon - Automatic (4wd) It makes this awful noise in the rear. I think it is the wheel bearings, only because when I jacked up the car...I'd move the wheels from side to side and there is some give. But could it be the rear diff? There is no difference in the noise when the car is 4wd or 2wd. I'm trying to avoid changing the bearings and then realize it was the diff. Thanks

83 GL with broken tie-rod?
micgolub replied to micgolub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hello, Thanks much. I'm assuming the growling noise are from rear wheel bearings. SO I guess I'll do those first? Would the differential make much noise? -
83 GL with broken tie-rod?
micgolub replied to micgolub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
UPDATE: I replaced the ball joint, and CV axle. And drove the car. Not bad for sitting for 3 years. I like the car because it has 125,000 miles on it. So the rear bearings need to be replaced. I did a similiar rear bearing job on a 1990 Subaru Loyole. http://www.evalbum.com/2629 Anyway in this 1983, I do not see any rear coil springs? Can someone let me know if they are supposeded to be there in a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon. If they are missing perhaps that's why the bearings went, or someone couldn't get them back on in trying to do the repair? Thanks! -
I was trying to figure out which standard tranny exited in the 1975-1995ish cars

Hello I found this chart for automatic transmissions: http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=2&Category_Code=subaru-lookup Is there one for manual trannies? thanks!

I towed the car with a toe dolly. In the process the drive shaft came out. (This an automatic) ANy idea of much work is involved now? My second question deals with manual transmissions. Was there a list somewhere of which one was used for certain Subaru's? -

I was looking at donor cars for repair parts. Are the front end similiar in a manual 82 Hatchback and an 83 automatic wagon? -
Hello I saw an 83 GL 4wd on the side of the road with it's front driver's side missing. I called the owner, and said I could have the car. He said he was having axle problems, and the wheel fell off. He said the wheel went to the other side of the road. I put the spare tire on, and drove it about a mile, when I noticed that the tie-rod was not connected on the bottom. Does this sound common? Thanks
