Even though, you didn't ask, I second getting an extra set of wheels. My preference would be for 16's, the extra set will pay for themselves within a year. And any dedicated snow tire is going to do great. Check tirerack pro reviews to see if one excels in a particular type of condition you will see a lot (standing water, ice, etc...) Also tirerack will mount & balance the tires along with installing the sensors on the wheels if needed and the whole thing gets shipped to your door ready to be put on.

Or go ahead and take the covers off and leave them off so future maintenance is much easier.

93 Subie crank pulley unscrews itself
Virrdog replied to kklsmith's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Rope in the cylinder and bump-starting it to tighten a bolt? Wowsers! I put the car in 5th gear and set the parking brake. Crank on it with a 3 foot breaker bar. You have to really put some muscle into it. -
I detest aftermarket shocks for the rear gate. I bought mine and they mounted fine, but they only have 90% of the force needed to hold the gate up! So they only work on the hottest days. Well, until I pulled the rear panel off, the 4 lb difference means it stays up most of the time now...

Ouch! I feel for you

From the looks of the results, I'd say he did his "right", too. Maybe you want to do yours more thoroughly...

1993 Loyale with ONLY 9k miles!!
Virrdog replied to Virrdog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also has the lovely automatic seatbelts. Nothing else screams early 90's more than those contraptions! -
Hmm, if there is nothing that sandwiches it in coolant flow... I would leave it off. You would really need a thermostat of some sort that keeps the oil out of that radiator until it needs it. And you should rarely if ever need it unless you are using maximum horsepower or torque for long periods of time. Pulling a trailer up a mountain, road course race track...

I can't believe how glossy the paint is. And you guys are such downers... old plastic bits and a missing radio knob? Let's go see what's wrong with yours, lol! Somebody bid the thing to over $1000, so I'm out! -
I am not selling this car, but I thought people would like to see what their GL/Loyale would look like if it was caught up into a time capsule. Even the clock works! :-p http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/120895548794

They also act as an oil heater when the coolant temperature is higher than the oil temperature, which happens every morning when you drive it. And getting the oil warmed up faster is much better for your engine. So there are really no downsides to it, except for maybe a couple more spots for a possible leak

From what I understand, you should be able to just replace the headgasket. The cylinder would not pressurize because the air could sneak into the coolant passages. Personally, I would replace the clutch while it's out. And check the input shaft snout for grooves, they make a sleeve out of harder metal that covers it. Then a slightly bigger throw-out bearing will ride on it. It fixes the "catchiness" of the clutch pedal motion if the snout starts to groove.

ea82 loyale blown headgasket?

Awesome! Did you take any pictures? I am about to do this on a car that had an original radiator from late '80s until replaced last year. -
I had the door chime deal happen to me, can't remember exactly what it was, but I remember needing to replace my alternator and battery on my Brat. Oh, and there was a wire grounding out for the tail lights one time, weird stuff would light up when I hit the brake pedal. First thing I would check is grounds. Make sure all your major stuff is grounded, and if you are not sure... add more grounds. Run them all to the same point.

Woah, is this just with some silver paint? That looks like it's brand new OEM!
-
Ok, I have to admit that that roof liner looks awesome!
-
Awesome, then I can bring my wagon down for you to do.

Aahhh, ea81. Oops. Did not realize that. Yeah, I remember the dash speakers from my Brat days.
-
I don't remember exactly from doing mine a while back... but I am pretty sure I just put some 6.5" speakers into the front and rear and just called it a day. I still have the factory speaker fabric in front of the speakers up front (barely) with a hole in the plastic grill cut out so the tweeters can protrude (into the fabric). Don't remember needing to do much in the back, but the rear speakers I put in were much shallower than the old school Infinity Kappas I put up front. I also ran new 12 gauge wires to all the speakers and have them amped. That was a fun job... But now the car is completely amplified and my head unit has an option to turn off its internal amplifier, pretty cool to blast a cd as loud as you want and when you eject it, it's not all hot (for the very rare times I listen to cds, hello USB!)

Looking good! Makes me wish my dash was cracked... so I could do something about it.
-
Do you have Bulldog adhesion promoter? I guess I did not think about the vinyl part. If you scuff it up good and use Bulldog, it should stick.
-
I would hit the dash with some high build primer, too. And give it a final sand before putting on the flocking.
