  1. Ok, finally got the right axle for my non-turbo and got it installed. Beautiful! No shaking or noises and I won't have to worry about that axle for a loooong time. GCK is definitely the way to go, just make sure you order the right one. :-\
  2. I must admit, opening your hood and the spare is sitting there throws lots of people for a loop!! And then they put the spare in the trunk starting with the EJ's... no longer a Subaru!!! [/sarcasm]
  3. I have found in a lot of cases that the transmission mount will contribute to synchro woes... don't ask me how. But keeping everything lined up in the drivetrain is important.
  4. Dude, I know you're young. But you have waaay too many posts to do stuff like this. Look up Sea Foam in just Old Generation and you should find enough posts to be reading for a week. Then you can come back with new original questions... if there are any left.
  5. And what are the chances of that happening... as opposed to swerving and losing control just to hit something else harder, larger, and more lethal. I think its good practice to drive straight at animals. My reflexes will be better trained for deer incidents. Plus you can just call it Darwin at work if they don't move. I think it was North Carolina that did a study on deer accident mortality. You were like 80 times more likely to die by swerving than just hitting the stupid animal. Its very rare for them to come through the windshield and cause a mortality. Trees on the other hand don't give a *********73 and will just kill your butt.
  6. OEM is on the right. Which would you rather have in your wallet?
  7. Yeah, that's an awesome find. I got 4 brand new tires for $5 less, will cost $20 to get them studded and thankfully I have a hook-up for getting them mounted. Still looking for an extra set of wheels, though.... I'd say your ahead by a mile!
  8. I know animal lover people that will lock up the brakes to miss a squirrel Me, I speed up and aim directly where they are... because by time I get there it should be where they aren't. Statistics, the theory of relativity and the chaos theory support my methods.
  9. Awesome thread. My wallet starts to hurt just reading it!
  10. None of those series run 185/80 profile tires either. On a street tire with street tire construction, generally the less sidewall, then the less sidewall deflection, smaller slip angles, etc... Race cars can also have rock solid sidewalls at whatever aspect ratio they need to run for other reasons because they don't care about ride quality. And most are limited in the rim size they can run to limit the size of the brakes, but they still need a certain overall diameter for effective gearing/top speed. That's a highly regulated portion in a lot of top-tier motorsports, you don't know what they would run if they could. It was a general statement that has a lot of truth in street tires, I don't see where anybody mentioned running rubberband tires...
  11. Does anyone have a picture of what this looks like? I have an '89 and I think its missing pieces or something.
  12. Unfortunately, what a lot of people on here think as quirky or rare... is not. Someone with lots of international automobile mechanical knowledge (not me), would be able to point out how most of the things we like think are rare... is used commonly by other car companies. Ex: boxer engine. Ummm... used by Porsche in every 911 to begin with and lots of other cars, not to mention Honda in their motorcycles. We love the cars and they are different, but they don't have to achieve some superior status of special :-\ . We know the formula that makes the Subaru we like, but they have and always will continue to change that formula over time. That's why we have old gen and new gen fans. Some wouldn't touch an EA and others are confused just looking at an EJ. Just like what you like. I'll be happy as long as Subaru keeps offering the turbo engine!
  13. New tranny mount might help out the problem. Check to make sure no exhaust piping is near the crossmember that can come in contact with it. Probably not, but I have a similar noise, but its from a 3" pipe fitting where a 2 something use to be.
  14. I would almost definitely pin that on the battery or battery connection. Clean up all the contacts like the other people mention. I had this happen in my '89 wagon a couple of weeks ago. The negative battery terminal was just not square on the post apparently. Caused a no-start with weird conditions. If the connection is not the problem, go ahead and buy another one. That way you have the funky one as an emergency backup.
  15. It has nothing to do with backpressure, that's just a side effect of smaller piping. Its all about the exhaust gas velocity.
  16. At no point should a N/A exhaust get larger than a previous length of pipe. So whatever size it is at where you are replacing it, just do the same size all the way back with less restrictions.
  17. Haven't a few people carb'ed EJ engines? Mmmm... dual carbed EJ motor with a blower.
  18. I have one that I have had for longer than any vehicle currently in my driveway. Its on its 3rd or 4th car. I bought it years ago when I still had my Brat.
  19. Sorry about that, I didn't know she was in the car you wanted to work on. She should be home by now... :-p Sorry, the door was just too wide open on that one
