  1. Thanks daeron. Got the drivers side head off to check if it was the h/g giving the low compression readings and no, the h/g is in good shape:banghead: . Guess I'll be having to tear down the whole dang thing to get the compression issue fixed on the drivers side:mad: . Funny thing is it was BOTH cylinders on the drivers side reading ruffly the same reading:confused: . Oh well. More oics for ya'll. The combustion chamber- The cylinders- I noticed that the intake bolts on the drivers side were kinda rusty, but don't know. The valve train is nasty looking like water got into it so maybe the intake gasket blew and not the heads??? New too Subies and all their goodies, but I've got 'til January at the earliest to get this thing on the road so plenty of time to work on this. Funny thing though, all the bolts for the intake and heads were nice and did NOT require PB Blaster or anything, just a breaker bar to loosen the torque. Kinda nice, but at 115K miles no surprise I guess, even after sitting since '01ish.
  2. Daeron, I was planning to use the Deltacam torque cam to help with torque on the Brat. I'm not expecting anything super duper, just something to help it move along better with a 4/3 lift. Bratsrus1, thanks man, you just burst my bubble (j/k). I found a guy who is willing to help me rebuild it after splitting the case so we'll see what happens. If it gets split, I'll add the EA82 pistons and all the other goodies while I'm at it. Just gonna have to take it slow and easy and let the finances dictate what happens. Thanks Guys.
  3. Forgot ya'll might want some pics of the Brat so...... Not bad for trading an 86 EA82T drivetrain and Air Suspension (minus rear disks of course:grin: ).
  4. Well, since my Brat is "car locked" and the owner of the cars is Out Of Country for a while and my Brat engine got pulled before he left, I FINALLY was able to bring it home and am going to tear it down for a reseal and what not. Did a compression test after pulling it and the drivers bank read 45psi while the passengers bank read 90ish psi, and the fact it's been sitting for some number of years, I figure to kill the boredom at home I'd tear the beast apart and keep myself busy. The only thing I hope I don't have to do is spit the case, but everything beyond that is going to get looked at and redone. Going to get a hold of http://www.deltacam.com/ and have them do an RV grind for me and all that goodness. Maybe even do the SPFI swap while I'm at it. Any who, here's pics of the Engine in the back of my 86 GL, one of the temp stand for compression testing and the empty bay.
  5. You should add these to the poster post Scott has done in the off road section. Nice ride.
  6. I know the 1981 Brat was a mix of EA71 and EA81, but what was what? That, and would it be possible to convert a 1980 Brat to an 81 with the EA71/ 81 goodies? I know it's a dumb question but I'd like an 80 Brat due to DOB and all but know the 81's are the best of the Gen 1 years.
  7. That is one CLEAN looking turbo Brat. Congrats on the purchase and keep her lookin good.
  8. I have a line on a set of FSMs for 1986 (yes all 4) for a decent price, but it does NOT include the Brat (according to the cover) which is my concern. Granted I have an 86 Wagon also, but am more interested in the Brat than Wagon. Any idea on what year FSM I need for inclusion of the Brat? Also, what are the BIG differences (drivetrain wise) between the 2 (besides EA 81 and 82 motors)? Any help greatly appreciated. And, anyone has the engine section of a FSM for a 1986 Brat?
  9. Man, that is one sweet looking Sedan. Kinda makes me want to lift my 98 LOB instead of lowering it, although I do have my 86 Brat and GL Wagon for the trails and snow. Gotta get pics of it next to a stock OB for height comparison (yours is definitely bigger though)
  10. post a link so we can see the rest of the pics. Looks like a beautiful place and some good trail running.
  11. updated pics? Would like to see some full side profile shots. Lost track of the build progress, how's it goin?
  12. Looks absolutely awesome. Are you going to put some scorpion springs on there as well for an even larger lift?
  13. Looking at pics of your nice Brat, I'd have to say a dark shade of gray or black would be wicked. Gold rims would look nice if it is for the street only, but if your going to make it a offroader, stay away from gold and go with the back or gray.
  14. Cool!!! When I drop my Outback I'll remove them. Thanks:clap:
  15. There is a guy on sl-i.net doing the swap on his ride right now. Check out the "swaps and conversions" thread over there and hit him up as he's being a guinea pig for ya. I'm thinking about doing the same 6spd swap to my 98 Outback eventually (gotta get finances in control first). As for STi swap goodies, I have a friend here in NorCal who "says" he has a source for ALL the goodies at a very, very reasonable price but I personally haven't gotten anything off him yet, he just told me I should swap to an Sti drivetrain and asked if I knew anyone looking for anything related. PM when ready and willing to visit NorCal (unless I end up going back down the freeway from your area)
  16. That was the pic I was looking for! Very good comparison shot. As I stated earlier, I, personally, would order the Outback struts over the Forester struts due to the fact of both being Legacies (granted Subies are like legos but still) and knowing that everything would be copasetic with weight issues and all. On a side note, does anyone know if the Outback crossmember drop blocks are integrated into the crossmembers? (haven't been under the ride yet to check, sorry)
  17. I'd also say go with the Outback struts and if thats not enough, grab some scorpion springs for the Outback struts and you should be set. How high are you wanting to go? Just as high as the Foresters or higher? Here is a pic of a 96-99 Outback with the scorpion lift springs (2 inch) and one of stock height Outback I forgot where I saw it but there is a pic floating in Subie land of a regular Outback next to a lifted one and the difference is definitely noticeable. Also, for what it's worth and if memory serves me right, some people are taking LGT struts and springs and putting them on their Outbacks and dropping 2.5 inches alone through the strut/ spring swap. So, in "theory", going to LOB struts and springs should raise you at least 2 inches. Alright enough rambling enjoy and good luck. I know you're definitely not the first to do this so check other boards too like sl-i.net, subaruoutback.org and nasioc.com for more info. Also check the Offroad forum here on the USMB.
  18. the Foreign PnP off Sunrise had a couple gen2 wagons. What are you looking for, I have access to a private yard with plenty of goodies.
  19. no worries. N-joy yourself and be sure to have fun with the car.
  20. I've heard nothing but good things about changing the intakes on the 2.5 phase ones and have done so on my car (e bay $50 shipped to door) and it sure woke it up. Rpms used to slowly climb but with the intake MUCH better. Exhaust is a wonderful mod to do as well as going to a 2.25" pipe and hi-flow cat but I have yet to do it (saving for EL headers for more hp gains). Cams are a good one as well. Delta Cams regrinds run around $60 a piece and are great from what I've researched. If and when your h/gs go, you can do a nice port and polish job on them (wish I had when mine went). Get a set of hotter plugs do to the natural "run rich" from what I've heard. You can also get a light weight crank pulley to lighten the load on engine and gain some hp lost (just don't go under driven). Other than that nothin really more can be done. If you go with cams you gotta get a new/ tuned ECU (PP6 is highly recommended). Forgot, you can also change your pistons out for more compression but...... If you do the CAI be sure to undo the battery for 5-10 minutes and press on the brake pedal to drain any hidden charge to reset your ECU. Good luck with everything and welcome to the club
  21. I have one out of a 99 with w/b tape and cd for $60 plus shipping pm if interested.
  22. Yeah, only problem is dual ranges are hard to come by unless I want to buy another parts car (have 2 86s, both with the d/r, one for me Brat and one for another project, possibly my Gen1 Brat or my 81 Wagon). The double low with the 5spd isn't that big of an issue for me, I'm toying with the idea of a dual case setup down the road .
  23. Since I'm going to go with a t-case lift and all, I was just wondering about the weaknesses of the p/t single range 4wd 5spd from the later EA82s (the ones with the push button 4wd). Also, are the mounting points (crossmember) the same as the d/r or better yet, would they bolt into an 86 without modification? Granted having low range for the street is good from what I've heard, but I'm doing an EJ swap in the process of the t-case lift. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  24. OK. So I e-mailed Scott @ SJRLift.com and asked him about producing a lift for the EA71s. Here is his reply- I will be doing a EA71 , a EA81 conversion would be a great Idea, a ea82 conversion would be awesome , If I could get 4 buyers I would do it sooner Scott Unfortunately my funds are tapped out at the moment so I cannot be one of the 4:mad: . I'm hoping if he gets enough interest we'll be seeing a t-case lift for the EA71s in the future (what I REALLY want), either that or a larger (6 inch) instead of just a 4 inch.
  25. IF someone decides to produce a lift kit for the Gen 1s, I'll DEFINITELY purchase one for the 78 Brat and 79 Wagon I have access to. I'd love to have a lifted Gen 1 & 2 Brat and Gens 1, 2, and 3 Wagons. Hopefully someone will make a knarly Gen 1 lift (6 inch plus w/ t-case) because in my opinion it looks better than the Gen 2 jacked up (that and I don't want to redo the 85:) ). That and I dont have access to alot of tools/ space to create my own.
