  1. Seems I cannot find any driveshafts from a manual so......... what about using one from the automatics???? Will it bolt up to the 5 spped or will I need to modify it???? Also, what about using my stock ea81 d/r 4speed driveshaft??
  2. No, I will do that later when I have more cash.
  3. I am going to go about lifting my 83 GL Wagon atleast 6 inches but no more than 8. I'm wondering what mods besides the steering shaft lengthening I have to do to my steering. Will just lengthening the shaft work?
  4. OK. Sorry, I just want to know if I will have to modify the length or anything.
  5. Alright. My d/r 4 speed is down so I figure I'd replace it with a d/r 5 speed. I cannot find the driveshafts for the d/r 5 speed but found some for a f/t 5 speed. Will this work as well for my 83 Wagon? I know the center support will need to be mounted up and all, but otherwise is it the same length and will everything bolt up? I have not been out to the yard to check because it is a Lonnggg drive to get there for nothing.
  6. Does this include the d/r 5 speeds?
  7. Alright. I've tried the forum searches and everything and cannot find any info. I've heard that you can swap the rear diff on the EA series cars to the front. What does this entail:confused: ??? I'd sure like to have a front LSD w/o spending bookoo bucks on it so maybe I'll just put another rear diff in the front. I'm going to be lifting my EA81 wagon atleast 4 inches to start with so............ Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. If I can get my soob taken care of by then and the weekend off, I'd be happy to join in the fun, I can visit w/ the fam too:clap:
  9. I read alot of threads in this section and some people mention video's they made/ have and I was wondering how to get copies. Alot of the older posts web addresses are defunct for the stuff they used to contain (video's, pics, etc.) I would really REALLY like to get some video's of Subes In Action (particularly the Rubicon Adventure) and other assorted videos. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, what happened to the majority of the pics that used to be in the treads???? Alot of the older threads say pics included, but none are there. It would be nice to have the ability to see some of these pics everyone was talking about. (For example in the FAQs section under make your own lift w/ pics included.....NO PICS!!!!!!)
  10. I just bought a stock 83 gl Wagon with the D/R 4speed. Trying to shift into third does not work except for once in a blue moon at high (4500+) rpms. I am mechanically stupid:clap: and have not checked anything yet but any ideas:confused: ??? I know 2nd and 4th are WAY down in stick location but when I try for third all I get is a grinding sound (like trying to start a car when it's running) when I release the clutch. I'm told possibly fluid level, but it checked ok and as for linkages.....well I haven't jacked the car up yet. Any ideas or imput would be greatly appeciated.
  11. I'm more intersted in making this car handle better and taking it from there. I was planning on an EJ w/ ATLEAST 1 turbo (but twins are preffered:grin: ). My main concern would be keeping it from plowing through corners (hense the canyon carver theme). ULTIMATE SLEEPER (minus the Justy that runs 12.60:headbang: ) that will keep up with a canyon carver:brow: .

I had a Yellow Top Optima in my truck w/ an 1800w stereo. Accidentally left the keys in the "on" position and the stereo going. Lasted about one hour. My friend did the same in his truck only in "accesories" w/ the volume down and maybe an 800w stereo, lasted 6 hours before he realized and started the truck. Mine, I had to get jumped and it KILLED my Yellow Top. Now I have a Blue top, but I haven't tried that "test" again as it is expensive to replace Optimas (w/o your receipt that is). I'd like to run dual batteries as well once I get my Wagon going and get all my lights and then a winch when I have the $$$.
  13. Yeah sorry I got on a brain fart. It's an 85 1600cc 2wd. If for some reason I buy it off my friend I'd be converting it to 4wd. But I was just wondering because he says they are unique to the Hatch and hard to find.
  14. What is the difference between the Hatch struts and Wagon/ Brat and Sedan struts??? Is there any interchanging between and or retrofitting???
  15. I do agree and was going to do it in stages, 1st being the EJ and 5speed swap ( I HATE automatics). Second a 6-point roll bar. Then do the suspension and AWD swap later on as time and $$$ allow. I can use an AWD tranny and just not connect the rear output to anything right (sorry it's super early this morning and I'm on s-l-o-w still)
  16. I saw that Brat too but now I cannot find that web site:confused: . Can anyone help me find it??? That is basically what I want to do this sedan:brow:
  17. Thats what the EJ20T is for, and BTW, it wont be stock for long (engine that is)
  18. Anyone??? I just want to make this thing keep up with a stock Impreza WRX STI through the corners and have fun with it. I realized I said 4WD, but I ment AWD:banghead: Anyone with ANY input would be greatly appreciated.
  19. I have a line on an 83 Coupe and would love to turn it into a canyon carver. Does anyone know where/ how I can lower this so it sits better and any ways to improve the handling (corner carving) ability:confused: . Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be converting it to AWD so that should help it some, but not enough for me.
  20. No, I live in Jackson. As for the struts, I'll pull them next weekend and make me an offer. They will be coming off of a Brat. Just found out my friend ALSO has a 85 Hatch 2wd auto in Stockton he needs to get rid of, only down sides being the speedo got oiled up and there are NO shox. But as for myself, I'll be picking up the Wagon instead of the Brat for now and possibly the 83 2door 2wd auto if I can find a way to convert it into an Impreza style canyon carver and convert to AWD w/a EJ20T & 5speed :headbang:
  21. I have a line on a dirt cheap 84 2 door sedan and I was thinking of converting it over to an Impreza STI style canyon carver. What suspension/ underpinnings parts interchange with the ea81 style body besides the ea82 crossmember? I would like to lower it and put in an EJ20T and 5 speed and keep it four wheel drive. Is this possible without spending an arm and a leg in custom fabrication work? If not, does anyone know where to get a lowering kit for an ea81, not more than 2 inches? Either that or any ideas to make it handle better??
  22. I'm 44 miles SE of Sac off Hwy 16. He is leaving the country next month for a while so let me know what you need ASAP and I'll ask him.
  23. UPDATE- Well I went and talked to the gentleman today about his Subies and he's gonna make me a list of ALL the Subie stuff he's willin' to let go of. I know he's got one Brat he's parting out (got rearended by an RV ) a 78 and 79 Brat, one locked up 84? Brat, and an 86 w/ shell besides the 85 I might get as well as an 84 Wagon. He has more wagons and an 84?GL and engines and trannies as well as misc. other goodies (including a Turbo Wagon and other Turbo blocks:brow: ). Also, where can I find patch panels for the 85 Brat for the passenger rear quarter behind the wheelwell opening? I cannot figure out how to post pictures w/o them already being on a web page and they are not, nor will be due to the fact that I don't have nor want one. Soon, people, soon I will have my projects and get them DONE:headbang: Subieman- No, I'm up in them thar hills, not valleys, SE of SacTown
  24. I will have to ask the gentleman first for his permission, and if possible grab pics of all his soobs (he's got a few). As for location.... good ol NorCal. By the way, I've only seen as big as a 4/3 lift for the EA81. Does anyone actually make a 6" for the 81 or am I into custom territory w/o realizing it? If so, how hard is it REALLY??? I'd prefer all suspension or 2" body lift MAX.

Sorry, I'm a noob here and to Subarus, but I was wondering about the BEST year of all the Brats. I have access to six (yes 6) Brats of various years and conditions and other body styles as well. My plans are an EJ swap, 6 inch Lift and playing in the snow. I'd eventually like to do a bigger (8 inch) lift and put the 720 'case under it, but that is when I have more $$$$. What things should I look at when picking (besides having a manual tranny) out one besides rust? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Also, where do I find replacement parts for the suspension/ drivetrain besides a junkyard? And last, has anyone ever lowered or know where to get a kit to lower an 80's/ early 90's Sube?
