Subaru ecu's don't have any sort of information regarding tire size. They receive a speed signal from the instrument cluster, the extent of change in the tune, depending on ecu, would be in the gear determination tables if you were using boost by gear compensation. -

Almost everything usdm 02 (jdm 01) or newer can be readily tuned via open source software. The 02+ usdm turbo applications have the option to be tune with a Cobb AccessPort, but that adds more cost to the equation. As far tire size, that has no bearing on the subaru ecu. As long as it gets a speed signal its happy. -

Only true for the USDM engines. There are several JDM swaps available that fit this bill. -
This is the file photo for the caliper bracket for the turbo legacy. I don't know that I'll measure the bracket when I get home today because of the snow/cold. Depends on what the wind is doing then. The slide pin looks to be swappable between holes, which would explain why they list them for either side on the legacy. I'm really hoping this turns out to work, I'd love to convert my other ea81 car to 5 lug just for the tire choices, and front ebrake would make for less custom work.

The 3at and 4sp ea81 driveshafts are indeed the same length. But they're also made with serviceable u-joints, only ea82 and newer platforms have staked u-joints. In a few of my posts I have given links to aftermarket inner and outer cv's that will fit the 22 spline ea81 axle shafts to allow a DIY 25 spline ej axle for a 5 lug swapped ea81. As well as a link to a ball joint reaming tool that has the correct taper for ej/xt6 ball joints that will eliminate the need for xt6 control arms.

The 3at in my turbo hardtop works perfectly, when it wants to. Ran great other than atrocious fuel mileage when I bought the car. But when I parked it for about 2 weeks to 5 lug swap the car it hasn't wanted to shift on its own since unless the temperature has been about 75 degrees. It would honestly have already died if I hadn't parked the car again for winter. It's not a transmission I would want to live with in a daily driver. I guess the 4eat has spoiled me in that respect. -
EA81 and D/R 5spd to EJ22 and RX F/T 4WD

90-94 legacy 5mt's will be 4.11 final drive and have the stubs in the rear diff. That will be a direct bolt in and allow you to use stock rear axles. -
Interesting, the dealer I order through hasn't received everything to ship to me. So we'll see what happens in the next few I suppose.

How recently? I ordered one about 6 months ago and received it no problem. I put in another order a couple days ago, the only thing on my order that was flagged as backorder was the rear pitch stop bushing. Maybe you just hit it at the wrong time.

It can be done. But it requires splitting two transmissions. The 23 spline stub has to come from an ea82 5mt transmission as well, ea81 stubs aren't compatible. What car is getting the swap? If it's an ea82 body you can use ea82 turbo axles because they are 25 spline. -
It's actually the ea82 oil pump that can no longer be purchased. I just bought an ea81 oil pump from subaru along with the o-rings and gasket. Bottom line here RAD, if you want to coax more than about 100-110hp out of a non turbo ea81 then you're going to need deep pockets. It will not be cheap and it will not be easy. You need to accept the ea81 for what it is and stop trying to make it what it isn't. It's a fools errand. The people who are telling you this are some of the people who pioneered the "high output ea81". If you aren't happy with your brat having 85-90hp from the basic bolt ons then you're looking at a. full rebuild and lots of cash thrown into a 30 year old 4 cylinder to get another 10-15hp.

Something you might be able to help me with if you don't mind. I've been looking for as many options as I can for mounting the ej trans in an ea81 body, I've found a few ways that I like. How do you have your mount set up?

Good deal. I ordered a few speedo cables after I found they were still available from the dealer lol. I intend on keeping my ea81 cars on the road for as long as humanly possible, I figure spares aren't a bad thing to have.

Legality aside it's pretty easy on the ea81 cluster. Pull the mileage unit out, put the end of the shaft in a drill chuck and roll away.

They may have made the harness more universal in those years, 80-84 all had little differences in wiring.

Some of the carb models had an ecu, it used solenoids and witchcraft to control the mixture of the carb.
