Damn... There aren't really any cheap ones in your area on craigslist... $1200, manual, claims 70k on engine... http://bellingham.craigslist.org/car/354051726.html Read this one, you don't want it, but this guy has read too many datsun boards. http://bellingham.craigslist.org/car/363952064.html

Welcome. And good luck with the new car. If you are wanting to lift that wagon. Check out the "sticky's" in the Off-Road Forum. All you need to know is in them.

This isn't the place for a question of this nature. But if you will direct your attention to the USRM link at the top right of your browser, there is a great write-up availible in there. Also Look in the Retrofitting Forum and search through other people's adventures.

Not a muffler he does. The only "cure" for the boxer sound is equal length header... But why would you want to change it? Rare...

you've gott put the convertor on before putting the motor in, just like any other car. Look at the passenger's side top of the motor, where the bell housing bolts up. There should be a rubber plug or an open hole of significant size. Use that hole to put in the tc bolts one at a time, you'll of course have to rotate the engine to do this.

What heads on an EA82 non-turbo?

Ok, the jump to that makes sense now. -

I would have checked the radiator and cap, thermostat and other less indepth places before yanking the heads. -
If you really want to make the looks pop out at people get yourself a set of xt6 rear hub/brake and use ej front hub/brake/strut from a donor car. You'll have to do a rear ebrake mod, but thats covered in the USRM. You'll have 5 lug wheel choice and a damned good selection of strut/ spring options and better handling to boot.

That anything like a glass stretcher?

Please god don't force the tranny together... You don't have the torque convertor seated correctly. You must put it on first, make sure its fully seated. From what I hear the last 1/4-1/2 inch is the most difficult to get correct.

Ea81 and ea82 shift assemblies don't interchange. The worst you'll have to do to address this issue is drill a hole in the floor and bolt the back of the stabilizer to it. -

Casting numbers will be different because the heads are different. As far a performance heads, negative. You can get reground cams through delta. Thats about the exent of it, other than milling them slightly. Some say you can't take much off the heads or stuff won't bolt back up. I've had ej22 heads shaved .040 and everything worked. This will raise the compression ratio some. And help with performance, add some cams, open up the intake and exhaust some. -
The code for the "cat" on the 2.5 is probably the primary o2 sensor, just FYI. They generally throw a catylist below threshold code when the primary need to be changed.

For every square cm of yellow expect about 5-8 hp gains to the driveshaft carrier bearing... Finding a way to harness this new power has elluded us for some time... i've heard new muffler bearings, flux capasitor, and the hickeymaflacher allong with the occasional flushing of the blinker fluid is the first step of unleashing the fury of the yellowness

If you really wanna do a motor... Take your spfi pistons, put them in the ea81, and spfi swap it. If you get brave get a reground cam as well. The ea81 is the kind of motor you can kick in the face for years and still have it smiling and asking for more. -

The ea82 uses a different mounting setup either way. Best way to tell if you need the crossmember is to physically look at them. -

GL-10 Turbo sedan or wagon or coupe, RX sedan or coupe, XT Turbo. -
Your best bet in all honesty is to find a donor car, that way you will have everything you need at your disposal. Don't fool around with over priced motors and jdm wiring. There is very little information about jdm wiring at large. Find a wrecked legacy either for sale as parts of in a junk yard. For the $8400 price tag on that link, do you even realize what you could do with that kind of change... Scenario 1. Buy the 92 turbo legacy in the classified, have it shipped to your door. Fully rebuild the engine, have one of our freindly neighborhood wire conversionists do the wire stripping. Or get a standalone ecu, and injectors, big mofo turbo.... Scenario 2. Buy an n/a ej22 car cheap either wrecked or rusted badly. Rebuild the motor, see above... Those jdm motor sights focus on two kinds of people. The ones who just want jdm bling factor at any cost. And the ones who don't know any better.

Ea82t cars are availible from 85-90, or 91 I forget exactly, but I know there are a few ea82t loyales. Generally 89 up would be the best. You have better heads, gen2 or gen 3 heads usually, and they have a hot wire maf instead of the early flapper door style. You could probably look to get $500 from your car, if it were around here, your location value will differ. -
The wiring is the most crucial part of an swap, with out it the engine is virtually useless unless somebody plans on making a full stand alone management system.

Right, in japan, and a lot of other areas of the world, the model year for the new body style release is a year before us. They got the ea81/MY series body in 79, ea82/L series body in 84, legacy/liberty gen1 in 89 gen 2 94 and so on...

For the ej swap you can plumb in a sendor where you see fit. Turboing the spfi will not be the best route for power, the computer won't compensate for the boost, and it will react finicky. Keep posting then you will loose the new user title. -
Gotta love something that tries to do a direct translation from Japanese... Sweet looking car, maybe one of these days....
