85 Brat Restoration Project
86BRATMAN replied to VABrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not sure where Round Hill is exactly, what is it near? I do know of a good junk yard near Lebanon, VA that has some old gen stuff in it. I've also got a bunch of stuff here from various cars you might be able to use. If you want just send me a pm whenever you come across something you need or want for it. I'll see what I can do. -

Yeah, I've got some extras, I forgot about this thread. I'm sorry, how many do you need? -

What part of VA are you in. I have got some parts from an 86 that was killed by our winters and previous owner's neglect. -
My friend has an 05 WRX putting about 280 to the ground, IIRC. He's got a VF-34 turbo, 560cc injectors, STi intercooler, 3" TBE no cats, flex uppipe no cat, and an off the shelf Cobb stage2 tune. Spinning the tires he ran a 12.8 @ 109mph at Bristol Dragway in TN.

Not all superchargers mount in place of the intake manifold...

That settles it. WRX scoop it is... Very nice my friend. Very nice indeed.

You can use the "antifreeze treatment" from subaru. There is good info on here about it as well. The ej25 will at some point in its life have a head gasket issue with the originals. There is a newer part number that is supposed to be a fix for the old head gaasket problems. Just a new designed gasket. I think WJM posted the part number a week or so ago.

If you've got some mechanical ability and a day or so to work on it. I'd just do the headgaskets, front seals(cams/crank/oil pump), timing belt and water pump. This will have the car set for some time to come. Or weigh the cost of an ej22, pretty much any year from 90-96 will be a drop in swap(95-96 autos will have egr, I didn't notice if you had a manual or auto). But first see what you can get them to do for you.

Well with the world of aftermarket flywheels, a good rule of thumb is to keep good drivability not to go below 12-14lbs of flywheel. You'll never get the stock one that light reliably. So however much your shop will take off while keeping it in spec will be good. Lighter flywheels usually reduce usable torque.

Cheapest Catalytic Converter Solution

The o2 is before the car. And gutting it would only cause a CEL on obd2 cars. It will just pollute half as much as a old small block from the pre-cat era without it... -
Yeah, You can swap the sti parts over. But for the power you want you'd be better off getting a wrx to begin with. Then buy a vf34, STi topmount, upgraded injectors, and getting some engine management.

My wife got a good laugh out of that, Because she can relate to how mine affects me, lol.

I read the same thing. I think WJM is working on making it work though. Haven't seen an update lately.

It's been a while... I couldn't remember, lol -
I think you could agree that the spfi swap even without a cam would give better power up top that a carb.

Modifying the EA81 pedal box to accept EJ Clutch Cable
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
You will have to trim the ea81 speedo cable a bit because it doesn't go all the way into the threads. -
Thinking of one of my ej22 throttle bodies in my storage. There is a screw on the top of them. On some cars I've dealt with in the past yo could turn this and raise the idle up some without ever having to touch the IAC. I'll try to remember to take a picture for reference tomorrow. Its late here, lol

I did that with one of my Integra's a few years back. But mom wouldn't hear of it.
