FRANKENSTEIN EJ motor time... w/Compression ratio calc enclosed.
86BRATMAN replied to s'ko's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
95 EJ22 heads have roller rockers already. Is there a difference between the ej18's rockers that make them better? -

The Eibach's were probably also for the gc impreza. The front impreza strut and spring will work great, the rear springs for the 3rd gen legacy(00-04) are just about the perfect size for the rear.

I'm thinking we need a sound clip to go along with the badassness

4wd shift linkage and tranny problems
86BRATMAN replied to crazy D's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yep, in my younger days I wasn't as careful when I popped it in and out of 4wd. If the wheels are turned it can, and usually does cause them to be a pain to get disengaged. If it gives you trouble, try what he said, loose gravel, or stop back up a bit, and make sure the wheels are straight. Also, what kind of speed are you running in 4lo when it pops out? -
I'd say go for it, it is a pretty big job, but nothing that can't be done in a weekend providing you do all your homework, and preparation first. Do a little reasearch in the retrofitting section. There are people on the board that make/ prep just about everything you'd need but the mechanical ability. ShawnW and noah88dl provide the wiring prep service. 88hatchmonster makes the adapter plates to bolt the motor to the ea series trans. SJR is offering reground ea82 flywheels to ej bolt pattern. Don't discount the 88 just yet. Check it out and see what shape it is in, and how everything else seems to be. The motor is the least of the worries on the east coast.

I always set my max bid pretty high, at least as high as I am willing to pay for what I'm bidding on. -
EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it

Some of the ea82t guys have had some custom clutches made. That might be a route of interest for you to check out. -
EJ22 Brat Swap, couple questions for those who have done it
86BRATMAN replied to 86BRATMAN's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Non of that stuff got in the way for me. I've had to abandon the Brat altogether because of substanially more rust than I thought I'd be dealing with. But I had the ej22 motor and trans mounted up in the bay for asome time. With full intake and all on it, and the washer tank wasn't a problem, nor the hill holder unit. The biggest issue, whih isn't hard to remidy, with fitment is the battery placement. You can either move the battery to the drivers side or flip the ej intake pipe upside down and run it to the drivers side of the bay, Like 88Hatchmonster did. -

Also, which Grand Cherokee engine is it ruinning. The older 5.2/318, 5.9/360, or the newer 4.7L?
-
The ea82 2wd 5mt has a final drive of 3.4** oppossed to the 4wd non turbo's 3.90. I've had my brat up to well past the 85 mark on the speedo, had a guy pacing me saying it was about 105. I've never had an ea82 so, no input there.

I think its the same style can I had on my 95 wagon... I just couldn't resist...

I will.... WTF???

A guy on one of my local forums has an 02-03 bug eye, mild upgrades, nothing real special. He's broken his transmission a confirmed 5 times over two years. I agree that driving has the most to do with the issues. As many times people are just plain careless. But I would rather warn accordingly than say nothing, because you never know what one's been through before you get it, unless its new.

IIRC the BAJA sits on the same springs as the outback. Using legacy struts with a set of lowering springs would take care of the job nicely. The outback has a higher spring perch than normal legacy. And slightly longer springs. Many people on the board have used either outback or forrester strut/spring combo's to raise impreza and legacy vehicles. SO the opposite should hold true. Good luck and post up some pics when you get it done.

So does anybody else want to smack the guy pulling him out of the mud?
-
He's probably given you one for a STD hatch, both of mine only have one wire coming off it. My 86 brat has two.
