Just out of curiosity, why do you think its not an 85?

My 90 Legacy I'm using for my ej conversion in my brat has got more rust underneath it than the brat does. I was thuroughly shocked when I got underneath there the first time. Some of the stuff I had to spray a couple times a day for days to get bolts loose. The brat stuff just came right on out like a good little boy:banana: . If the clutch isn't slipping now I wouldn't worry about it. But The pull out and uphill grade are the main places to be really careful not to make it strain too much

The auto 4wd will probably have air struts, I wouldn't go that route at all. The rims should be fine though. You'd have to do the 5 lug conversion, but th isn't really that difficult to do. Look in the USRM and the retro fitting forum for more on that. Also Loyale 2.7 Turbo here on the board is the one I know of who has put that motor in a loyale wagon. Also in the Classified's Vendor section there are a couple really good companies making lifts for the ea82 cars.

It shouldn't be a problem with the weight at all. You may also want to look into the ej22 conversion. But since you are getting the other xt6 you should have all you'd need minus a couple here and there.

Take two boxed end 12mm wrenches and a jack, and maybe a can of pb blaster or wd-40. The pb works better for me since I had to deal with rust under my donor legacy pretty heavily. As long as you are easy on the pull out it and on hills I wouldn't think it'll harm it much. If you've got a good clutch to begin with.

Yeah. At least one of our members has done it in the loyale body. Another has one in a 78-79 Brat. Biggest problem is the length difference and where to mount the radiator. But it has been done.

Do the driveshaft. The fuse is useless in a tow imo. Its better to spend a few minutes and make sure it won't hurt the trans. I think they are held on by 8 12mm bolts, 4 at the diff, and 4 at the carrier bearing. I've seen some subaru's pull some boats and the like. Just keep a good eye on your gauges and give it a couple good breaks to cool down on the trip.

you'll probably harm the other xt6 towing it on a dolley if you don't disconnect the driveshaft. Yours should be fine however

If it is made for an r160 diff it should work. some modification is needed to the non lsd diff and ring gear though iirc. If you could source a turbo leg 3.90 lsd rear diff you could just bolt it up into place

Well that is definately not an 87, 86 and 87 did not come with jump seats in the bed or the side steps. Its gotta be 84-85 range. And be aware one in this shape will bring up to 3 times kbb pricing. Make sure you check everywhere underneath as they are prone to rusting under there if not well taken care of. Good Luck. edit:: the heatrests are upside down. edit2:: I don't think its an 83 because the headlight bezels had chrome trim on them right around the lights.

The motor will stay in. It would probably be an under 1 hour job for somebody who has been around them a while. Longer if not. I'm not sure on the gasket price right off, they shouldn't be really expensive. You just have to remove the valve covers, change gaskets, and replace them. Good idea to do it right in the middle of an oil change. But it is not an immediate problem IMO.

10 second brat(brumby)!!!

Wouldn't that be nice. But I'm not looking forward to another ej swap in the near future. I'd be more likely to go and pick up the rotted out 84 turbo wagon from the junk yard and build it for the hatch, just for the heck of it. -

I will. It'll probably be a while before I really get into that one. I'm trying to concintrate on the ej swap for right now. And with the weather lately I've made a few good advances in that. After its up and running it's the t-leg's turn for some stuff. Then it'll be time for another dirty project. -

If I get to buy a Hatch from another board member here soon, wifey says too many cars in driveway. I must remove all parts from the two parts cars and get them gone before the taxes come in and she spends it all. I'm gonna have a go at building my spare ea81 out the ying yang just to see what it'll do -

If the intake and exhaust don't bolt up, I've got all that you'd need here from my Brat's old motor. -
Brumby conversion: EJ22, hybrid AWD center lock, SUCCESS!!!

If you find a good surge tank let me know. I'm not having any luck with it at all -
