Sounds like a worn bushing letting it skip around, I've had one do that on an ea81, and dad has had a few do the same on ea82 cars. We've just replaced them when they act like that

I'm not sure on forresters, but I'm about 95% they were 00 along with the entire legacy line. Any 2.5l Subaru made after 00 is a phase 2, and the only way you can tell is the cam set up. Look at the timing covers, two indentions is dohc and one is sohc. I'm not sure on legacy's but the impreza rs that has phase 2 motors, at least the first couple years did not use a maf sensor.

Yeah the mid 90's cars would most likely have the non interferance phase 1 2.2. the only thing with these is the torque bind issue in the transmission. But thats nothing major if you know what you need to correct it. The phase 1 ej25 is a dohc motor, and the phase 2 is a sohc motor, they've got most of the hg issues worked out, there have been a few to fail but nowhere even remotely close to phase 1's. The legacy got the phase 2 motor in the 00 model change, the impreza rs got it in 99.

EA81T powersteering setup...
86BRATMAN replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If I remember he's using an 81-82 solid lifter motor, so thats gonna be a no go on the power steering stuff on the block. -
Damn... yeah thats all I can think of... Damn

Where did you get it from?

As far as the intercooler goes, you can use any WRX or STi top mount ic. Depending on lift you may have to cut the mounting area for the spare tire though. I would also highly recommend getting a wrx or 91-94 turbo legacy exhaust manifold, up-pipe, and downpipe setup and making the motor a single turbo setup. The tt motors won't fit our lhd vehicles because of the brake booster and steering shaft. 4EAT= 4 speed Electronicly controled Automatic Transmission If you go with the auto 4.44's you shouldn't have a problem with on road gearing since they are stock in subie's. If you can find a 91-94 turbo legacy manual cheap for a donor you could use it's wiring and ecu to better control the turbo motor. and have a pretty strong transmission as well, gear ratios on these are 3.9 and some came with the lsd option. As far as lift kits go contact Scott In Bellingham, or look in the marketplace vendor area XT will be an ea82 also The fuel pump will need to be an external mpfi pump, like would be on that XT you speak of. As far as suspension and stuff, look into 5 lug swaps on here,

EA82 MPFI fuel pump, regulator removal (for EJ conversion)
86BRATMAN replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I was wondering about that thing too, I have looked up several on the net as I want to go new pump for reliability sake. Most sites don't have a specific pic of the mpfi ea82 pump, but all the ones I've seen have had the peice on the you are talking about. -
ive searched but cant find what im looking for.

They sell tapered reams at sears that would work right for this job. As I haven't done this yet to me brat, still sorting through the last stages of the ej swap. This is next on the list however. -
Where is 300 below located? If you find anybody in that 300 mile range, with decent pricing, let me know please

I was speaking of this, not putting xt6 tophats on ea81 struts, that makes no sense at all... But you can out ea81 top hats on xt6 struts without much problem. And that is a custom axle rguyver made by shortening the stock xt6 unit, something like this would have to be done for a stock hieght vehicle -
Wheels for a cavilier will fit, they are 5x100. Not sure on the vw, but anything is possible, aftermarket wheels generally have a hub ring that comes with them to fit a specific vehicle, and i've nver had problems not using them. Only thing you need to be careful of is backspacing, the 17's i had on the 98 sedan were made for cavi and rubbed the rear fenders when I hit bumps.

This should work out good for you then, may have to modify it slightly. Also when you take the maf off the box if yours has a metal piece that curves into the maf hole try to use it with the filter if at all possible asa that helps direct air over the maf filiment and will give more accurate readings.
-
Ok, I've been around a few cars that will do this if there is air bubbles in the coolant system. May want to bleed it for a few minutes and see if that helps.

Thats gotta be one of the coolest looking 4 eye's i've seen with the cyclopse, I like the big badge better with that install

My 90 LS wagon has 4.11 final drive, and so did my 95 Wagon, The only awd n/a ej 5psd to have a 3.90 were the impreza w/ej18's Look at the diff tag on each of them before you get more than you need. And also having worked at a few different parts stores abck in the day, ALL 90-99 Legacy's use the same front axles
-
If thats anything like the one I bought for my 95 Legacy, you'll need another rubber or sylicone coupler and the maf adapter. And may have to cut some off the end where the maf connects. Mine was really designed for the maf-less 2.5RS cars, but it worked without too much extra effort. Also, This is just a short ram intake, the cold air intake goes down into the fender well.
