I could tell you how many miles were on my white brat when I first got to drive it when I was 9. -

The really funny part about this picture is that one of the tires on my brat right now is the exact same tread pattern -

Agreed, between my dad and I we've had almost twenty different ea81 4wd's, not to mention his 7 ea82 cars, and we've always had 185-70-13's for our spares. In fact i couldn't remember what the stock donut tire looked like until i got the std hatch. -
Assuming the general loss for a fwd vehicle i'd say around the 150-155 hp range at the flywheel Could be different on a subie tho, never seen or heard of one on a dyno

EA81 Engine Compartment Identification Help
86BRATMAN replied to subie_newbie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not going to tell you anything about your questions at, GD covered that already. The reason the pics didn't show up in the first post is the format in which the link is writen. To do the link the easiest way in photobucket; 1. Find picture you want to post link for 2. Look at the three lines below said picture, the bottom one will be for the img attachment, simply click on that line somewhere. It automatically saves this line to clipboard 3. Come back here and do a "right click" "paste" where you want the picture to be -
Yes its a newer gen, pretty much everythin from the dawn of the ej series motor is a newer gen... Valve cover gaskets are easy, if I recall there are three 10mm bolts holding each one on. Auto seat belts are dumb, do a search for "auto seat belt conversion" It is probably a fuse, or the door switch not working right, does you interior light still work when you open the door? Some others may have more insight into this problem, but check out the little things and then its probably the motor

Replacing fuel pump 91 Loyale ea82, compatibility?

Also as far as I know the only mpfi ea82 car was the xt -
Everybody that has done this swap into an ea82 car has said you don't have to mess with the crossmember, its just the ea81 cars that you must moddify, oddly enough my motor had the round mounts and there were no locating nubs, nor were there on my extra square mounts. Got any pics of the mounts for comparison

Sad but true, it looks like one of our hatch's would fit between its wheelbase

Our local county fair use to have the tough truck competition, was always fun to watch. About seven years or so ago I was absolutely astounded to see of all things a completely stock ea81 gl hatch in it. After a few rounds and knocking out his grill, one headlight bezel, and jarring loose his hatch latch the guy one the competition. I found out afterward that he had swapped an ea81t with some upgrades into it. Thats probably the only memory worth sharing from my fair days hehe....

Brumby conversion: EJ22, hybrid AWD center lock, SUCCESS!!!
86BRATMAN replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yeah i'm using the 5spd awd from a 90 legacy, I've got my stock ea81 x-member and a good picture from rguyver when he put the wrx driveline in his brat. Unfortunately I don't have access to a tig, the shop i work at have only migs, and a lot of extra angle iron and flat bar stock and the like:banana: ... As far as my thread goes i haven't been able to do squat to the actual vehicle in about a month, did get the wiring done though. Stupid winter time, why oh why do I always pick this time of year to do anything involving outside and cars -

The swap you are doing is almost exactly what I'm working on, with the exception you are able to work on yours lol, and mine isn't lifted. I'm just trying to look into ever option I can for the mounting of the transmission without much modifying to my trans tunnel. I know i'll end up having to get the bfh out on a few spots none the less. I can get ea82 trans mounts pretty cheap from a friend of mine with connections, since the ej's i have are a little worn out. -
IMHO, the only real place to worry about rust is in the frame itself, especially where the rear suspension mounts up. And if you are a decent fabricator that isn't a really scary place either.

Was ac an option for 80' Brat?
86BRATMAN replied to kingwill's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
if you are worried about the ozone layer, buy an electric car -
no you just need to get the interior console from an ea82 car with d/r trans and bolt it into the ea81 car, looks stock and very clean, check in the photo section a few people have done it and uploaded pics

the hose clamp idea works great, i've used it many times over without any problems, much better than zip ties IMO -
pretty much any 6 lug chevy, toyota, mazda, or nissan wheel will work with the right mods, as long as the are 6X5.5" pattern you are good an alternative to 75's sugestion would be to convert your hubs to six lug and have mor lugs holding it on, not a scary as it sounds, knock out two opposing studs just as you'd have to do with the his way, and mark the hub and drum assembly for the other four holes, drill them out and get some new studs and lugs to put into place

However, without haveing an A/C license i can tell you that if you do not want to keep it just take it off. It gets messy though, so have a towel that you don't care to expend with you. Cover the fittings where they bolt to the pump and remove the low pressure side and let it blow out as much as it will. Then remove the high side and compressor. Once those are gone you can remove the various lines and other things associated with the system, some of the fittings have big sizes and if you don't have them a hack saw works nicely. You can leave all the stuff under the dash as it will no longer be of any use. If you just want it gone find one in a junk yard and get the plastic duct that goes between the blower box and heater core box and swap them out. I insist on using a towel even if you don't think its compressed. Bought a car once with it on there but no belt and I was told it has been decharged. Get shot once in the face by that stuff and you won't want to do it again, I'm probably luck to still have good eyesight. -
i would agree execpt he mentioned his stock injectors were fried, the ej25's should go right in place, as far as i know all subaru mpfi injectors are interchangable

Lifted EA71 Pics Wanted
86BRATMAN replied to newsoobdude's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I've got a thread in the retrofitting forum, a lot of people have done this sort of thing, mostly to ea82 cars. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70148 I've been hindered by snow and otherwise cold weather, but w'ere getting a heat wave this weekend, lol, supposed to be back in the 30's and 40's should have some more done, hopefully. Oh check this one out.... http://members.optusnet.com.au/~kerrtw/gallery.html -
yes, only thing with any ea81 car you'll need to notch the motor mount hole in the engine crossmember about 1/4" towards the outside of the car to let the motor drop in
