when it comes to upgraded clutches its hard to go wrong with exedy, they have one of the best pedal feels i've ever experienced, have personally had two on honda vehicles but i've driven a wrx, and 99 leg gt with them. they are great value for the money, i'd like to know how it would feel with a cabled clutch because even the hydro's i've been around have been a little harder to push

I'm not too concerned with longevity myself, ej22's can be had from one junk yard near me for about 150-200 even if they take it out. My motor has around 218k on it when i took it out of the leg, and I should have the td04 and wrx tmic this weekend. I'm thinking about getting the x-member from an 83 turbowagon just for the use of my buddies stock manifold and uppipe, since he said i could have it. Just for precausion I would probably get bigger injectors, something like wrx stock or 300zx turbo's, before i'd throw it all together. And the rising rate reg, or FMU depending on who makes them, wouldn't be out of the question. And I can get the 100 octane gas from the airport, i think its going for around 3.50-4 a gallon these days. And I have never been a fan of nitrous, I have personally seen too many professionally tuned cars blow apart using it to ever consider going that route. Only one place i would use it, and that is on the ic.

if i can't get ahold of the t leg i'm gonna try to get a set of the pistons from it anyway, and ecu from somewhere, the friend you are speaking of, numbchux, could you get some details of his setup for me please,

unfortunately not yet, last time i spoke with them they didn't know what they wanted for it, and didn't know where the title was at, knowing how much they liked the car i didn't throw in my isntinct comment "like i really need that!" i'm hoping if i just happen to show up in a week or two with some cash they'll remember where they placed said title

i'll agree on lucas being junk, with the exception of one case i used it in a car that i was trading in (non subaru) because it does thinken oil, and it made my blue smoke trail go away when i pulled it into the car lot

Radius and camber modification...

any ideas on exactly how much this would extend the wheels out on an unlifted vehicle, i'm interested on matt's aproach to it as well without cutting the control arm, but he doesn't have nearly as much of a write up as you i'm also thinking that it could allow for the use of ea82t 25 spline axles with my ej swap -
well i got nothin better to do to it

the haynes would have everything you'd need unless you can get somebody on here to scan the fsm pages for you, i don't have a scanner or i'd post up some from my chilton's manual, just have fun with it, at least you are doing it to learn and not needing a motor rebuilt now, it'll be a good learning experiance since most all subie motors are assembled/disassembled in similar ways -
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70148 most of the progress is here, haven't done much else to it in a few weeks, except fighting the rear diff out of it last weekend, cold weather has hindered my efforts pretty bad, however i did spend the better part of 4 hours sorting out the ej wiring harness friday:dead:

proper procedure would be to remove the pistons first, its got two plugs on the front, one on each half, and two on the back, again on each half, once you take them out, i think they are a m14 allen head, rotate to tdc, remove the wrist pin circlip, its a c-clip that holds the wrist pin in the journal, and slide it out from the back side, you're do this on each of the cyl's then look for the bolts that hold the block together some are visible on the other shell, some are in the coolant areas near the cyl's probably didn't explain it well, been a long time since i did this for the very same reason... best best is to get a service manual, advance sells them for $15.95 and can usually get them in a day or two, it should have the full write up of the process since i'm sure i overlooked something -
have you actually checked priceing on powdercoating, most places shouldn't charge that much for a crank pulley, a place about 2 hours from me has done a few of my buddy's valve covers on some hondas for $80 each, another of my friends "claims" his dad to have a powdercoating setup, yet to be confirmed tho, i personally think the blue like on the valve covers of the ea81's would look quite good
-
i used, or should i say tried to use, the spray paint chrome junk before, looks good till either you spray some clear coat on it or wash it the first time, then it went to silver, however this could have been due to cheap paint, another option is the powdercoating route

for future reference, as i plan to swap a turbo'd ej motor of some sort into the brat, and the fact that a local yard has an ea81t wagon that they are about to crush will the up-pipe for a turbo ej fit with the ea81t engine x-member? if it will i'll probably go yank this one before its gone for good

only six speed is the sti, a pricey tranny to say the least, and since you have a top mount starter ea71 i'd say a d/r spd isn't too likely, you could always go with an ea81 swap, and then do 5spd, some mods are neccesitated but not out of the realistic range, then most asuredly you could do his mods to your motor

all the dual port ej's have the same exhaust manifolds, as long as you source a dual port engine you shouldn't have to worry about it, also weren't a lot of the ej22 auto's equiped with the egr system, i could almost swear the motor i got a few years back from a 90-91 auto had egr, but i could be wrong

if you want to sell the good one check with rdnkbrt, he was looking for one a while back and is on your end of the country

86 STD rear suspension (aka gd v. bratman)

i honestly have nothing against him, or doing things the correct way, i much prefer that over half assing any day, it comes as simply as this, i stated i had at the very least ten ea81 4wd hatches in a junk yard with parts at my disposal, it irritates the crap out of me when i state the obvious and it is still thrown up that it will be hard for me to find what i need, and as i stated also i am not sure at this point whether this car will be a part out or not, i am weighing the possibility of three options, putting together a 4wd hatch, putting together an ea81 5spd fwd hatch, or parting it out, actually getting a title with the car and my heart not wanting to see another one get scrapped makes me want to do something, anything with it i do understand the difference in gas tanks, and the stupidity of a lowered tank for offroad use, and would not under any circumstance do this unless under the influence of alcohol and in despiration to make my car move, as far as my mechanical ability, there are many testimates to my knowledge and technique in the honda world in my area, sorry i've been away from subaru's for the majority of the last 5 years, and i've probably gotten rusty i originally bought this car because it has two good 2wd axles in the front of it, and these are what i need for my ej swap, since the car was cheaper than two new axles i figured what the heck, get it out of my mechanics way and get some axles, i just happened to be in an irritated mood when he started posting or i would have probably not gotten flustered, but anyway, in one big run on sentence that is my posting style on any and all message boards, if you don't like it, don't read it, and don't judge me by my writing style, -

oh wow, you've got me by three years, hmmm thats extrodinary, and as far as spelling and grammar, i didn't realize you were a third grade teacher, or did i fail to notice in the by-laws of the usmb that puntuation, grammar, spelling, and capitalization would be graded at the end of each post, but as it stands i really don't care how i write what i write, it gets the job done, people understand what i'm saying, and i don't have to be a prick to do it, i never questioned your "knowledge" or what you had done, must be something about the air out there where you live, or the fact that you can't get your head out of your rump roast far enough to see that most people, in fact, do not care how hard another person thinks something will be, they already have a good idea of what it is going to take, some just like to make sure they know the amount of supplies needed to get it done, and will do it either way opionions are like *********************s, everybody has one, and they should keep it to themselves unless someone asks them to share it with them -
out here in the mountains i got in the upper 30's mpg with an 84 4spd d/r wagon, not driving like a granny, car had p/s and ac, kept in perfect tune, it is possible, just not probable
